Tuesday Tussles at RIW Hobbies, Livonia, MI

Yeah, what they said.

We're pretty laid back and actively suppress anyone's desire to get overly competitive (We're tough about it, too: we just avoid playing a-holes).

There's no problem here, or at Pandy. Drama and politics can pop up anywhere, I suppose, and with a group as big as ours we've had disagreements, but they're pretty few and far between and quickly put behind us. Not many of the WM players have gravitated to Mali, but, like all gamers, some have shifted over because of Mali's appeal. Mostly just me and Maverickman and we're the guys that are quickest to only play casual games.

The group you're referring to does rent out the room one Saturday per month and it is theirs exclusively for that day, so there may have been some time they kicked out one of your friends, giving the whole place some bad reputation, but it has nothing to do with our Tuesday evening group.

Come on up if you're feeling super daring! We may even nibble and naw on your leg like a rabid Zombie Chihuahua. ;)

You'll even get a 20% discount on Malifaux items you buy during the session! And if you play Bowen (that's me!) I'll let you pick your opposing master! I'll only laugh at you a little during the game, but always if you flip the black joker on a damage flip.

;)

Dark Knight, If you are looking to learn Colette Nerdelemental is probably one of the best to ask. In truth though most of the Tuesday Night crew at RIW are really knowledgable about Malifaux. For me they have always been extreamly friendly and entertained a lot of questions (from me and the neighbor kid I brought with me a few times). I enjoyed playing with and against all of them. Definately miss the crew since moving to the Big Easy.

I cant speak for MAOW as a whole but I've met Paradox a few times, and he was always kosher (even during a tourney at Pandy). I would recommend giving the place a look for yourself.

Oh and I gotta say Pam is awesome, her customer service is outstanding. I travel a lot around the country and I have to say RIW is in the top three of stores I have visited.

Cool, the arcanists never really interested me but the combined awesomeness of all the models in that box set have changed my mind. My biggest problem is that I don't have the new book yet(I plan on getting colette and the book in a week or so). I need to find out what from the 1st book works/doesn't work with her.

On the other topic, I'm starting to understand things a little better. Between you, nerdelemental, and a 3rd gentleman I've been PM chatting with, I'm starting to see that it's only a few bad apples and not the whole bunch.

We're you the gremlin player I played the 1st round at the Pandy tourney?

So hard to keep IRL and forum handles straight.

I'd hope we can leave out names of people we have had challenging altercations with in the past and look forward to a better, more easy-going future. In this case, we should all simply get in the habit of cutting every deck, every game. There's an implication that by cutting you're saying "I don't trust you" which isn't true. It's just a step in the shuffle process.

That was also a rule imposed at Gencon and, dealing with behind-the-scenes discussions, I don't remember specific names being associated with that rule. It's just a smart rule at any tournament.

~omenbringer: miss you too, buddy! :vb_cheers Would love to be getting some games in again.

~regulars: I've got a game lined up with Maverickman this week and I'll be rolling something I've not played before. Either Leveticus or Zoraida. I'm leaning toward saggybags because I'm trying something new where I run the same faction for about a month (each master at least one Tuesday!) and then move on and I'm in the home stretch for Neverborn. The week of Thanksgiving I'd like to run a brawl against someone. 45 or 50 stone game. Kind of a cap of my Neverborn month. Think about whether you'd like to commit to one of those - they take a bit longer than we're used to!

That would have been me alright.

Very cool! You were my hardest match of the day, actually! All them darned gremlins popin up with guns blazin! It was like trying to play whack-a-mole!

The trick with the flying pig burrowing in in my D-zone kept me from getting a perfect VP score that day!

Damned pigs! :P

If I remember correctly, 'cutting the deck' was made popular by poker. It was more of a superstitious luck/change of fate thing with the cards than it was to stop cheating. Cheating by 'deck stacking' didn't occur too often. Mainly because, in the 1800's(especially out west), cheaters were often shot when caught.

It's also not that hard to spot deck manipulating and dice fixing. Magic the gathering is all about deck manipulation. There's all kinds of tutorials on how to "arrange your deck for optimal performance. There was even a booth at Gencon this year that sells novelty fixed dice and explainations on how it's done. A little light reading and spotting that type of cheating is easier than finding Waldo.

It sounds like a personal grudge and the person with power is using that power to make the other person's life miserable. The sad part is that it sounds like one followed the other all the way to Indy just to try and catch him at cheating.

Anyway...

Nerdelemental, Omenbringer said you were the expert on Colette. I've got nothing for the Arcanists, and her boxset will be all I have when I pick it up. I read through the thread about her and her tactics, but it only really covered what was in the box set. Is there anything else in the Arcanists faction that would be good to add/replace in with the boxset?

@ paradox and dark knight

Really guys please remember the rules of the forum, name calling and airing dirty laundry in a public forum is bad form.

During the peak of WM, RIW did have a bad rep for hyper-competitive players; everyone in the area was aware of this, however it was encouraged by the system itself. Since then WM has changed its tune and the "page 5" mentality has been abandoned.

The Malifaux community consists of many players that abandoned that system because of the mentality that was encouraged. The Tuesday crew playing Malifaux is one that plays to have fun.

To be fair if a group rents a space regardless of where it is they're entitled to do what they want in the space they've paid for. The last time I was up there I noticed a fairly large sign that denotes the time the space is reserved.

That said don't let past experiences jade you to giving a place a second chance. If I would have listened to the nay-sayers I would have never met the great group of guys and gals that play Malifaux.

Dark Knight and Dox,

Guy this is no place as jmp said.

I had finally taken a break from doing things for WARMACHINE and Hordes.

I made it down a few weeks back on a tuesday to play either Malifaux or hordes.

I played Steiner a game of Mailfaux asking him to play Colette versus my Ophelia box.

I din't have a bad game but it was my third game and Rob schooled me. Which forced me to read the rules over and I learned a bunch.

The Coryphee is indeed really good.

With the three doves and spiders rob blew up on my gremlins I had nothing left after turn 3, which left him three turns to kill my wagon I escorted to the center of the table.

I look forward to the next time I can make it down to play.

As for RIW having a Rep. They have four of the top ten percent of WARMACHINE/Hordes players in the nation.

Bowen helps, playtest and write for Malifaux and I am looking forward to grabbing a game with him in the future.

Dox and my days of running events around there like crazy are mostly behind us since we have lives taking us other directions.

Mini art is a club of wargamers that gather at RIW every third saturday. I have attended two of these but have never felt unwelcome. Even if I had to wait for a table.

Lack of communication leads to alot of misinterpretations of people. This includes Rob, Jake, Garrin, Chuck and hell even myself. Long and the short of it is we are here to play games. Tell me what you want and I'll give you a friendly game. Talk trash and throw the gauntlet and you may see the other side of me on the table. In the end it is just a game.

If you cut the deck or not. I dabble in Magic, Malifaux, and many other games. If you don't like someone or have an issue with someone. Good for you. I don't care anymore. We all have issues with other people, I'm here to play games and chew bubblegum.

Now, I'm all out of bubblegum.

I will play anyone anytime, whenever if I'm available.

Ophelia & co, Lady justice and Colette all interest me.

I have no desire to hear someone cry about some bully at the minis store beating them at a miniature game.

It's only a game.

Ok, I guess people missed it so here it is again.

dakrulz55 and I have moved on. We're discussing possible suppliments to the Colette box set. Anyone else have a good suggestion, or do you want to keep rehashing the past?

Nope, dakrulz55 plays with me down in Toledo, and is by far one of our top players, me being the best. (Not ;P) And he is a reliable source for list making.

But I feel we should make a thread for this so we don't bug up Bowen's thread he made for his Tuesday tussels.

At least 18 months..

We usually get to play each other like once a year or so.

I painted my Colette tonight. She is a beautiful model.

December 28th I am looking to make it down to play. THis time earlyier barring sick kids and what not.

Then you'll be playing me that night. Whenever you show. Remind me closer to the night, though, so I don't bump you on the dance card!

You have over a month to plan, too! What faction and/or master do you want to face? ;)

I saw your post out in the main about Hamelin. Hopefully Mav and I will be able to play this Tuesday and he'll be running Ham, I hear.

I had a similar problem facing Hamelin during his design process, but found that since you can walk over the rats you could more easily deal with Ham. Especially with solid damage dealers like Justice or Perdita (or Lilith, for me).

I'll see if I agree with you now or not.

No offense intended, either, but if you had multiple games per every week under your belt I bet other tactical alternatives would have helped you. That's what we'll see about: whether I can crack the nut with any greater ease or if it bogs down on me, too. It could be that he's just an endless wave of defensive sludge and other crews for other games based around the idea of "immovable force that doesn't have teeth" can always make for a boring game.
