Hi guys, I just picked up the starter set along with lynch and lilith crews. I also have lucius' crew as I play a little bit of guild. Just wondering if there were any good combos or any tips you guys could give me please. Got my first game with them on Sunday. Are there any models I desperately need to add to what I have or can I get by for now?

Cheers!

You can get by with what you have, particularly if running Lynch (Lucius does pretty well piloting Lynch's crew as well). What I think you could really use is the Beckoners box for movement tricks and Brilliance. Lilitu does something similar but is less useful with Lucius.

In the future 2 Illuminated and a Beckoner can be the backbone of a lot of crews, the second Beckoner can be useful also but it's a bit more specialised. With Lilith I'd say having another heavy hitting model would be nice (Teddy, Mature Nephilim and the like) but she can take a fair mix of everything as well. Lynch is also pretty universal since himself and Hungering Darkness both provide and feed off Brilliance, but Lucius is more specialised as you have to make a good chunk of your list from Minions in order for him to do anything.

Waldgeist, doppleghanger, mr graves, nekima and primordial magic.

These are all good additions. Any big beatstick could take the place of Nekima in my book, and if you're getting Graves definitely check out Tannen for ruining your opponent's hand. A box of The Depleted would also be worth looking into, they're like the opposite of Terror Tots and work well with all your masters. Who have pleasantly alliterative names, by the way. :)

Nekima is far better than the other beaters, in my experience. Access to soul stones is huge.

And she hunts 4 wd models like a boss (15" threat range with flight and no LOS required...).

Your talking about moving Nekima twice and getting 1 swing with her Mi Expert. I find such a move is not that useful. I find her Soulstone use is mostly to prevent damage which will cause her to eat through your stone allotment really quick especially if you run her with another henchmen or upfront leader.

If your looking for a similar model for fighting I like the Mature Nephilim, a little cheaper and with Retribution's Eye his min of 4 will ignore armor which tends to halt Nekima's kill feast. I also like the Mature Nephilim for Charge Through. It is hard to go wrong with either the Mature Nephilim or Nekima as they are very similar in there attack and damage.

I also like any model with a min of 3 for Retribution's Eye so it works on Graves as well.

I love Young Nephilim for movement and the possibility of getting multiple attacks with a ram.

I tend to take Lelu or Lilitu a lot as well with Lilith.

If your planning on running Lynch get some depleted, they make for good cheap tarpit models.

Obviously, 1 attack is worse than 3 :)

In all seriousness, this is actually really meta dependent. We usually have as many as 5 ht3 blocking terrain pieces on our boards, so in our meta, Nekima can often land herself somewhere she can whack a minion while being out of LoS from the nasties. On a warmahordes board, this would be suicide!

As far SS use, it can also be meta dependent. Stoning for :+fate is huge against anything that causes :-fate , like Cassandra, Yin, and Francisco.

Good stuff. And reminds me to make it clear that while I love my Nekima, and think she's the best pure high-cost beater in the game (best high-cost model goes to Ashes and Dust, imo), it's not like Mature Nephilim is necessarily worse. I'd bet he's better on a warmahordes table vs. Arcanists, for instance, where Charge Through and Retribution's Eye can shine.

First a small point of contention: the Mature Nephilim naturally has a plus flip to his attack so he is probably better vs Cassandra, Yin, and Francisco then spending a stone.

As far as meta dependent, you are very correct, one of the best thing a new player can do is not down common models, masters, faction and type of terrain is used in their games and games they watch. If you find a common trend then this is the meta of your area. Then what you do is figure out if you are going to fallow the trend or use the meta to brake the trend.

Example: about a year ago my LGS meta was big into armor especial armor 2 or higher. I could fallow suit, which many did including a guy who did an armor 4 Izamu, or I could figure out how to go anti the trend and use the meta against the people. I ended up going anti the trend by taking Retribution's Eye on a Mature Nephilim and one time a player even mocked the model and use till  turn 2 with his Ashen Core was dead and Lazarus was nearly dead now fighting that same Mature Nephilim.
