  1. I did some experiments with tinting the ocean and they all looked like crap. Blue over brown just ended up looking grey. I may try again now that I'm not on a deadline. As for the dragon, there were unexpected advantages to being at ReaperCon for most of last round. I had access to the boneyard, so I hodgepodged together the body from the newest desert dragon with the wings from the for dragon hatchling and the head and tentacles from some odd fishy monster. I'll get you guys some better close ups at some point once I catch up to myself from the crazy of the last two weeks.
  2. @easily_mused: it amsues me that it's about the size of my pinky nail, and I have tiny hands. @Luisjoey: Not Westeros, although that would be cool. @SpectreEliteGaming: the flat feel was intentional to pull off the impression of being a map.
  3. Sailing off the edge of the map is always distressing, but it's definitely more so when there be dragons.

Best use of a CrunchWaffle waggling ever! Love the puddle uner the barrel, though I feel like the textures over the rest of it are a bit lacking though. The wood looks great but everything else feels a little too smooth.

The light effect is mostly artistic liscense, it works better in person. I think to make it properly naturalistic I'd need to knock a heavy shadow across the puppy, and I didnt really want to do that as I wanted him to stand out but to have the light frame the prospector. As for the stand I agree. I like the way it pulls him up and makes it feel properly cliff like, but I'd have been a lot happier if I could have found the same piece of wood, only darker. I may see if I can stain it before showing it at ReaperCon, there was no way I had time to do so for Iron Painter.

Spectre: if I can fit it in the themes I'm actually really temped yo try. I enjoyed this a lot. I'm intrigued by the mixed reaction to the base. I'm really happy with it and find it sets of the rest of the piece in a way I like a lot. I squeed a little when the idea for it came to me after I had just put up the previous pics, and then pouted because I didn't think I'd have time to do it. I'm just glad the day ended up rearranging itself so that I ended up with time after all.

Based on the tarot card The Fool , I present a westerned themed interpretation of the card. The Fool is the first card of the major arcana, filled with boundless enthusiasm the fool starts his journey filled with joy, not noticing the drop he's about to walk off.

Based on the tarot card, The Fool. We have the prospector picking up his fools gold, as he is obliviously about to walk off the cliff while his happy dog capers after him.
  9. Paint, and more paint.

  10. It's a new year and that means MHE (Miniatures Hobby Events) at Gen Con are searching for instructors and volunteers of all stripes. We need a folks willing to help us out with hobby classes, Paint & Take, Demonstration tables, Speed Paint Arena, and a lot more. Instructors and volunteers can earn free badges and help with hotel space and costs. Even if you don't paint, or you only have a couple of hours, we need your help to keep these great events going! Teach a Class! Instructors set their own prices for classes, and although Gen Con does get a portion, the rest is paid to the Instructor. The volunteer staff of MHE guides you through our submission and scheduling process, submits all events to Gen Con, assists with supplies and storage, handouts, help with setup and clean up, as well as handling ticket paperwork and security. Just contact Katie at mhe.wrangler@gmail.com with what you want to teach and she'll set you up. Be a Volunteer! Join our crew of volunteers and help us run these events smoothly. We have a lot of fun, and helping has it's rewards! Get in touch with Noel Meyer at painterskya@yahoo.com for more information on all the many ways you can help. We have plenty of work to do that doesn't need painting skills, just a love of minis. But if you can paint, come hang out with people who share your love of the hobby! Event submission starts this week and badge and hotel pre-reg start next week so if you want to be part of the MHE Crew, the time is now!
  11. Oooo she turned out gorgeous. I may steal your holly pattern for a piece I'm doing for my mother for Christmas.
  12. Wyrd tourney at my local store huh? I dont actually play, but maybe I'll bring out some paints and come harass you guys while you play.
  13. Not to mention the fact that when pulling apart pocket watches apparently you need a much finer set of tools then your standard eyeglasses screwdriver kit. *mutters annoyedly* Paying someone else to do the work seems well worth the cost to me..
  14. Yikes, I wander off for a couple months come back and everyone's babbling about some cool new game... I'm going to have to start going through just the forums I read instead of going all the way through the list of new posts since I last visited or I'll never have time to actually paint.
