Within its confines, untold thousands of Genestealers slowly emerge from hibernation. The Space Marines must enter the cramped corridors and tomb-like chambers of the ancient ship to defeat this alien menace. Space Hulk is a board game for two players, recreating the battles fought between the Space Marines and Genestealers. One player commands the Space Marines as they carry out deadly missions in the ancient Space Hulk, and the other commands the horde of Genestealers opposing them. Space Hulk's fast-paced rules simulate the tense atmosphere of a mission deep inside the cramped confines of a derelict space hulk, where split-second decisions are needed for victory. This boxed game contains: a 23-page Rulebook, a 47-page Mission book and 35 finely-detailed, plastic Citadel miniatures, including: 11 Space Marine Terminators, one Space Marine Terminator Librarian, 22 Genestealers, and one Broodlord. If you say "... in A desparate battle" you're being more precise, referring to a specific battle. Without the "a" the statement becomes more in general terms. supervike Posted August 17, 2009 Report Share Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) I love the 'idea' of Space Hulk, but I just hate the baggage of GW's 'fluff'. It is so overblown and ridiculous, it takes all the 'fun' out of it. I was very excited when i heard Space Hulk was to be re-released...but that has lessened somewhat. Unfortunately, I cannot see any of the pics, as GW's site is 'filtered' from my work computer...So, I'll reserve complete judgement. But $100bones? Yikes! Raf Posted August 17, 2009 Report Share Posted August 17, 2009 Well, although I love Space Hulk it’s hard for me to justify to buy it again. 20 years after, they just release the same game with the same components. OK the stealers minis are nice, but come on, cardboards tiles ? The good news being that at last, GW releases a game other than its 3 main systems. (And Space Hulk is an excellent game for a new generation of players that hasn’t had a chance to try it). The bad news being that plastic scenery would have been excellent and the way to go. Hope the rules haven't been screwed up like in 2nd Ed° though. In France, Space Hulk First Ed° is still within the Top 5 games ever edited ! Genestealers look OK (the wall crawler looks a bit rigid). Terminators look fan(g)tastic. I think the current crop of GW sculptors have refined the basic Goodwin blueprint to as near perfection as possible. I was really tempted to get it, then my computer blew up (quite literally) so no toys for me for a while! I'll just play MechaAce's copy for the time being On a side note, my flatmate found the original 1983 edition of Talisman, in near mint condition, for 50p in a charity shop on Mull (a small scottish island). Thats really the whole deal for me too. I missed Space Hulk in it's first (and subsequent) editions, mainly because I was too interested in 'Fantasy' miniatures. 100 dollars, isn't what it used to be, but if it's a game I get....even 10 hours of enjoyment from, that turns out to be rather cheap entertainment. The thing that sticks in my craw is simply the 'limited edition' aspect. Why would GW want to do it that way? Why not make as many as people want to buy? Regardless, I'm looking forward to it! I've heard vague scuttlebutt that they realized their profit-margin would be low, so they decided to turn this into a "superexclusive-LE" in order to maximize the initial volume of sales (and then forget about it and not support it). Allegedly, this is a "1-print and that's it" sort of deal... we'll see I guess. Part of me thinks is completely assinine, but part of me hopes this gets them to update and reprint some of the other specialist games in a similar manner (Blood Bowl and Necromunda come to mind). Funny I chatted with one of the FFG owners at Gencon and mentioned how there version of Talisman has miniatures. He corrected me and said they don't have miniatures. The game includes "Plastic Character counters". Needless to say if FFG does Space Hulk they will probably include plastic figures, but I would assume they wont be to the scale or detail as GWs stuff. Was just a funny comment he made when I mentioned the difference between Black Libraries version and FFG version of Talisman while in line with someone else waiting to buy Pegasus. Honestly Space Hulk didn't come up. My assumption was based on the fact that FFG rarely does card board pieces for models for there big box games(which is what I assume Space Hulk would have to be).
