Osaka, Malifaux, and possibly Doom.

Recommended Posts

I'm not certain that they sell Malifaux, but my first starting point would be in the Nihonbashi area of Osaka.

Ebisucho (恵美須町駅) station was the subway station I usually got off at when I wanted to cruise that area, but you can also get off at Nihonbashi station and walk between the two stations.

There are several Yellow Submarine stores in the area, as well as many other hobby/gaming/manga/anime places. I know Yellow Submarine carried some Games Workshop stuff when I was there (back in '03-'04) so they would be my best guess for other gaming supplies.

I require the location of a store, any store, in Osaka, Japan that sells Malifaux.

Tough luck. Games Workshop is practically the only miniature game on the market and even that isn't widely known. I know there are a couple of stores in Osaka carrying Warhammer, but I highly doubt they offer anything else.

The best Malifaux store in Japan I've heard of is in Beppu on Kyushu. Too far to go for weekend of gaming, even from Osaka (I'm in Tokyo), but they have a solid online store and decent prices, so I order from them whenever I can.

If you want to find Japanese gaming groups or gaming partners, I suggest looking for blogs and community centers. The community is out there, just with little to no commercial presence. The chance they play Malifaux is, unfortunately, very low.

Jonas,

there is an online store (no B&M store yet) based in Osaka that sells Malifaux. I have had some e-mail contact with the owner, so I know there is a group playing over there as well (mainly or all Japanese players I believe). The owner doesn't really seem to speak much English, and the prices are 15-20% percent higher than Ring-Tail, and it also holds less inventory than Ring-Tail. The store HP is:

Yellow Submarine doesn't sell any Malifaux, nor does the other "major" miniature store in Osaka, Iconoclasm (http://www.hobbymetal-iconoclasm.com/).

Ring-Tail usually holds more stock and has better prices, but it's far from Osaka. If you order on time, he can deliver to Osaka on a set date and time of your choice though, so it might be worth considering.

As for gaming options, there is a group in Saitama around Tokyo, the before mentioned group in Osaka, and there are two small groups down here around Fukuoka City where I'm currently living.

If you need any help with Malifaux in Japan, feel free to PM me anytime - I've got contacts in all the above mentioned groups/stores, and could get you some e-mail addresses if you need them.

Cheers,

Vlad

Should you ever come down to Kyushu, PM me and I'll see to arrange a game or two. Nice to see somebody else from Japan on the forums!

Thanks! :) I'm not sure if that will happen anytime soon, but perhaps when I can take some vacations.

The group in Saitama you mention interests me greatly though. Do you have any links or contacts? The only gaming store (carrying Malifaux) in Tokyo area I found is in Tachikawa and is both very far and a bit too expensive for me. :(

I'm still waiting on the reply from the Saitama guys, but there is a guy in Tokyo who says they are playing almost every weekend since May in Akihabara. He says they don't have any non-Japanese Malifaux players so far, but some PP players are non-Japanese so communication shouldn't be a big issue. He gave me this link for more info:

http://kiramechimera.bbs.fc2.com/

It's a typical japanese-style posting board where they post the gaming dates and locations - so far they seem to play at the Yellow Submarine RPG Shop (http://www.yellowsubmarine.co.jp/shop/shop-059.htm). The last session was on June 5th from 13:00-19:00 - you might want to keep your eyes on that board for future dates. It's all in Japanese, so if your not confident in your Japanese you could ask any local friends, or me in case no ones around at the time, to translate you new posts.

My Japanese is perfectly fluent' date=' so that's no problem. :) Thanks for the info.[/quote']

Aah, that makes it even easier! If you have a mixi account, there is a community where the Akihabara group posts their session details as well:

http://mixi.jp/view_community.pl?id=42

There is also a small community dedicated to Malifaux:

Mixi is usually the best place to get any info about the hobby in Japan (both Malifaux and other game systems). Good luck!
