Countdown to GenCon Tournament! Dragon's Lair Houston North is hosting a Gaining Grounds 2017 tournament on August 12th that is the perfect chance to get in some last minute practice before you take your crew to the big times! Not going to GenCon? You should still come out and get in a whole day of Malifaux fun! This event will be a three round, 50 Soulstone tournament utilizing the Gaining Grounds 2017 rules. All models must be assembled but the painting requirement is waived for this tournament.All proxies and conversions must be approved prior to the event. Registration will begin at 11:00 AM. Round 1 will begin as close to 12:00 PM as possible. This tournament will be utilizing the schemes and strategies from the Gaining Ground 2017 packet, so if you are not already familiar with that you may find it here. The painting requirement will be waived for this tournament. Prize support and raffle will include Store Credit, Mystery Boxes, LE Models, LE Card, Guilders, and more! Entry fee is $10 and goes entirely to prize support.

Ran into an interesting conundrum with the interaction of Counterspell and the Resonance ability on Oxfordian Mages. Those abilities read as follows (portions italicized for emphasis): Counterspell: Enemy Ca Actions which target this model lose all suits printed in the Ca for the duration of the Action. Resonance: This model gains + Ca for each other Academic model within 3 up to a maximum of + An Oxfordian Mage with another academic nearby (which causes them to gain + to their Ca) targets Hannah (who has Counterspell) with its Elemental Bolt attack. This attack has no (or any other suits) printed in the action. Does Counterspell cause the Mage to lose the suits it gained from the Resonance ability? The read we got on this was that the suits aren't removed as the s are not "printed in the Ca." To further this argument, I call attention to the Nether Flux ability which Hannah also has: Nether Flux: Enemy models with 4 of Hannah ignore any suits associated with their Ca, Sh, and Ml stats. The wording "ignore any suits associated with their Ca, Sh, and Ml stats" reads to us that so long as the Mages are within 4 it would remove the s gained through Resonance (or similar abilities such as Lucid Nightmares from Daydreams or Dumber Luck from Lenny) but that so long as the Mages are outside of that 4 inches, Counterspell would not remove the s gained from Resonance as those are not "printed in the Ca."

And that is the Lazarus I've been waiting on! Looks like a legit badass!

Joss is a solid addition to a Marcus crew (or pretty much any Arcanist crew). His ability to ignore Armor, Hard to Wound, Hard to Kill, and Df triggers makes him my favorite assassin of the unkillable. If you use a Raptor to turn Joss into a beast, you can get all sorts of fun synergies with him in a Marcus crew and he becomes damn hard to put down when he has Myranda backing him up ( on Df and the ability to heal him)

Cassandra is worth the extra 2 stones--if your raptor gets picked off Cassandra is more than capable of running the schemes backfield herself.
