Pursuits with Level 0 Talents

Hi! Into The Steam brings Pursuit that gives you Talents at Step 0 and as a I see is a nice boost since you don´t need to spend time in order to know about the feel of that Pursuit. Any advice about having Step 0 Talents for the Pursuits that appear in Fated Almanac? Maybe an errata adding the Talents?

There are currently no plans to errata the Pursuits in the Fated Almanac to give them Rank 0 Talents.

I'd love to do it, but I'm of the opinion that errata exists to fix things which are broken or confusing, not simply to boost things in power.

The other Pursuits are not broken but I see as unfair for the first Pursuit to not have Rank 0 Talents. Furthermore if the pursuits from the following TTB books will have it. When a player is picking a Pursuit will always see the Fated Almanac Pursuits and say ei! why they don´t have Rank 0 Talents?

I don't think that Pursuits in later books were buffed. The Step 0 Talents are not particularly powerful, but they are a nice way to start off a Pursuit. The Pursuits from the core book are still as viable as ever, and they give you access to numerous things that you can't get any other way. The Fated Almanac also has more generalized Pursuits, allowing for a better blend of Pursuits than sticking purely to expansion books.

I really don't think anyone who uses purely Pursuits from expansion books has a significant advantage on someone who doesn't.

How about these ideas to kick it off...

Academic

Dissertation:  One topic of specialisation that you always get a positive flip in, on the downside you can't ever shut up about it

Perfomer

For my public:  The performer has a fan base and once per session that can call upon them for a vital clue, concealment from guild patrols etc (think Mel from Flight of the Conchords)

Drudge

You do it for her:   There is something that makes the toil worthwhile - maybe a baby daughter, an unrequited love for a guardsman or just sweet sweet liquor.   The drudge gets a bonus to resist hardship, torture, exhaustion where the special objective benefits from the suffering

Gunslinger

Squint:   challenge to size up the room, determine relative strengths and experience, see who is armed

Dabbler

Air of the Rum and Uncanny:  The dabbler may not actually be able to do magic yet, but they can appear mysterious, make seemingly wise pronouncements and scare off weak willed bullies.

Also remember that the Pursuits from the Fated Almanac start with a General Talent which can be generally roughly equivalent in power level to the level 0 talents from Into the Steam. Just wanted to point that out.

EDIT: I forgot that the Into the Steam characters also start the game with a general talent.

But the main goal of RPGs is to have fun, so as long as your fatemaster can adjust the power of the campaign to make it a fun challenge to the players, then house rules are perfectly fine.

That´s the point Aaron, I don´t want to create stuff in order to boost Fated Almanac Pursuits but to give a changes to the players that pick that Pursuits in feel the essence of that. I agree with Moxypoo as the fun of the main of an RPG and think that is a good thing that the players know about their Pursuit "feeling" sooner.

Scott, about your ideas:

-Academic: that´s pretty similar to a Toolkit (+ to a skil) and academics already have one as starting equipment so maybe is too much.

-Performer: a fan base is maybe a great resource and undefined. But I think that might be ok just a single contact. And you should give information about that one (who is, why you know, is your relationship nice or is more like a boss-employee thing?...). The contact will be an NPC not to powerfull (maybe a malifaux child, a drunk miner that is in love wih you.. or even just your drug dealer).

-Drudge: I like where are you pointing but we should work on it because I wouldn´t like "oh yeah... I do this for my loved daughter" explaining everything

-Gunslinger: like it! In Final Fantasy series there is an ability called "Libra" that allows you to know about the enemies. My only problem with Squint is that Mercenary and Wastrel could fit in in too, but eih! maybe that´s not a problem at all.

-Dabbler: i dont like it, but I don´t know better stuff to do :(

So I think that overall are nice ideas, I gonna work a bit in theese ones and the others Pursuits, cheking with Into The Steam.
