supervike Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 It's been a Wyrd Year!! What a wild, wacky, wyrd year it's been. Lots of great stuff came out over that past 12 months, and it got me wondering ... what mini was the 'best' of the bunch? So, here is a 'year in review' of all the releases made from the last year. I figure we can have a poll and vote, all democratic like! Plus, feel free to add your thoughts/feelings/concerns about Wyrd Miniatures from the past year. Anything from GenCon to Iron Painter. Let's hear about it! The Releases: The year started of with a bang (and a slice!) With the Weapons sprues: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=1776 Picking up speed in the Spring, a doozie release showed us Nicodem, the Undertaker; Mortimer the Gravedigger, Rasputina (and her little doggie too), and the Samurai Punk Zombies: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=2055 Just before the summer months kicked in, How about some testosterone? Injun Joss, Marcus the Beastmaster, the three headed Sabretooth Cerebus, and some Dire Mushrooms for that fungal flavor. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=2552 The dog days of summer showed us sweet little Candy, Dr. Douglas Mcmourning, and Sebastian, Morgue Assistant. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=2930 Letting us show our colors, Wyrd began to clothe us....Yay! Stylish Tees for us to show our allegiances! http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=2911 Freshly back from Gencon, the Rotten Belles were the belles of the ball! Madame Sybelle leads the pack of not so fresh consorts. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=3066 Not being content with just one Viktoria, the Alternate version also showed us she cannot be ignored. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=3174 Blasting their way into the Fall picture, the Ortegas showed us why leather, gun powder, and a little craziness can be so damn fun. Perdita, Francisco, Santiago, Nino and Papa Loco give an old west flavor to the Wyrd world. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=3295 Finishing strong for the year Wyrd hits it out of the park with the Witchling Stalkers, the crazy cool Golem, and the dead sexy Lilith, with one of her bastard offspring. A great bunch of releases, something to keep every painter, gamer, or mini-geek satisfied. BUT...what do you think? Which of the releases is the BEST OF THE YEAR? Vote in the poll to help decide! Also, feel free to talk about anything Wyrd-ed that happened over the last year. What do you like about the site? The Arcade, the Painting contests, that super sexy moderator they have? Let's hear about it!! Quote
DrEvilmonki Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 I went for the grave digger. I just love the cartoon like character to him. The range has certainly grown very well and the releases have all been pretty good quality. Quote
demonherald Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Ask Eric or Nathan I don't think it would be a big surprise what I went for....Golem..Love it... Great set of releases and the future looks great..definitely some of the more characterful models out there....onwards and upwards Quote
Hinton Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 So many great releases; only one vote. I went with Lilith as the best release this year. On a personal note, this past year has been great (as I mentioned in another thread). Going to GenCon was definitely one of the highlights as I got to meet a lot of you there. It was a lot of fun and it was great to see many of you in person finally. There have also been a couple of other truly great things that happened to me this year and, yes, they're connected to Wyrd (or at least, because I'm a member here). A hugh, heartfelt thank you to Nathan for having the site and producing such great minis. Without you having this place for all of us, those two things probably wouldn't have happened for me. And a thank you to all of you here that have made the past year here at Wyrd both fun and interesting. Quote
DrEvilmonki Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 This year has also seen Wyrd become my first site to visit when I jump on the computer. It's a nice place to visit. Quote
r2-j1 Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 I went with Mortimer the Gravedigger also, for the reasons as Drevilmonki. I love the cartoonish, yet still detailed style. He has the best of both worlds. My runners up are Sebastian morgue assistant, the witchling stalkers, and the ice golem. Quote
demonherald Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Yup it's now my first site....I'm a simple soul don't ask for much .. minis and Nice folks and this site has it... Lillith I think is one of those landmark models for Wyrd as she is the first by Werner Klocke a bit of a coup really.. seeing Mortimer and sebastian taking an early lead is very fitting as I think when they came along they heralded a strong look for Wyrd and Mortimer get's my vote as one of the best paintjobs of the year not just on here but fullstop I look at the face of the painted mini and look at the size of the face on the sculpt and drool slightly at what Anders did there...Beautiful work... Quote
Larkin Vain Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 I voted for Rasputina and her little doggie. Great model! I love the little doggie. I hope one day they will be available separately. Quote
goblyn13 Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 For me it was Rasputina and her little snow lion (yes its a snow lion, check the concept art sketch!!) That was the model that brought me over the top from gawking at the pictures, to actually buying Wyrd Miniatures. but I ave to say the Psycho Dwa...er... Witchling Stalkers are just awesome. I haven't picked up the Golem yet, but he's on my day after Christmas online shopping blitz list. and I still have a bit more, for some reason, Wyrd's minis kinda have the Pokemon feel (gotta get them all ) Quote
Duende Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Since I can't vote for all of them, I also picked Rasputina because of her cute little lethal kitty. Quote
Wren Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Yep, hard choices indeed! I didn't realize that was all within the year. I was torn between Rasputina, Lilith and the Rotten Belles, but gave the vote to Rasputina (and buddy). Quote
Doomsdave Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 I voted for Perdita. I just got her in the mail today!!!! Much happy dancing occurred. She is a fantastic sculpt!! I hope I can do her justice. Quote
wingz Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 I had to go with the Witchling Stalkers . I think the little guys look awesome & they're a great price. This year ive really gotten back into minis & Wyrd has some of the best looking ones around.. I just started Viktoria today.. I cant wait to see what yall put out next year. Quote
lauth81 Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 My favourite is Rasputina, too. Runner-up would be the Morgue Master and I liked the TShirts - even if I didn't buy one so far. Quote
DrEvilmonki Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Only one vote isn't enough. I will be saving some pingers so I can get more of this stuff next year Quote
Skya Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 I went for Rasputina as well. Almost voted for Lilith, but she hasnt been around long enough for me to really decide on. Besides, I love the familiars. *itches for more cool little tiny guys to paint* Quote
Ritual Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Sebastian, for me... That sculpt is one of the most characterful minis ever! Quote
Nightgoblin Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 It was difficult to find one piece... I thought about Alternate Viktoria, Lilith and a nephilim, Rasputina and her little doggie, the Witchling Stalkers, Perdita and The Wyrd T-shirts. Viktoria won, I like the her style. You can play her with a fantasy-, a scifi- or a steampunk-background and it is always a great modell... Quote
redstripe Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 I really like Rasputina and it was my favorite for a long while. Then I recieved the Douglas McMourning, Morgue Master, and it has suddenly toppled the Ice Witch. He just has that mad doctor look that puts him over the top. That's who I voted for. Top notch minis all around. Quote
stubbdog Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 I'll be honest, I like most of the 2006 releases mor than the 2007 releases, just cause they're more my style. But, that doesnt mean i dont like the 2007 releases. But, if I ha to give a suggestion for future, I liked the Misaki the best of all releases so far, and would love to see that part of the line embellished a bit more. Quote
demonherald Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 looks like rasputinas running away with it......gotta watch them ice witches.... Quote
supervike Posted December 18, 2007 Author Report Posted December 18, 2007 I actually voted for the Gravedigger....but easily could have voted for Rasputina, or Lillith, or several others with no prob. Quote
demonherald Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 1,2,3 voting like the comps may have put things a bit closer I think everyone has at least 2 or 3 favourites which is a good thing personally I find it easier to pick things from the wyrd line I dn't like but in all honesty there isn't any really..great minis Quote
Sephiroth Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 This is really hard to find a decision. There are a lot of minis I like, but I can only give one my vote. The weapon sprues are very good too, but no miniatures. So... I voted for Lilith and a nephilim Quote
Coneman Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Well done on releasing so many great miniatures, a hard choice with many on my must order list. Lilith won out in the end. I was going to order a bunch of metal for xmas but due to my fridge coughing its last breath of cold air I had to invest in a chunk of metal of a different kind. On the plus side I now have a nice shiny stainless steel fridge that coughs up chunks of ice at the push of a button, no more running out of ice for my bourbon. Had to get a plumber in to attach the water supply too, which was an added expence I didnt think of when I bought it. Not sure how I thought it was going to make ice without water. I guess I will just have to get some of these other miniatures painted over xmas so I have an even better excuse to order more once I get back to work. Merry Xmas all and stay safe. Quote
