  1. A condition does the damage, regardless of direct or indirect, which are not game-defined terms and mean nothing. "There's really no difference to what Sonnia's condition does and a fire gamin exploding" There is a distinction: one is a Condition and one is an Ability, regardless of the mechanical effects on the game itself. This is told to you by the rules of the game, and we don't get to ignore this difference because "they do the same thing." Condition kills don't count for a crew.
  2. You cannot declare another Action while an Action is currently resolving unless allowed by a specific rule. So no, no (0) between Charge Attacks, since the Charge Action has not resolved.
  3. Yep, it's an on-board movement trick or card draw. The name can definitely throw you off, but basically it's Leve exploding out of Undead models, like a teleport, instead of coming back from the "dead" aka burial.
  4. (0) Rebirth: Target a friendly Construct or Undead model within 10". Sacrifice the target. If the target was a Construct, draw 2 cards. If the target was Undead, place this model into base contact with it before removing it. If the target had both characteristics, this model chooses which effect to apply. I believe the issue here is you trying to use this while Leve is buried. While a model is buried, it does not activate. There would be absolutely no way for Leve to use this Action while buried. 'within 10"' means within 10" of this model otherwise.
  5. Misaki is a nice master for newer players. She's fairly simple and focused - she's a master assassin and does her job well. Mei Feng starts to get a bit tricky, and Brewmaster is definitely advanced. I would HIGHLY recommend a Guild Pathfinder. They're just so useful and can summon up the much-hated Clockwork Traps. Fuhatsu and Katanaka Snipers are ace as well. Illuminated in Lynch's box are incredible melee minions. If you're going to get McCabe, a Dawn Serpent is nice as a target for Black Flash off Badge of Speed. When he comes out, the Lone Swordsman is a must buy. The Ancestors - Izamu, Toshiro, and Yin - are nice to have, but only really critical if you like Yan Lo, who is a divisive Master.
  6. I picked up a set of them - I don't feel like photocopying the book. If you're planning on photocopying, you won't need them.
  7. I haven't seen his final card - did his Df trigger make it through with the "after this model fails" wording still that makes it crazy powerful (if suit intensive)? For the Slow thing, it's 2. Justin rewrote Resting in the Blues specifically to prevent a model from healing repeatedly when it already had Slow on it. The intent is clear from the FAQ and wording.
  8. As pointed out by Dirial and Adran, this is not true. Per the rules as written and Justin's (admittedly unofficial) clarification, Auras do not require a model to be within the height, only within top-down range and LOS. Aura's Ht is only used when the Aura itself affects LOS or provides Cover. Its effects will occur on anyone above or below that meet the two required criteria.
  9. This is correct. If you're wondering why, there's an entry in the FAQ that discusses placing scheme markers over ledges and rules it illegal, since the marker is not base-to-base when placed.
  10. As specified later in the FAQ about Lynch targeting with Final Debt, Brilliance appears to be a targeting restriction only.
  11. I'm personally happy to see both my questions get answered. I know my group will be pleased to finally have resolution on these. Thanks, Justin!
  12. As stated in the new FAQ, my initial assumption was correct. Thanks everyone for participating and thanks Justin for answering that one.
  13. Everything looks awesome. As much as I wanted a male Lust, the band looks great! I just hope they're in separate boxes.
  14. That's the crux. Thanks for your well-thought-out contributions. I appreciate everyone chiming in. I think we've come to an impasse though. Always great to see a healthy debate.
  15. After the first damage is applied inside Step 5, I've already suffered damage. Then I suffer damage again, but I don't count as suffering damage until all the lines are done resolving? I'm not convinced "after ... suffers damage" means "after ... suffers ALL DAMAGE FROM THAT SOURCE". A similar illustrating example: Black Blood occurs when a model suffers damage. I 100% believe beyond a doubt that Black Blood will trigger twice in one Lightning Jump, since damage is applied twice and separately. Armor will reduce both instances of damage as well. So why are we considering both damages all of a sudden one "unit"? Why wouldn't I check for death after the first damage is applied, since that model has suffered damage and killed models are removed "immediately" ( I agree Malevolence would occur before the model is removed - I'm arguing it would happen right after the core damage track / blasts)? This timing becomes more important when used against models with "after suffering damage"-based pushes - do they escape the pulse or get trapped in it?
  16. The Damage and the pulse are parts of an Action, not an Ability. If this were two Abilities coming into conflict, the answer would be very clear from the General Timing box.
  17. ^ This. The question is, does Wong's Action continuing after apply the damage track or does an Ability with the "after ... suffers damage" occur between the damage track line and an additional Action line. No Triggers.
  18. This is a valid point (one I had forgotten) - the ruling for Safe in My Bed is in relation only to triggers (since FAQ rulings are narrow) and this discussion isn't about Triggers. Do Abilities still occur when they say? The rulebook doesn't talk at all about ability timing aside from timing conflicts. Does "after succeeding / resolving / damaging" mean something different between Triggers and Abilities? Common sense dictates abilities would still follow the defined timings, but we just come back to "after .... suffers damage" not being defined, so realistically it would happen as soon as possible. Standard ending: I'm always open to being embarrassingly wrong.
  19. Challenge Accepted! Pere from Gremlins. McMourning w/ Road Kill Scholar within 8" of Pere. Pere dies of poison at the end of the turn. Explosive Demise triggers "when this model is killed". Road Kill is as stated above. These are two abilities that may occur at different timings. If Road Kill is "when killed", the dog would come out if McMourning was the first player, then get exploded. If Pere was the first player, Pere would explode then the dog would come out. If Road Kill is "after", Pere will explode first, then the dog will come out. If "before it is removed" is the timing, it would skip all those other interactions and appear right before you remove the model from the table, no Explosive Demise. Unless my timing knowledge is completely and utterly false, which I always leave open as an option.
  20. But does it occur on "when" or "after"? First Player only comes into play when the Abilities happen at the same time. If my opponent has a "when" effect and Road Kill is "after", his or her effect will go first regardless of first player, since those abilities are not the same timing. "When" comes before "after" - it's mentioned in the FAQ for one of Sonnia's clarifications.
  21. The problem here being that "If" is not a timing, but rather a state of being (like "killed" itself). "If" holds true at any time when and after a model is killed by the Poison Condition. The only timing given in the rule is "before it (the model) is removed," which is unspecific and extremely loose.
  22. With the upcoming FAQ, I'm putting this up here in the hopes it will finally be clarified. Road Kill Scholar: If a Living or Undead model within aura 8 is killed by the Poison Condition, this model may summon one Canine Remains into base contact with that model before it is removed, no Corpse Markers are placed. What is the timing on "If"? How does this rule interact with "after / when" timings for killed? Can I just wait for all the Abilities and Triggers for killing to go off, then place the dog at my leisure right before the killed model is removed? This ability has come into a timing conflict in multiple local games.
  23. Triggers are not universally resolved after Step 5 (where the results of the Action are applied if successful). Only "after damaging / succeeding / resolving" are resolved after Step 5 because we are told so in the rulebook (pg 23, small book, "A Trigger's effect is resolved immediately unless indicated in the Trigger's description" - goes on to point out 3 specific timings). You are correct in that Triggers will resolve before Abilities, but only if they have the exact same timing step. Also gonna point out, Wong's Jump is not a Trigger - it's an Action. Malevolence is an Ability. Oversight. It should have said "When damaging" to work within the correct timing - by RAW, that trigger doesn't work at all (unless you believe it gives you the ability to go back in time and apply damage that was ignored, but that causes a lot of problems), but the RAI is clear on that one. A few Wave 1 models have timing issues (see Road Kill Scholar on McMourning's upgrade) I'm going to guess because the system was being created at the same time, but by-and-large most timings work in Wave 1.
  24. "After damaging" is explicitly pointed out as being of that exact language in the book. "after succeeding / resolving / damaging" are the only explicit timings in the book and must use that exact language. See the Dreamer "Safe in My Bed" FAQ entry for an example of a timing that uses "after .. succeeds" but does not use the "after succeeding" timing. This doesn't make sense, since, for example, if the blast triggered Black Blood, you could stone for the Black Blood damage before the pulse effect of the Jump. Stoning can be done whenever you take damage, and since this is two separate applications of damage, you could stone for each, similar to attacks with Slug or stoning for the damage track + Black Blood damage.
  25. This came up in a tournament a bit ago. Wong uses Lightning Jump targeting a Flesh Construct in base to base with Kirai. (1) Lightning Jump (Ca 7tomes / TN: 13tomes / Rst: Df / Rg: (gun icon)10): Target suffers 2/3bb/5bbb damage. This model flips a card which may not be cheated for every model within p3 of the target. All models which receive a Crow suffer 2 damage. Wong hits and flips for damage, getting severe - 5 with three blast markers. The markers are placed, and Kirai is damaged but not killed. Does Kirai use Malevolence now, or does she wait for Wong to perform the pulse damage flip in the action? Malevolence: After a friendly Living or Undead model within a6 suffers damage from an enemy Attack Action, this model may discard a Soulstone or a card to summon Ikiryo into base contact with the Attacking model. Way I ruled it: Since "After ... suffers damage" is not a timing as defined in the rulebook ("after damaging" is not the same as "after ... suffers damage"), the ability must occur at the earliest possible time, so it would happen after the damage flip / application but before the pulse damage, all inside Step 5. How do other people play it? Is there a solid counter-argument to the above (like if Justin said "after ... suffers damage" does have the same timing)?
