Bumpasses
Can totems like Luna, who is a minion, be taken as a minion? So McCabe would have kamaitachi as his totem, but Luna would be in his crew as a 4ss minion. (No rule book access at the moment.) SpiralngCadavr
Nope, totems say if you can take multiple of the same (ex: Mechanical Doves, Hollow Waifs), but I don't believe any currently allows more than one type. Like Masters, they're mutually exclusive. Unlike Masters, it's a keyword like "Undead," rather than one of the ranks (there are totems which are peons, minions, enforcers, and henchmen). Phinn
Malifaux 2E Rules Manual - page 65 - Totem Totems are emblems of a Master’s power on the battlefield. A Totem only takes the field when beckoned by its Master. A Crew may only hire one model with the Totem characteristic. In addition, some Totem characteristics list a Master, such as Totem (Rasputina). Only Crews lead by the listed Master may hire these Totem models. Some totems have Ability that allows you to field more than one. E.G.: Young LaCroix' (Ophelia's Totem) Ability Role Model: A Crew may hire up to 3 of this model. Hateful Darkblack
Totem and Peon are different things, though they often overlap. There are non-Totem Peons (Malifaux Rat, Pigapult) and plenty of non-Peon Totems. There's an Enforcer Totem (Karina) and even a Henchman Totem (Huggy). You can only hire one Totem unless you have an ability that says otherwise.
MasterDisaster
Often if you have one type of totem and are able to summon another (Hamelin and Dreamer are examples of this) then once the 2nd type is summoned the original is usually destroyed. Example Hamelin hires the Malifaux Child and on his first activation uses "Lure Malifaux Citizen" which states "Summon one The Stolen into base contact with this model and then sacrifice all friendly non-The Stolen Totems." This means once The Stolen is is play the Malifaux Child is sacrificed and removed from the game.
