chonk34
Hi all, I found the site based on the Femme Fatale announcement on The Miniatures Page. I was lured in by the promise of prizes for people who voted and commented on every entry in the contest. I'm a sucker for prizes. I've been painting miniatures for a about a year now, with approximately 220 minis finished at this point. I consider myself an okay painter, but there are about a million things I need to learn to do better. My focus is mostly on painting units of figures for gaming, although I take extra time trying to make special characters stand out from the crowd. Other hobbies for me include World of Warcraft, looking for stuff that my Basset Hound steals, fantasy sports, and wasting as much time on the internet as possible. It seems that you all have a pretty good community going on here, and I hope I can add something to it.
Hinton
Welcome to the boards, chonk. Yeah, this place is pretty cool. Lots of friendly people and a pretty good place to get pointers, advice, etc. Hope you enjoy it.

lauth81
Hi and welcome! 220 minis and about a year? That's quite a quick pace! You like fantasy sports? If there are more people interested in playing fantasy sports, we could open up a league to add more to the already existing (friendly) competition here. Fantasy Football in September anyone? callumrice
Welcome aboard Chonk. Most of the guys are a good laugh here. Watch out for Eric though, or "shoddy" as he calls himself. Cant trust that one. A And 220 models in a year? Thats more than Ive EVER painted! Christ. @lauth81 fantasy football is great, I would be well up for it. What would you go on though? Im now considered a pro at the English Premiership when it comes to FF but as your from Germany and most members here are from the states what would you do? The Bundesligue? Champs League? American Football? (hell no!) or another sport altogether.

EricJ
yeah, I don't think I've painted even 100 minis in the last 4 years! But welcome to the forums, this is a good place filled with nice people, except cal...who always has to overcompensate due to his feelings of inadiquacy being paired against me in Iron Painter...sad really. Nathan Caroland
Welcome to Wyrd! So what's the story behind your user name?
lauth81
American Football? (hell no!) HELL YES! But maybe we should discuss this in another thread. Fantasy sports with soccer is just lame. Fantasy sports with American Football is so much more fun.
supervike
HELL YES! Fantasy sports with American Football is so much more fun. It really is fun...but time consuming. Plus it really started to interfere with my just being a football fan. I cared less about the games and more about the stats....I gave it up last year and enjoyed football much more. chonk34
Hi and welcome! 220 minis and about a year? That's quite a quick pace! You like fantasy sports? If there are more people interested in playing fantasy sports, we could open up a league to add more to the already existing (friendly) competition here. Fantasy Football in September anyone? A large number of those 220 minis are basic troops for armies, which I do in an assembly-line fashion. They don't get a lot of bells and whistles, so I probably end up averaging 1 1/2 hours per model for them. I'll spend probably 4+ hours on special characters, and I worked on my Warhammer Giant for two weeks last month. But the bulk of my minis are basic troopers used for gaming. It seems that the focus here is more on individual miniatures done to a high standard with very nice basing, which would naturally result in a smaller output. The short version of this paragraph is that I am not some amazing speed-painter, just a moderate painter churning out units. I love Fantasy Sports. I generally have four teams (Yahoo! only allows four teams per sport) for all of the major sports (American Football, Baseball, Basketball) and dabble in the Golf, NASCAR, and March Madness stuff. I've started running leagues for The Miniatures Page, and would be open to competing in any leagues based here as well. It's always more fun to play against people you know. Welcome to Wyrd! So what's the story behind your user name? "Chonk" is a word my sister and I used to use when interrupting each other. It's quite bothersome to have someone repeatedly yelling, "Chonk!" when you're trying to tell them something. The 34 comes from basketball. It was Hakeem Olajuwon's jersey number. He played basketball for the Houston Rockets and led them to two championships in the 90s.

chonk34
I won a local painting contest and I've posted a couple of pics in my member gallery. It's not an amazing piece of work, but it was good enough for this contest. I still have a lot of stuff to learn when it comes to painting minis.
