Titania's Cruel Disappointment VS Red Joker

Soykaf

Question

Good day. I have a question about Red Joker's damage "type". Titania's Cruel Disappointment says: "When a friendly model within :ToS-Aura:3 would suffer Severe damage, it suffers Moderate damage instead"

What would happen, if Red Joker will be flipped on damage against a model under the Cruel Disappointment effect?

1) Model suffers Moderate damage +1

2) Model suffers Moderate damage

3) Model suffers Severe damage +1

Yeah, the split Red Joker results...

There's part one:

Quote

The Red Joker has a value of 14 and one suit of its owner’s choice. It counts as a Severe card.

and there's part two:

Quote

If the Red Joker is flipped in an opposed duel, the opposing model may not Cheat Fate. If it comes up in a variable flip that involves numbers (such as damage or healing flips), the Red Joker does Severe +1.

For what it's worth, the answer in the previous edition (when the red joker was severe+light damage) was this:

Quote

WARNING:  OLD FAQ

Although the Red Joker deals an amount of damage equal to Severe plus Weak, it counts as dealing Severe damage for the purposes of any rules which reference damage categories (for example, Molly’s Revelation Attack Action would inflict Paralyzed on the target in the case of Red Joker damage, and Nix’s Weakness Ability would reduce the Red Joker to Moderate damage).

For context, Nix's Weakness ability reduced Severe damage to Moderate.  In other words, reducing it to Moderate removed the the bonus damage.

Edit:  Looking at the Variable Flips chart, where it lists 14 as Severe, it looks like that reasoning still applies.  So it's Severe damage that happens to be 1 point higher than normal; and that would get reduced to unmodified Moderate.
