  1. That is just sooo brilliant! The scale is also great! I see no reason you can't game with bigger miniatures if the game only needs a handful.
  2. Yeah, it took me a while to really start liking them, as well. And, IIRC, I had some problems getting used to the springyness of the W&N7 brushes compared to what I used prior to those. It's funny to see how much we are slaves to our own habits. You can see the same thing with paints. You'll find people say how difficult this or that paint brand is to blend with or feather with, but it's the very paint you use yourself and you think they're excellent for just those things.
  3. W&N series 7 used to be my favourite brushes. But, lately (the last couple of years) I feel their quality consistency, and above all, quality control has gone down considerably. So much that I feel the prices they charge is unwarranted, considering the number of good alternatives there are out there. The last three or four series 7 brushes I've bought have not been as good as they should be. I've heard plenty of similar reports from other painters, so it's not just me. A good series 7 brush is a really good brush, but if you can't rely on getting a good example when you pay that amount of money, I chose to go elsewhere. Even if you buy the brush in a store and have the opportunity to test it (which I have always done with these brushes) I've found that the brush has lost its shape much quicker than they used to. I like the Rosemary & Co brushes mentioned above. They have excellent quality control and their brushes last as long as the W&N series 7 brushes used to. They're also cheaper. They don't have the exact same properties as the series 7 brushes, but it's a quality product and once you get used to them I think they're among the best brushes out there. The miniature variety of brushes are NOT aimed at miniature painting like we do. They are meant for water colour miniature painting, i.e. small water colour paintings. They are not very suitable for the work we do, so I don't recommend anyone to buy those.
  4. Nothing will bring your friend back. The guy being dead, no matter how he died, won't change that. It was a truly gruesome story... Shit, removing teeth and fingers!?! That's cold-blooded... Oh, and I also saw that Leanne girl win Project Runway... :peep:
  5. You can say it without the "a", as well. If you say "... in A desparate battle" you're being more precise, referring to a specific battle. Without the "a" the statement becomes more in general terms.
  6. The original info of miniature news comes from the companies producing the miniatures. And, it is usually the nature of "spreading news around" to also mention what company they concern. It seems a bit superfluous to me to mention that "oh, and I saw these news first being reported on this or that site..." as, IMO, the original source (i.e. the manufacturer) is the only part that matters. In the case of using images that does not come from the company in question (photos taken at conventions, etc.)... If someone posts them on the Internet, they must be aware that the pictures are "out there" and may be used by others. Yes, you can be polite and mention who took the pictures, but if someone doesn't, what's to be done about it? And here, as well, the important thing is what is shown, the products and who made them.
  7. Those minotaurs are not bad at all... But, I've had a soft spot for the Rackham minotaurs, so that is not surprising...
  8. I strongly recommend anyone going to Gen Con to attend this seminar. As said, Shep Paine is a legend and his importance to our hobby is enormous, even though you may never have had any interest in historical minis. He is also rather entertaining to listen to.
  9. I think it would be a good seller. The acessory packs as they are now are great, but for those who want several lamp posts it would be great to be able to get a multi-pack of just those.
  10. Is there anyone going to GenCon that would be willing to do me a huge favour? The CMON store is releasing two new minis (limited edition, as usual... arrrgh) and I really want one of them badly. Seeing as they're limited and several of the previous CMON minis have went for rather inflated prices on ebay there's a risk that they'll sell the entire stock at GenCon and none will be left for mail order. Would anyone going to GenCon be willing to buy a copy of the mini for me and mail it to me afterwards? PM me if so. I can pay in advance, so I don't interfere with your budget. The mini I want is this one: CMON42 Kingha the Amazon from Enigma Miniatures CMON is located at booth #1524, almost opposite to Reaper. Thanks in advance!
  11. No sword... check! No armour... check! No skulls... check! No spikes... check! Yes, I approve!
  12. Cats go crazy if you point a lazer pointer in front of them. You can have them running, literally, up the walls chasing that dot.
  13. One-part water effects usually sucks. It is because they shrink quite substantially as they set. This can give a lot of unwanted effects. Usually, at least if you want some depth (more than a few millimeters), a two-part resin is the way to go. They have little or no shrinkage.
  14. You should rather ask what she is smoking...
  15. Thanks everyone! :vb_cheers @Scott Usually, when it's your birthday, you get carried through the town in a big chair carried by 20-35 tall, blonde women without clothes on. Then you must climb up to the roof of the highest building in the town and hold a speech. Then people throw cheese at you. @goblyn Those cookies to the right in the photo were marvellous. I didn't care for the green cone-like thingies, though, but the red ones were tasty. Actually, what I did on my birthday was to visit the town I grew up in, had a nice dinner at my parents' house and then walked over to a friend's house where he and a couple of other old friends of mine had arranged a small music festival in the garden. There was good food, huge amounts of wine, nice people and great music. A perfect way to celebrate!
  16. What I meant is, of course, that I use the empty bolt shell you get with the master brush set as a water cup. And we all know you need the master brush set if you want to paint as well as the´Eavy Metal team... Seriously though... I find it hillarious that after being in the business for some 30 years they all of a sudden decide to introduce the hordes of GW fans to the new invention: The Water Cup! How could we have lived without it? I can just picture it... You walk into a GW store to buy a mini or a couple of paint pots and the "helpful" staff, after having asked you if you have glue, brushes, whatever, asks you "do you have a water cup?".
  17. I can get a pallette with ten wells instead of four, for half the price, at my local art store. And the cup... don't get me started... :der:
  18. It's a great looking miniature! I think it would have been better if they had gotten it painted before advertising, though. I'd had to look quite closely to make out all the details. It's very likely that I pick this one up.
  19. I'd say the nature is Norway's biggest asset. If they have the possibility they should rent a car and go up the coast where the mountains almost go directly down into the sea. They will see some pretty gorgeous scenery along the way. It sounds as if time won't allow them to travel to the most northern parts, though, or I would definitely have recommended visiting the Lofoten islands. My aunt used to live there, so I've been there a few times. Beautiful! If you're lucky you can see whales and orcas, at least if you go out with a boat a bit off the coast.
  20. I'd have preferred it without the right hand grabbing the cloak. It looks a bit weird from some angles. But, in all other aspects it's a very nice model.
  21. Haha!! Yeah, I bet the leg is there somewhere. Can't imagine them forgetting it. But it looks weird, and a different angle would be nice.
  22. I think it looks like some sort of freaky steampunk version of Dali's elephants.
