Making Links Into Images

Recommended Posts

OK, this is the last time I'm ever going to ask this on this forum - I want to make links be images directly, generally for everyone else's benefit, not mine.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything I'm supposed to, and trying a few different ways and none of them are working: this seems to not be being taken seriously, I'm receiving no further help, and am looking crap and stupid as a result.

Taking the new Helldorado green as an example (I didn't forget the img tags):-

Here's the link:-

http://helldorado.fr/ressources/secteur/article_id424/original_HtmlArea/green-lit-tsu.jpg

Pressing the Insert Image button puts up a little window asking for the URL of the image. It disables the File, Edit, View etc bar so you have to use Ctrl+V to paste the URL in or type it in manually. Either (and I've tried both) gets you this:-

green-lit-tsu.jpg

[i just get the red x box]

Using BBCode img tags gets you this:-

a>

I've tried capitals too:-

a>

I know that HTML is disabled but I've even tried that:-

<img src="http://helldorado.fr/ressources/secteur/article_id424/original_HtmlArea/green-lit-tsu.jpg">

[These just give me "url" etc with the url underlined.]

I can nearly always see other people's images (sometimes get red x).

What's up? Do I need to change a setting in my User CP, or on my computer itself? Am I just doing something so basic that everyone assumes that everyone else knows it, wrong? Please assume no prior knowledge on my part when it comes to computers.

To explain what I see - bit of solipsism crept in there ... oops!

Malebolgia: Cheers. Do any of the examples I posted above show an image on your computer? With the tags, do you just type [img] in front of the url and then at the end (as I have) or do you have to do something else - again, please, assume no prior knowledge?

Just pasted the image itself over (not url link) without doing anything else, and it seems to work, thanks a million! We'll see when I hit submit.

EDIT: Works but unwieldy (can't type anything after the image), unlike using the green-lit-tsu.jpg

Should be able to type after the message, as if you do the insert and then click underneath it and hit enter and start typing it shows up.

green-lit-tsu.jpg

Type, type, type ..

Let me know if you need anything else, we haven't got you setup on an idiot list (which we do have one) where folks are unable to use certain features of the site due to X or Y.

Testing...

Cool!:)

Well that's the practical bit sorted (I can now do this) thanks, but I'm curious and might need to use one of the other methods one day for some reason.

Could someone please tell me if any of the attempts/examples in my top post yield an image for them? If not, what I might have needed to do. Again, if for the tags, you just need to type [img]url then I swear that that doesn't work, honest! I've explained what I tried with each method in the top post.

Nice to know I'm not on an idiot list though (though was only millimetres away from being on a despairing and lashing out like a mentalist and getting banned list;) ).

Here's what you've done wrong:

First try: It says "%7Boption%7Dhttp://http//" followed by the url, followed by the end tag. The "http://http//" makes the url invalid. Skip the "http//" and just keep the "http://".

Second try: You have both %7Boption%7D and tags, making the url invalid for the image rendering. Skip the tags.

Third try: Same as second.

Fourth try: Again, don't use the tags. is for making a clickable link.

when you use the insert image button, it auotmagickally puts in the http:// so when you paste in a url, you have to either a) delete the http:// before you paste it in, or B) check for extra http:// s in the url after, you can always use the preview post button to see if the image will post correctly.

there are some sites that you can't directly link to images,

notable ones are Tabletopgamingnews.com and privateerpress.com

Oh no.... There's an idiot list? CRAP!

Lemme go create a new acct...

This is good info guys, I had a tough time figuring this out at first as well. Maybe there could be a sticky somewhere with instructions for new/non comp savy people to read so they can post pics and get in on the action.

Don't worry Peterdita, I think TBK is at the top of that one, being the most mentally disturbed of anyone here.

I mean, geez, anyone who likes bugs and spiders.... gaaaaah!

Thanks for the info folks!:) If I seemed a bit arsey it was because this was all the kind of stuff I wanted to do when I moved to the new place, but was forced to leave before I had chance so it reminds of the life I should have been living rather than the 'life' I've been forced to return to.:(

And just general things getting on top of me and being pecked to death by relentless ducks, and not receiving any help from anywhere, but only endless hinderance.

Not wanting to be all Oprah but you know, it's a bad time (and keeps getting worse) - please bear with me for a while....

Mentally disturbed yes. Lacking computer savvy no.

There really should be a sticky listing the common pitfalls that can occur with adding image tags. I tend to just copy the url in the relevant window or tab, type in then paste the url in place and type in the

However I would have been caught up with the pasting the http:// in add url thingy.

Another funny bit of computer shenanigans: I wanted to change my signature to this:-

Just to save time in my posts: Yannick Hennebo:inlove:.

And did, as far as I was concerned (I've copied it directly from the edit signature bit in the User CP, having saved it).

But no - check my sig: them computers always know best!....

EDIT: Really don't care but curious....
