NeverEnding
Hey everyone! I've been getting back into Malifaux recently with a few of my friends and I got the Sonnia box and played her for a few games but I don't find her play style interesting enough to continue playing and the other members of the Guild don't really interest me. That being said I decided to return to my roots and go back to my beloved Outcasts. My need for immediate gratification pushed me to buy the Misaki box as the Viks weren't in the store Q.Q and I looked at her cards and find her pretty interesting and I enjoy the movement shenanigans she can pull although it isn't quite on par with the Viks ability to throw whirlwinds from what I'm seeing. So what I would like to know is what kind of cool things can an Outcast Misaki pull that makes her unique? What kind of schemes/strategies should I use/avoid with her? Also what wave 1 and 2 models seem to work well with her? Good matchups? Bad matchups? I stopped playing Malifaux before Misaki went from merc to master so I've never seen her in this incarnation. Also I expect to be playing a lot of Rezzers and Neverborn of that helps at all. p.s McM's poison bomb scares me....do we have a way to deal with conditions like that? NeverEnding
Oh I should add I went ahead and picked up Yamakizo and both the 10T and Outcaste Wave 1 arsenal boxes. As soon as I can get my long lost lovers the Viktorias back I plan on running her with some Ronin to see how that works out, seems like fun! Thanks for any advice/tips/tricks in advanced! AverageBoss
I have only just started playing Outcast Misaki myself, although I do have some games under my belt with 10T Misaki. Last Blossom infiltration comes into play allowing her to take any four of Ototo, Thunder Archers, or Torokage. As Outcast, you also get cheaper access to Ronin, Convict Gunslingers, and really quite a bit of other stuff I am still learning. Misaki herself will almost always do well in Assassination games and is pretty good at many objective schemes due to her mobility and defense. Torokage are great objective runners, Ronin are better at killing and getting through armor. You do lose out on Misdirection going Outcasts, but can still take disguise which is nice. I am partial to the hard to kill upgrade, although it makes me want to take Shang or Malifaux Child to get use of the +healing flip. I also like the +1 wk/cg upgrade (21" of movement possible in one turn on Misaki). Anyways, that's they few things I have picked up.
NeverEnding
Oh my gosh can I even use Yama as outcast misaki? How do the Torokage preform normally? I'm not sure exactly what their kit leans towards ranged or melee or just harassment. Thank you for the info! I have to find that H2K upgrade that seems realllly helpful. Ryoken
You can use Yamaziko because she is a Last-Blossom model (note her Infiltration ability) but she cannot take the 10K Archers as they are not Last Blossom. They are awesome models, but if you play her pure Outcast, do not pick them up. Ronin synergize really well with Misaki, especially the Seppuku to get some extra SS. You can burn your pool, get your Risky Ventures late game for a few Assassination attempts, then activate and sac a Ronin to get your SS back for Damage Prevention. Torakage are worth their weight in SS. They can do a lot of dmg and kill some models when played right, but using them with Smoke & Shadows makes them hard core objective runners or flankers. In wave 2, Ama No Zako is both a 10k and Outcast Henchman. She is great for fighting gremlins or anything with the paralyzed condition. Another Beat Stick is Ototo. He is very awesome at just destroying things. For removing conditions, running Misaki as 10K will open up Monk of Low River and he can remove the conditions off your models. Since 10K Archers are out of your pool, using Freikorps Specialist or Convict Gunslingers will give you some solid range and damage, but getting Hans or the Freikorps Trapper will give you much more range, at the expense of some dmg.
NeverEnding
I don't want to ask how to counter play any specific masters I kind of like the danger of the unknown but how flexible would you guys consider the Misaki outcasts to be against other factions in general? What kind of matchups should she be avoiding fights and which should she be bullying? I plan on playing against 10T, Neverborn, and Rezzers this Tuesday so I will definitely be posting some kind of follow up maybe even some battle reports. AverageBoss
I was wrong on T Archers, but Oiran have Last Blossom, of course the Performers from wave 2 will likely be a better choice. Also, ya wave 2 rules hit tomorrow, that is going to change a whole lot of things and open up far more options. I don't have have enough experience with her to give you good and bad match-ups sadly. NeverEnding
So for Tuesday this is the list I'm considering at 40ss, sadly I don't have Ronin yet otherwise I'd take them Misaki -Stalking Bisento 2ss -Scramble 2ss -Survivalist 1ss Yamaziko 7ss -Scramble 2ss -Smoke & Shadows 1ss Shang 3ss Freikorps Specialist 8ss 2xTorakage 12ss Extra 2 in the cache
Kolath
So, how'd it work out for you? Personally I think 8ss is a bit too much for upgrades, especially at 40ss. Also, if you are running Torakage, I think Smoke & Shadow should be a must for the smoke bomb shennanigans. Also, keep in mind that Hans can see through the smoke bombs with his goggles ability, so you can block enemy LOS to you but still shoot at the enemy. Did you find Yamaziko to be good? I have a Misaki crew but never found her that appealing.
NeverEnding
It worked out well I won 8-2 and yes I agree 8ss on upgrades is a bit much but I dont have the model pool I'd like to have yet so I had to try to fill some space. And yeah Yama died fairly quickly but she played a pretty big role for me by charging after Misaki made it into combat with Seamus and using the braced yami to dmg the punk zombie and dead rider who came in to support him. Next turn Misaki killed both and did a lot of dmg to Seamus with the blasts from Thunder and a free attack from the stalk action. Leaving him at 1wd with 0 SS left in his pool. My next pick up will be a box of Oiran and the Viks once they're back in the store. Im avoiding metal models that I feel iffy about for now because I know they'll be updated. I love Hans new rules but I hate his model...hopefully the plastic will be better :/ Edited February 13, 2014 by NeverEnding
Tigerstyle
p.s McM's poison bomb scares me....do we have a way to deal with conditions like that? As an Outcast (well as anyone really since he's a Merc) you have Johan who can remove conditions with his Rebel Yell ability. Just need a 4+ of rams and you're golden. NeverEnding
Oh god now I have to find my old Johan model XD I dont like the new art for him and I like the paintjob I had on my old one. Weather permitting Ill be playing again later today (technically) and I may be using the beta avatar Misaki I'm actually pretty excited about her avatar. Ill be posting battle reports soon in the appropriate place of course
NeverEnding
Weather allowed me to get a game in! I'm reading through my notes and writing up the battle report now
parich
How did your most recent game go? I really like the idea of Misaki as Outcast but have no idea what combination of 10T/Outcast models work well in general (I know that actual selection depends on schemes, stats, etc.). Would love to hear how she's working for you!!
NeverEnding
I have yet to lose a game with Outcast Misaki! There have definitely been close calls but the combo between Torkage as smokescreen covers and assassins and Ronin as harass and board control has come through strongly every game for me. Misaki herself is enough of a threat to create a bubble around her to avoid a charge and the I cant help but rave about the Ronin/Kage combo. I haven't really been able to see Oto shine against the crews I play against most frequently (Dreamer, Lynch, Seamus) because of his mediocre WP I've had better luck with Yamakizo or Taelor. In my first game I had Yama charge Seamus thanks to Nimble and her positives against Masters she dealt a fair bit of dmg then used her braced action which ended up chunking a Dead Rider then Misaki was able to swan dive in and use thunder actions to just brutally murder everything she touched thanks to the blast damage. It can be very fun and interesting to play Misaki as outcast and opens up some cool tricks like a bit of a throw back to the old dreamer crew have all of the last blossoms smokescreen and disappear then pop out at the end of the turn on top of an oathkeeper Taelor or Oto because they rarely ever die... NeverEnding
Ah this is the battle report I had mentioned before (Its from the an older avatar beta so its kind of moot but still you may enjoy the read) http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/98820-misaki-vs-lynch/#entry700550
Grim
What Torikage/Ronin combo?
Grim
I'm asking a lot of questions because I play Outcast, I currently field Viks and Freikorps, and have a Ten Thunder box (minus Shang). It would be nice to have a third option, and I am trying to figure out how Misaki as Outcast fits in the scheme of things (pun intended). Thanks! NeverEnding
Ronin can push out of combats and allow the Kage to get their Works Best Alone positives and can team up with them to allow the negatives to SH. Both are also good objective claimers because the Kage can place smoke markers to split up the field or if need be just walk out of combat thanks to agile while Ronin cant be charged. I just finished up a game and had my girlfriend take notes so Ill be posting a battle report up shortly of Outcast Misaki vs TT Lynch

Druso
Misaki -Stalking Bisento 2ss -Survivalist 1ss Yamaziko 7ss -Smoke & Shadows 1ss Ototo 10ss Shang 3ss 2xFreikorps Trapper 12ss 2xTorakage 12ss 50SS, Caché=4 (a bit low..) The idea is to place the torakage disturbing the opponent deployment placing them 6" from Trappers with Smoke and Shadows. The trapper to their job shooting and holding until Misaki,Ototo and Yamaziko come.
NeverEnding
So I'm assuming that's two trappers and the only thing I would say without trying it is put smoke and shadows on oto maybe. Yama is good but she dies quickly typically she does her job first but the amount of squishy hurts.
Druso
Yes Neverending 2 trappers and you are right about Yamaziko so thanks for the advice.
Falconrider
So for Tuesday this is the list I'm considering at 40ss, sadly I don't have Ronin yet otherwise I'd take them Misaki -Stalking Bisento 2ss -Scramble 2ss -Survivalist 1ss Yamaziko 7ss -Scramble 2ss -Smoke & Shadows 1ss Shang 3ss Freikorps Specialist 8ss 2xTorakage 12ss Extra 2 in the cache Just for next time, Scramble and Stalking Bisento are both limited upgrades so you can only take one of them.
