Mei Feng ability question

Ravencroft

Question

Greetings Wyrdos,

I have a question about one of Mei Feng's abilities and one of her triggers. The trigger is her Jackhammer Kick which states "Push the target 2" away from this model. Then, take this Action again." Now, according to this verbage, she should not be able to take Deadly Claws again, as the target model is now more than 1" away. Now, enter her ability Constant Motion which states "Whenever this model declares a Trigger, it may Push 2" after resolving the current Action (but before resolving any additional Actions granted by that Trigger, if any)." This is how Mei can hit with the Jackhammer Kick. The question is when is the timing and is this actually correct? One can read it and say that the current Action is the damage from Deadly Claws, in which Mei would push first, then the other model, thus not being able to attack again. Another way of reading it is that the additional Action is the "Take this action again" part of the Trigger, which would be the enemy model pushes and then Mei pushes from Constant Motion. Could someone please clarify this. Thanks.

Remember that actions generated by actions are resolved after all of the other effects of an action have been resolved.

So the sequence of events is:

  • Main attack effect
  •  A. Trigger effect
  •  B. Constant Motion (the parenthetical is redundant)
  • The action generated by “Take this action again.” (Remember, it was generated by a trigger, so the new action can’t declare triggers.)

Now, the trigger and constant motion are both after the action has been resolved, so you could do them in either order (ab or ba).

So, short version:  “after an action has been resolved” has a specific meaning in the rulebook, and is also specified in the timing chart.

Edit:  For reference, in the timing chart:

”Step F.  Anything that happens after an Action is resolved, including any After Resolving and After Succeeding Triggers. Remember: Triggers that do not specify a timing are assumed to be After Succeeding Triggers.”
and the Actions Generated By Action’s sections

”Many effects in Malifaux, (such as Actions, Abilities, and Triggers) can cause a model to take an Action.
When this happens, the new Action is always resolved after the previous Action is completely resolved, including any “After Resolving” effects, but before any other new Action can be taken.”

The trigger says take the action again. It doesn't require you to target the same model. Additionally if you push the traget into something that stops it moving it may still be in range.

@solkan
"Step 6: After Resolving" (pg23) is actually still part of resolving an Action

"If a Trigger generates an Action, that Action is an independent Action from the Action that generated it. The Trigger takes effect per its timing structure, but the model taking the Action cannot do so until all other effects (including other Triggers) have been resolved." pg12

Even if this wasn't the case the trigger itself specfically gives the order the effects need to be resoled in. Which is resolve the push and then take the action again.

Sorry, bad reading day :(

not the actual question in the OP but something to note is that Mei's trigger does not say you have to target the same model. You can take the action targeting any legal target. This is something that makes Mei a little unique. If you just want to beat on one model, having min 4 damage is better than 2 attacks where you have to hit with both. Mei can move around and hit multiple models.
