Mako
Well, chronicles 8 is out, with a whole host of cool stuff in it, and a little thing I did about gencon. IT has photos of my Dead Justice crew, and a bunch of other entries I snapped while at the entry cabinets. But here's a couple of previews... And the chronicles are here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/content.php?235-Wyrd-Chronicles
fupersudge
Holy christ, I am jealous of your work. How long do you typically spend on a model paint wise?
Mako
Thanks fupersudge! Er... way too long I suspect is the answer! Honestly, it depends. These guys had several weeks each. Some I do all the ones I own in a week or less (minions that come in threes, for example). It varies a lot depending on the colours I'm using, the complexity, and how annoyed I get painting them *grin* Basically, I paint til I'm OK with it (however long that takes), then stop. It's the only way I've found to ever actually stop messing with models and call them finished!
fupersudge
Sounds like a lot of work. I envy you, I have yet to be able to put that kind of time into a model.
Mako
It's what I do, the painting is my favourite part, and I obsess over details usually. On the other hand, I envy anyone that's finished more than one crew!
fupersudge
I have finished quite a few crews, still don't have one of my own though. I actually don't have any models of my own for anything... Seriously your work is great. I will eventually go through all the pages of this, interested to see what else is in here! Lussuria
fupersudge: It's definitely worth it. I think reading this thread from start to finish was my first task after signing up to the forums. And that looks absolutely epic, Mako. I wish I could do stuff like this!! Linus Mcmold
I realized just this morning that Miss Treated has hair covering her face. That's a really great idea. I'll get to reading your article later in the afternoon. I love the look of your crew, but I'm repeating myself *grin*. Beautiful contrast on Dead J's skin, hair and clothes. Did you get any games with this crew? Edited October 2, 2013 by Linus Mcmold posting before finishing the post
Webmonkey
Rubbish!
Mako
Thanks folks! It was a lot of work, but I'm glad it came out nicely. Bit much work for the time I had, but such is life! They've never seen a gaming table Linus, they went to the painting cabinet then came home and stayed neatly packed away... Luss, you totally can, you just have to work at it steadily and it all comes together in the end!
Mako
Wow, quiet in here again... I really should do more stuff! I'm doing some freehand on raspy of course, and hopefully in November/December I'll be able to get time to work on the rest of the crew. I have to love how easily the plastics go together, I basically have the whole crew assembled and it took less time than prepping one coryphee! Guardian
Thats what you get when writing articles for chronicles ;P But, trust me, its worth it!
Mako
It's not actually the chronicles that's absorbing all my time lately, for once! It's my stupid science job...
Demonn Agram
don't you just hate when real life interferres with important stuff like minis!
Mako
Yeah, life is very annoying when it insists on being dealt with before I can do proper stuff! Here's my freehand progress at any rate (too dark, but oh well, that's what repainting the midtones is for!):
Mako
Huh. Seems I never actually posted up the finished skirt freehand. That was careless...
Lussuria
Wow that looks incredible. I have to admit when you put up your 'rough line in' I was thinking 'How on earth is that going to turn out??' but this looks so effective. Eeep! I need to re-shade my swan and post it up too!! *grin*
Mako
You totally do, Luss! It looked awesome last time I saw it... I should really wrap that little challenge up officially at some point I guess *wink*
Viruk
Yesterday I was leafing through the latest issue of Wyrd Chronicles and stopped at your article and noticed a funny thing. The DM holding a body ripped in half. In the other hand he's holding an arm that was torn off. Yeah, an arm... Here's what I thought it was when I painted mine: I thought it made him look crazy the way he's pulling at his... beard.
Death Marsal D
Just another face in a sea people that is going to say that is stuff is amazing.
SpiralngCadavr
I thought it made him look crazy the way he's pulling at his... beard.Yeah, the illustration 100% looks like a beard, though I did realize it once I looked at the model. Mako
I got most of the way through painting the arm thinking it was a foot and leg! Ahh, mystery lumps of metal. How I won't miss you :-P And thanks, Death Marshal D! Soon, I hope to actually have something new to put up, the endless tide of things to deal with is starting to slow down a little so I'll be able to put brush to models. Maybe some gamin. Linus Mcmold
@Viruk&Mako: This conversation and the choice of miniatures in your avatar/signature made me think about how I visualize you two in person depending on the foremntioned choice (bearded death marshal & mr. Graves). I would have never thought that the death marshal was nibbling on an arm, but it was Viruks Dead Justice set I've first seen since my lurking beginnings on this sub-forum. Viruk
I'm actually closer in appearance, at least when it comes to hairstyle, to Mr Graves though I do have a beard
