  1. I played 2e, until 3e came out... then moved to 3.5, then to 4e. We are now back to Pathfinder. Our one GM has pushed some for Dungone World, which is pretty neat, but different. I think 4e is a simpler model, and more fun for the long haul. Not as much fiddling with sleeping and regaining spells. No, caster casts 5 spells and is done. I like that side of things. I like 3.5 for the style of play. It is just different. They have the same name, but are very different games. Tome of Battle for 3.5 was one of the coolest books they EVER published. I'm also a huge fan of psionics. Ultimately, I just want to have fun. I think 3.5 is a little more serious game, than 4.0, but that is fine. Play what fits for you, and your group.
  2. Maybe a box of Orian show girls? Mechanical rider to grab objectives. I've read that the Blessed is good for taking objectives. But, that being said, she is kind of ugly. I do like this paint job: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/kaled100/Malifaux/bth_blessed_of_december.jpg
  3. I think it has to do with the fact that those 30% are removed from the battlefield, not necessarily killed.
  4. If the flip is ten or higher, the model was “Finished Off.” Models which have been Finished Off drop no counters upon being removed from the table. Keep track of which models have been Finished Off, as this will have an effect during the Aftermath Step.
  5. I'm hoping to move up to the North Seattle area in a few years... I can't wait to go to this con. My cards arrived on Friday, and I got to try them out, on Saturday. They look good, feel good, the suites are OBVIOUS. I can't say enough good about them. Thank you.
  6. I am surprised no one has mentioned Rasputina. Move up an ice gamin, and then mirror through it. She has a great spell that has blasts. I used it to GREAT affect when I faced Kirai. Once I figured out to blast her spirits, and not her, it went fast.
  7. I used/use a pistol case from Walmart. For my old tau army, the figures went on the top. Under that layer, was more foam. I cut out areas to put my suites and vehicle. It worked really well, but the minis are FAR more solid than most of the Malifaux models I own. I also use this setup for my personal minis collection. They were like $7, and you could hold a bunch of minis. I would not recommend that for Malifaux. Another way of transporting Minis I have used, is with my Warmaster (GW) minis. Instead of plastic bases, they were mounted on metal bases cut the same. Then , I put a roll of craft magnets on the bottom. It has worked like a champ. I BOUGHT a Malifaux bag, but I have broken a few pieces off of minis already in it. I am thinking a nice, solid box of some sort, sheetmetal, and small magnets MAY be the way to go. (that or a metal toolbox... will have to check out Harbor Freight) Thanks for those ideas, everyone! (This is the pistol case I use: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Protector-Series-Four-Pistol-Case/16662942)
  8. I read somewhere else about Collodi. If I expand into another Neverborn master, it'll be Collodi. This article has some interesting stuff about using Insidious Madness with Lynch: http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/Insidious+Madness
  9. Here are a couple of previous threads on the topic: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?38963-Understanding-Dark-Debts-Crew-Selection http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?40234-Need-help-making-Lynch-Competitive
  10. The Patriot brush is considered a great "entry" airbrush. It is "relatively" inexpensive. I am just getting into airbrushing. I was getting one for my hirst arts molds and got a 350 (very inexpensive) but designed to put down a lot of paint. Not exactly mini material. I then picked up a 105 for painting minis, since I had the compressor. I ended up with a generic TCP style compressor WITH airtank. If you can afford it, get one with an air tank. Then your compressor isn't running ALL the time. As i was like you said, War Gamers Consortium has some good videos. Here is the playlist: http://www.youtube.com/user/WGConsortium/videos?view=46&tag_id=UChB9tRBzwbR35OBP2e9HhKw.3.wgc-airbrushing I'd start out with the introduction. It really tells you a LOT of good things about airbrushing. One other caveat. ALL airbrushes and compressors (in this range) have unique fittings. So, a Patriot (Badger) airbrush will not have the right connectors to connect to a Paasche compressor. You will need some fittings. What I am personally trying to do, is get a quick disconnect that fits the airbrush, and one that fits the line, and that can interface together. That is kind of the best of both worlds. I am hoping that I get my fittings today... but I am not holding my breath. TCP Global is painfully slow at shipping.
  11. Well, the "tourney" part ended up being one game. Not a lot showed up, but it was fun. I played Nico, and in my niativity, I took the archers over the rail crew + emberling. Willie had a BIG target painted on him, and he went in the 2nd round. Kang did well, and lasted to close to the end. Mei lasted to the end. The archers also lasted. I did a LOT of beat downs, but hard to kill was a real pain in the butt. I was running these as 10T, not Archanists. Joss is on my list, and pathfinders as well. We ended up tying. Both of us got our schemes, but no one could hold onto the treasure.
  12. I still have my BB, and my Warmaster stuff from them. I've been thinning out everything else for much the same reason. Back when I got into Warmaster, the book was like $20 or $30, and the buy in was low. They even took THAT and wrecked it. *sigh*. That is what I was referring to, when talking about the bang for your buck. It seems that the bang for the buck is VERY high with Malifaux. Inquisitor Wall: That is a brilliant way to look at GW's products. You are buying models, that are would counters. When you put it THAT way... all the sudden GW is horrible. And, I think you are right.
  13. I really think he hit it on the head. Find one you LIKE. I'd also maybe recommend trying to find a faction you like, and then find an easier to run master in it, and then branch out. I just started a few months ago. I really liked the new Ten Thunders, and really liked Rasputina. I picked up Misaki, Mei Feng and Rasputina. Then, was thikning Kaeris looked cool... and well, one thing leads to another... and I have all of the Archanists masters and all but one 10T. That is the cool, AND bad part about this game. They can play on/with each other... so you can add a few models here, a few there... and next thing you know... you own a faction. :-) Ultimately, play what looks like fun. There are a ton of different ways to play, depending on the master.
  14. So, if you put 0 as the number of models, it throws an error. :-) Honestly, that could be under works as intended. :-) I put a few placeholders in until I get the models. At least, that was my intention. I'm another one that would like to see dual-faction have something done for it. I am really more concerned with the % per model, % of models and % of stones. Maybe, you put the 10T models in under their faction and they come up "gray" or something in the 10T section? I am more concerned with the % part. :-) But, that is for a later release. It works GREAT as is, as a model tracker. Thank you VERY much.
  15. In a tourney last weekend, I was facing Nico. Mei Feng landed a bunch of blows... to have them ALL intercepted by zombies... canceling the attack. *sigh*
  16. I've generally looked at buy-in price. To buy in, and start playing, you are looking at the miniature book $15 and a starter box $30ish. Less than $50 gets you playing the game. Sure, you can spend more, but you don't HAVE to. I FEEL there is a bit more bang for the buck with Mali, as well. Each character in Mali has a discernible feel in the game. A box of figures from GW does not. As a whole, they have the same impact as 1 figure for Mali. I just hope Malifaux continues to do well, and gains more followers. Getting people out of a GW game is very difficult, because of their sunk costs. They already HAVE all those models... switching to something new... not easy to do.
  17. So, I am a pretty new player, myself. I started getting into it, late January. Here, I think, is the main question. What is your play style? My "style" is ranged shooty. I also like Magic... I went with Rasputina. I then went with Mei Feng, because I liked the 10 Thunders "story". I've picked up several masters for different styles. Mei is my more up front and beat people.. Rasputina stand back and nuke people. I hope this helps.
  18. An oiran is only 4ss. They have a nice little lure. :-)
  19. I just tried Mei, Kang, Willie, 2 archers, and orian. It worked ok, but not great against Nico. A very large number of zombies fell to their arrows. The arrows mostly cleared the way for Mei and Kang to do their dirty work. I am very new, and missed some nuances, but this was a functional crew that came up to a draw against a good opponent.
  20. I have those models. Should I drop an Archer for a 10t brother? I figured if there was a map with less cover, I'd bring an Archer or two.
  21. I don't know. Trying to be diverse, with what I have.
  22. We have a tourney coming up this weekend. I have not played much, but I have Mei Feng, and a good number of 10-T models. (though, not Metal Golem/Gamin). This list has to be good for all the different objectives: Ten Thunders Crew - 30 - Scrap Mei Feng -- 5 Pool Emberling [2ss] Kang [8ss] Oiran [4ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Willie, the Demolitionist [6ss] Ten Thunders Crew - 20 - Sideboard Ten Thunders Archer [6ss] Ten Thunders Archer [6ss] Torakage [6ss] Any recommended changes? I don't really see dipping into the sideboard, except maybe swap a rail worker for an archer or Torakage.
  23. I think the plastics THEMSELVES are resilient. I dropped several models. Had the bits been metal, they would have bent, or broken off. I just am REALLY worried about long-term survivability. I don't see it. As someone said, they do seem very fragile. I think the plastic is good. I just think more solid, and with less bits would be the way to do it. I did get frustrated putting together all the minis. The broken bits, thus far are no big deal. But, I am worried long term.
  24. Thanks for posting these. I am still debating about how to do my crews. I really like the looks of these. BTW, for 2 side lighting, try taking a sheet of aluminum foil, and crinkle it up some, and use it as a reflector. If you have some white foam board, that works well, too.
  25. I just put together Yan lo's crew, Mei Feng's crew plus izamu, Willie and the orians. Holy crap, is all I can say. The niece's flute broke, as well as one of izamu's flags. I had a very long battle with the split leg ashigaru as well. That on model is a real pain. I really worry about breakage. I do prefer metals. If wyrd would make some beefier plastics, I'd be happy as well. One trick I tried, was wrapping the thinner things. I tried my hand at hand building some rc brushless motors a few years ago, so I have some very fine metal "thread". That as well as kevlar thread seem to have strengthened the plastics. Oh. I had the goatee, and no mishaps. :-)
