rustychops
Hey there, Me and my partner picked up the starter box for Malifaux and have played through the book a few times. We have really enjoyed ourselves so far with the two balanced teams and are now looking for pick up a full crew to play around with. My partner has already set her sights on picking up pandora (she really liked the models) but im still a little lost as to what to play. Originally I was looking at the new resers box coming out (the nun on the horse). However the date I thought it was coming out turned out to be an estimate. So iv been waiting a month for a box that would never come. So now I have to pick a new box! There a few that tickled my fancy but I have not managed to lock myself in on any. The boxes were : Tara (outcasts) Leveticus Jack Daw Kirai and really, anything that isn't cowboys or zombies. I'm not super picky, I just like cool models that aren't just.. humans with guns or humans dual wielding swords. I dont mind picking up a box that is a little hard to learn at first. As long as it pays off in the end. I also don't want to play a crew that's not fun to play against (kiting players around the table and such). I heard Lilith and Hamlin can be a little boring and repetitive. I also don't want to pick up a crew that completely counters or is completely countered by Pandora. I dont want a Eldar vs Chaos space marines situation to happen here (for anyone familiar with 40k) Thank you so much for any help you can give! Freman
Lynch as Ten Thunders? Gambling man with a demon in his back pocket. His themed crew is pretty darn cool.
Masquer
What playstyles do you enjoy?

I quite like the whole, send in your melees and keep your squishy's back. Im pretty terrible with risking high-cost characters. But im not opposed to a good brawl too. squishy high cost melee characters with lots of abilities scare me. Im not really the trickiest person out there also. So I don't think I'd go down so well with arcanists. I also like characters that roam around in a death ball. Buffing their death ball while being hard to kill themselves. Doesn't need to be a super tight knit death ball. But I hope you understand what I mean. For example in the starter set, you get two weak guys on the guild side that can spend two actions to heal another model for 2. So you walk them around with the high health and defense chainsaw dude. Letting him take the hits while they heal him back up or at least half negate the damage he takes. Then you have the nurse who locks models in place for this mini death squad to swarm. That kinda thing. I hope that info was a little useful to help narrow something down. Lynch is pretty cool. Though I wasn't so fond of the rest of Ten Thunders. Cinnamon Bear
When I think of death ball I think Hoffman or Collodi. Hoffman likes robots and doesn't necessarily work well with the starter box other than being in the same faction, but he basically travels with a group of robots he keeps looped together so that they use whatever the highest value of any looped in model is. He can give some models slow to give others fast, and basically works to create synergy between everything in his bubble.
Freman
Lynch can go Neverborn too, but you'd probably end up sharing models with your partner. That said, Nekima is a pretty nice beatstick to run along with Huggy. Tara is a dual faction master too, and that can be good or bad depending how many models you want to play, but then Jack Daw takes Tormented models, and a fair few of those are Ressers, so Tara and he can share them. You see how Wyrd sucks us in. Kirai is a strong master, but her box is probably the least "stand-alone" in the game because her models are mostly summons, and there's pretty much nothing hireable. You'll end up having to buy a bunch of extra models just to play. Of course Leveticus is Leveticus, but with his box, Ashes and Dust, Desolation Engine, and probably another box of Abominations, you're good to go. For myself I'd say Tara, not because I've played her (but I do have her painted and ready to play) but her ability to hand out fast and slow synergizes with every model you might field. Even Desperate Mercenaries might be able to do something when she pings them one wound for fast and they blaze away with 6 shots at positive flips (Sh 2 though). Butch
In the long term you will not play a single master but a faction. So if you want to play Reva you did also choose to play ressers. You will use other models and other masters of your faction. So if Reva is still the master you want to play, look for other resser masters. Or if you really don't like zombies maybe Reva isn't the right master for you. Look at the factions. And choose the faction with the aesthetic you like most.
rustychops
Hey guys, Thank you so much for all the advice you gave. I ended up going with Tara based off Butches comment. I was looking to other characters but just didnt really like the vibe. Also going with Tara gives me a nice inbetween point for either going Res or Outcast after playing a bunch of games with her. TBH im not actualy sure if shes any good. I was just so in love the little cthulu balls on legs and the big squid (who was a lot small than I thought it would be) I was looking to jack daw and Lividicus. Though they did seem quite complex. Though I hear the same for Tara. So it appears I am boned either way : P Thanks again heaps for the help. You will probably see me posting on the forums for help on tatics in the near future. When my partner stomps me into the mud over and over Cheers, PS. What is the Errata thing im hearing about. Is it a new set of charcter cards I need to download or somthing? Im guessing the cards I got in the box will not be up to date then? Im seeing it everywhere haha

Im seeing it everywhere haha Changes regarding Tara and her Crew: Tara's Stutter Time Ability got clarified. Tara gained The Herald of Obliteration Ability which allows her to hire up to 4 models with the Void Characteristic regardless of the declared Faction. Death Marshals also lose the Living Characteristic and gain the Undead Characteristic instead. (Previously The Darlings Ability granted by the Dead of Winter Upgrade.) Tara's Dead of Winter Upgrade instead of The Darlings Ability now grants The World is Empty Ability which allows you to reduce damage sufferd by models with the Void Characteristic by 1 by discarding a card. Nothing Beast, Void Wretch, Scion of the Void, Death Marshal all received the Void Characteristic. Scion of the Void for that reason no longer has now redundant Follower of the Void Ability which allowed her to be hired regardless of the declared Faction and to hire Void Wrethces and Nothing Beast regardless of the declared Faction as well. Nothing Beast also got promoted to Henchman. Preview of the errata cards can be found here and the corresponding post here.
Terwox
I essentially started w/ Tara too -- she's really fun! She should be able to do ok w/ Dr. Grimwell if you want to do the "beastie bomb" style with a model you already have -- so on the first turn, you can tag Grimwell with fast (from Obliteration Symbiote), bury him w/ Glimpse the Void, walk twice, use eternal moment, wait until the end of the turn, walk a couple more times, unbury grimwell, and hopefully have him in position to walk from nimble, focus, then lobotomize someone's brain out. Looks like that one goes about 23" from your deployment, 27" if you're Outcasts and take scramble. Also I forget if faces of the void and void shield come in her box now -- if they don't, you might want to grab those from wargamevault or upgrade deck 1 when you get the new cards -- they really help the Nothing Beast and Karina. Enjoy!
Freman
Faces of the Void and Void Shield should be in her box, just as the rewritten cards will be in her box when the next set of boxes come off the production line.
JisaacT
Have fun with Tara! She is super interesting and I also love the look of her models like you do. Great choice! I enjoy her flexibility being able to go to outcasts or ressurs, although ressurs is my main faction. Let us know if you need any help!
