  1. Yep, I read the whole thing - very interesting stuff. Just wasn't sure if the base value of the severe was also arbitrary, since the values of the weak-moderates aren't and the jokers obviously have to be abstracted to an extent.
  2. For severe cards where does the +5 come from, or is that an arbitrary number to reflect their higher weight?
  3. You only do it when your model is doing the moving. If he was moving in and out that doesn't proc the terror check. Stipulations for when to take terrifying checks: Begin the activation in a Terrifying effect's range End an Action in a Terrifying effect's range Enter a Terrifying effect's range (you enter, not it comes to you) Declare a Charge targeting a model with the Terrifying Ability That's all. If he moves Jack Daw to your guys and then they activate, yes they need to check but if he keeps running around like the Boogeyman, no you don't need to check during his activation.
  4. @Math: The question here isn't how much profit they make off of selling the cards (I assume the margin on this will be low by industry standards) but rather the direct risk they introduce to their Intellectual Property by releasing the rules and models for free. Especially with Vassal or gamers who don't mind proxying. It has been repeatedly proven (thank you GW) that gamers will still pay for the updated versions of a game they love. I fully agree with your "test run" example, but it makes more business sense to only offer a subset of models as the test run. Enough so a player can determine whether they like the system or not. No need to give everything away for free - something you're promised no return on. While it's true that Wyrd doesn't only have IP, they also have tangible models any company has to be leery of giving away what amounts to trade secrets (seeing as their IP is exactly what differentiates them from the competition) for no promised return.
  5. Ryu: Sits down to type a post. Clicks "Post Quick Reply". Missile Post doesn't fire. Looks confused. ???: Um, sir. We're going to need the launch codes for that. Touch that button again and you're in trouble. Ryu: ...okay. XjS3k003.f27BebeboopDoom7, initiate launch in 5... ???: Code XjS3k003.f27BebeboopDoom7 confirmed. WAJ84jGurkittens8m.9er. Ryu: Confirmed. POST LAUNCH!
  6. If it's true that McM is going to be dual faction when 2.0 releases (I haven't listened to all the podcasts), I think it's brilliant. I loved that story in the 1.0/1.5 rulebook when he goes to meet Seamus, put a lot of character into him I think and he is obviously working for the guild there. Kind of hard to explain how he's been fighting against Lady J, Dita, and co for the past few months (in game time, since a few months is usually the timespan inbetween books) and they still "don't recognize" him though.
  7. Shh, don't point out logical fallacies! Yes, the Iron Man example was a bit ridiculous. Anyway, that post was a bit rude. It's just frustrating when people expect things, that were never promised mind you, for free just because.
  8. Let's ask questions rather than give answers then. When Microsoft comes out with Word 2015 (or 2016, whenever they feel like it...), will it be free? No. Why not, it's just an evolution for Word 2013! Iron Man 3 just came out, why isn't it free? It's just the next step after Iron Man 2! Do you now see how ridiculous your assumption sounds? If not, I'll answer it for you on behalf of the majority of replies to this thread: VERY Edit: Yes this post was a bit rude, I apologize.
  9. I really hope Hoffman is dual Guild/Arcanist. That just fits so well. Having him be pure guild with "Arcanist Ties" isn't as cool in my mind.
  10. If people are taking my arbitrary $8 sum as word of law I am both flattered and amazed - that hedge is in there for a reason. I have no knowledge of how much decks will cost and that was, indeed, an arbitrary number thrown out. The point still remains, I'd rather not see everything released as a PDF. I do agree a small subset of PDFs would be beneficial, that's what helped me switch from interested observer (bought a few models, a book, etc) and into a full Malifaux wargamer because I now knew exactly what some of the other factions brought to the table. Giving everything away for free is a bad idea though, leaves the consumer with nothing they need from you except pretty art. No thanks.
  11. That looks really good. I have no tips, just praise.
  12. Common business sense? Game gets no money = game stops to exist. Want game to exist? Give game money. Ta-da! Many of us aren't even Henchmen, this is just something they should do. Plus PDFs will get out easily and be spammed across multiple channels. Maybe release a subset of them as PDFs, like the current "v2" cards we have - but definitely not every card.
  13. While yes, V2 PDFs would be nice I am actually very opposed to that idea. Why? You're giving away everything that is currently in Malifaux for free. Wyrd will make the right call here but I'd rather pay $8 or whatever and have the game stay profitable than get Free cards that will cost me about or above $8 to print myself anyway.
  14. Logical fallacy! What if he's a HEPTA-FACTION master?! Could it be? Only time will tell! Von Hogan for supreme ruler!
  15. I have the same problem! Slightly vexing.
  16. Welcome everyone! Feel free to ask questions, the community is quite helpful!
  17. Good luck man, it's harsh. In casual games I make an effort not to take Wong against Arcanists or casters in general, he destroys anything with spells sooooo well. Sonnia + Wong is going to be a huge nightmare for casters competitively.
  18. Doesn't matter what faction (well except 10T) - take Wong. He absolutely destroys Collette. Keep him near your most important piece or two pieces and just counterspell EVERYTHING she does.
  19. Well, text doesn't always convey emotion well so no worries. I understand how the armor stack in his post, which is how all armor stacks, the question is still about inherent effects of armor. I still agree that this is the intent of RAW too, I'm just (clearly) not a fan of ambiguity - I also think it'd be cool if you got the other effects to be honest but I don't think that's the intent and isn't how we've been playing it.
  20. How likely you are to get it off depends on the board. I get a variation of it off (at least 6 shots) every single game I want to (which is most games). McCabe can pull the Riflemen around, which is extremely handy - helps get them out of melee range to take mass shots again too. Relics work like this: You have to take two. He has a list of 6 varying from 1-3ss each. The cost is taken from your cache (which is 6 to start). If you mix a couple heavy melee beaters with this crew for protection it's really, really fun (at least in my opinion) - the Executioner or Francisco for instance. Not the best at objective strategies, but McCabe himself is so useful that it's not a big deal. I usually take at least 3 clockwork traps with this list too to tie the enemy up in my firing lanes. A sample list (off the top of my head): McCabe - Badge of Speed, Invigorating Bridle - 2ss cache Drill Sergeant - 2ss (maybe higher, I forgot) Riflemen x3 - 12ss Clockwork Traps x3 - 6ss That's only 20ss and is usually the core of this crew for me.
  21. Wastrels are hands down one of, if not the, best 4 point models in the game. So yes, they're worth it and you should run them a lot of the time (they are a bit squishy though). If you want to go this route I'd recommend: McCabe Box Guild Riflemen Box Drill Sergeant If you take the relic that allows McCabe to give out reactivate (Badge of Speed or something like that...) then you can get some insane number of shots off with the Riflemen. You companion activate two of them, do the shooting thing (6 shots) then reactivate one, companion him with the other one and do it again for a total of 12 shots from 3 models. The Drill Sergeant is used to give all of these shots a + whenever possible.
  22. Pushes have to use the shortest route, so I believe it would fall - that being the shortest route.
  23. Fewest: 4 Average: 7-10 (depending on crew)
  24. In which case this ability should read "Armor value". I'm not arguing with your interpretation of what Armor is. I'm stating that the wording is ambiguous which, by definition, means there's more than one plausible interpretation. Armor has a value but the Armor from Joss' Force Field also says "This Armor cannot be ignored by any spell or ability." That caveat is tied to the Armor not to Force Field. In essence the "cannot be ignored" is baked into the Armor. And thus the semantically ambiguous use of "equal to" rather than "value of" comes into question because equal to means: "1. as great as; the same as (often followed by to or with)" Here is why that clause of "cannot be ignored" must apply to the armor. If Joss somehow gets Armor +3 before Force Field and the "cannot be ignored" applies universally to all armor then he now has Armor 3+X which all cannot be ignored. I believe all parties can agree this is not the case (if you believe that is the case we can start another conversation on the matter) This leaves us with option B that the "cannot be ignored" portion is tied to the armor, as the ability would seem to indicate, where the original Armor +3 can be ignored but the additional Armor +X cannot be ignored. How do we know Armor +X cannot be ignored? It's built into the ability. Indeed, the ability even states "This Armor cannot be ignored by any spell or ability." Despite your condescending tone concerning Armor (as if we don't all know what that is) I believe that Godlyness is correct about the intent of this ability. However, there is an ambiguity here that leaves this open to interpretation - which is never what you want in a ruleset.
  25. Nowhere in the ability does it say you gain Armor +# from the construct. It says you gain armor equal to the targets armor. Not armor value. The question then, is what does "equal to" mean. If equal to means one and the same then I still think you get all attributes of their armor that are baked in. Eitherway the wording could use clarification. I've been playing it that you only get their armor value, but that is definitely not stated anywhere in the ability.
