  1. Good to see I'm not the only one who read it that way.
  2. To add to what's been said, Faction only comes into play if you want to reach outside your Keyword. Keyword trumps Faction. You can hire any Keyword model at cost, regardless of Faction, and your declared Faction has no effect on which Keyword models you can take. If you want to go outside your Keyword, you can only pick models in your declared Faction. Purchased/hired upgrades must come from your declared Faction.
  3. Are you Reva players finding the revised Graveyard Spirit to be of any use? I don't have it yet, and I don't really like the model, but if it's a must-run...what do you think?
  4. Your friend needs to follow the official rulebook, unless the two of you agree to play a beta-rules game. If they won't play fair, you're free to play with other friends
  5. I don't think that's correct. Diving Charge allows a model to "ignore terrain while moving," but only during a charge. This would seem like it allows the model to meet the beta rule's conditional, "if a model ignores terrain while moving," except for the bit at the end about walks only. Diving Charge lets you ignore terrain while moving during a charge. If you ignore terrain while moving, you can climb for free during a walk. Diving Charge isn't a walk, so you can't climb for free. Diving Charge still doesn't allow you to meet this criteria. It gives a model the characteristic of ignoring terrain during that charge, but the free climb only applied to walk actions. You could progress horizontally through obstacles in your path, but that's it. I think you're being a bit too generous in your application of Specific-Over-General here, and were likely misusing Diving Charge during the beta phase. The rule that Diving Charge breaks is the one where usually, models cannot ignore terrain while pushing. Anyways, none of this matters because the rule is gone. Flavor-wise, I've always interpreted Diving Charge as leaping towards your opponent. But the through-walls thing does stick out as weird, you're right about that.
  6. Charges aren't walks, so that rule wouldn't have applied to Diving Charge. The beta rule only lets you climb for free if you're walking. Or through Severe/Hazardous terrain as well. It still seems pretty useful.
  7. So the discarding is considered part of the effect? I was looking at two distinct stages -- discard a card, gain an effect -- which is why I thought Fading would trigger immediately. Anyways, thanks all for your input. At this point, I'll go with the moderator's take, and hopefully we get an official ruling sometime as well. Thanks again! EDIT: As a parting gift, enjoy this song that's been popping into my head every single time I read or think about that Crooligan ability.
  8. I don't mean to be dense, and I'm sorry if I am, but I don't understand why these are different. The Flurry effect takes place after the previous melee attack Action is resolved, sure, but that has nothing to do with the discard timing. For RRs and Archie and their Flurry, we're beginning at a point in time after the previous Action has already been resolved. In both cases, for Flurry and By Your Side, the discard is part of the Ability, and it's written the same -- "...it may discard a card to...". What's doing my head in is why you guys feel that in one case, you can hold off on the Fading, but in the other case, it kicks in right when you discard, when the language of both Abilities is the same. "Discard a card to do X". I don't necessarily disagree with you, and from a gameplay perspective, I'd prefer for the Crooligan's Fading to occur after the move, so you can set them up for marker removal by positioning their anchor pieces effectively. In any case, I'd really like to see an official ruling here, since so far in this thread, I've gotten three different takes: for Crooligans, Fading happens after the BYS Place, before it, or player's choice.
  9. I guess I just don't understand why a place would be treated differently than an attack. They're both things that happen after you discard, so I feel like the same reading should apply to both. You discard, then perform a follow-up—we just need to know with 100% certainty where to apply the Fading effect. If Kyle or somebody could weigh in here with an official take, that would be grand
  10. I feel like this is the correct reading, but can you support it with a quote from the rulebook?
  11. I'd want to wait until the official releases come out. I play Res and am also wondering if McMourning is getting a new box, since we haven't seen anything yet from him. Feels like I've got enough learning to do with the masters I already have before I start proxying as new ones!
  12. I've barely begun to understand how to play my most recently-purchased master. Onward and upward!
  13. The digital card packs even include special cards for them!
  14. New player confusion is a legit point, and could be addressed with a page indicating which masters are fully available, and which ones are pending. New players are in a bit of a weird spot in general now, since Faction Packs aren't really going to help them, and they can only get two 3E masters now. Seems like there's going to be a couple months of waiting until 3E is properly ready for newcomers. The tournament griping, on the other hand, I don't think that matters at all.
  15. Hard to understand why this is such an issue for so many of you. The "missing" models aren't out yet. You know they exist, because Wyrd was nice enough to let us beta-test the game. Otherwise, those models aren't yet part of the official game. If you simply must join a 3E tournament in the next few months, you'll just have to make do with one of the many, many masters whose full lineup is out. Lucius and Nekima can wait a few months. In the immortal words of Arnold in Kindergarten Cop... stop whining.
  16. Am I also correct in reading that you can keep Focus until you need it? It doesn't go away at the end of the Turn, right?
  17. Yes, I was just wondering if you could stop drop and roll
  18. Or is your only option to have another model perform an assist? There's no mention of the Burning condition going up or down on its own. For reference:
  19. That's one and one so far I'm inclined to read it your way, as I am with other Fading abilities. The Fading effect happens as you discard, then you continue ahead.
  20. That's coming from the Sequential Effects bit in the rulebook?
  21. If a Crooligan uses By Your Side, they discard a card and then place. The Crooligan's Fading ability lets them remove a marker within 2" after discarding a card. My question is: when using By Your Side, does the Fading ability kick in from the Crooligan's starting location, or from their new location? I'm not sure when to apply Fading. Thanks!
  22. Can someone link to the general thread? I can't find it. Thanks!
  23. Assuming that you plan to buy the 3E card pack, try and pick up a discounted 2E Carrion Emissary if you can. The 3E version comes with the Effigy. If you plan to use Asura Roten, make sure you get the Mindless Zombies! And if you haven't already based her with the two zombies in her box, you can just use them as your Corpse Candles.
