  1. I put my Sandeep crew together today and undercoated them.

So whats the verdict thus far? What does his crew look like normally? What is the theoryfaux at the moment about him?

Im thinking about a gunline of oxfordian mages with the captain and some wind gamin to run schemes. I would be very interested to hear others ideas

  2. Cheers for the replies. I am really unsure about my next purchase. I really would love to stay in M&SU theme but I dont know. I cant the emissary until october/November, ill grab it then.

What would you recommend for the next purchase?

  3. Cheers for the replies

@admiralvorkraft thank you for the kind offer but i bought the box anyways lol

I decided to buy the box. Im using the metal Ramos because its a nice model and some of the spiders. Using the placcy Joss, Howard, Brass spider and the little spiders.

On the subject of spiders I have built 9 individual spiders and one base of swarm. Do I need anymore or is this enough?

@Mrbedlam I second your suggestion a Ramos sticky is very much needed!!!

  4. Thank for the replies guys...

@Gnomezilla Maybe I will trade the Shenlong crew away, i really love the ten thunders aesthetigue though...perhaps Mei Feng would be more straight forward a master for them?

@Ludvig Ulix is one i really enjoy and will play loads of but the local meta is quite gremlin heavy at the moment and he will be my just for fun master

@Jafar Im thinking Lady J could be a go as well as Perdita. I think you may be right about trading. Perhaps I could trade some of my crews for more suitable ones!

  5. Righto- I love Malifaux been playing for a couple of months only and I have spent so much money im amazed! :)

I have almost the entire Resser faction , Ramos, Colette and Marcus, Shenlong, Pandora, Perdita, Lady Justice,  Ulix and Somer.

My first master was Nicodem and I love him. His story, the model and the whole necromancer thing. problem is that I am crap at playing him even though I enjoy it. I think I fall into the summoning trap with him and not really knowing what is best to start on the field with him and then best summons. Last night I had crap  hand which meant my summoning was pretty thin and  Nico ended up being red joker/dumb lucked by Rami and squished. Now whilst I own all of them except Tara the other matsers don't appeal to me I don't know why. Seamus looks cool but I am more of a reactive player. (euphemism for tactically challenged) I need a master who is straight forward and not a ton of decisions need to be made with them. Out of all the masters I own I have only used Nicodem, Yan Lo, Perdita and Ulix. I enjoyed them all but I felt like I was a bit lost at times.

So whats my point? I prefer to react to an enemy and I like to have really tanky guys that can hit hard when needed. I played dwarfs in any system where they existed, I love the aesthetic of the dour, grim tanks.

Now rather than spend too much money and release the Ikyro that is my wife (already released once when the credit card statement hit, wasn't pretty) I would like some guidance on what masters to avoid given my preferences and what masters may be good for me.

  6. So I picked up the old Ramos metal crew plus a blister of spiders. I have a few questions;

Seeing as it is the old box I don't have Joss. Can I live without him? Who can I get in box by themselves that can cover his role or something similar?

What should my next few purchases be?

  7. My main concern with netlists is that it gets pretty friggin boring playing the same list over and over. Having said that as a new player of a few months I have asked that dreaded question about a list in my early days and was quickly told they don't exist. This can be overwhelming to a new player, so many options etc. I am a firm believer in taking a limited pool of figures that I know and am confident in using. I like themey lists and really dislike taking model x because you should. At the same time I know that means I wont be ultra competitive.

I prefer to take models I like the look of rather than what's the most effective if those intersect then happy days. I made the mistake of buying models that I was told were the bees knees and a must take only to not enjoy them because I didn't like the model or conversely not taking a model that I like because it is suboptimal. Prime example is Santiago, everyone says he is not an optimal choice but bugger it I want as many Ortega's in my list as I can and I love the sculpt! I bought Iggy and Insidious madness for my Pandora crew because everyone said they were great, crew is still unassembled on the shelf because I am not inspired to use it.

I have an idea for a Shenlong list I am going to try which doesn't take the recommended picks just because I like the models. Shenlong, Yu, Izamu (using Genbu the tortoise), Mr Graves, Shadow effigy and 2 Komainu. I love every single model. I have ideas and plans for every type of scheme and strat and while it wont be really utra competitive I will have fun.

The other thing is when faced by the ultra abusive lists I know I will lose so I just set myself little goals and try to survive the battle while killing a few of my opponents. I don't care about winning tournaments, I never will even though it would be cool. Im just not that competent a player that "gets" the synergies on my own. I rely on discussion with opponents, friends and forums like this one to help hone my basic game.

So to answer the original question fixed lists-ok by me but netlists get pretty boring and in many cases unenjoyable for one player. My biggest gripe in Malifaux as a newbie is that I feel like everyone wants to noob stomp without a thought for the consequences. Lucky for me I have thick skin and like this game a lot otherwise I would have walked away after all the gotcha moments and destruction. Its not fun being beaten by a gimmick you had no idea about rather than true skill. I have faced Sonnia with papa box and it wasn't pretty and I didn't enjoy the game as I was just removing models. Sure taught me a few lessons but some softer opponents of similar skill level and /or attitude to the game would be a better experience. Sorry for the rambling rant.
