  1. Agree 100%. It was simply a mistake on my part to present my argument as deductive. Alot of rules in malifaux (and games in general) require contextual inferences rather than deduction. In this case, the rule would be entirely superfluous if it didn't apply to all spells with a range of "C" because there are literally zero spells with a range of "C" that specifically state they target the caster.
  2. Unless a rules Marshall has ruled otherwise this is incorrect. RM 51 "Spells that target the caster have a range of C." One With the Night has a range of C, therefore it has a target (the caster) and can be counterspelled by Sonnia.
  3. While I agree with your decision to distract Sonnia with Bete, I believe your opponent made a serious error when he chose to activate the witchling before Sonnia when Bete popped up the first time.
  4. I have found that Sonnia's sword is her most underutilized aspect. Whether she sets up an automatic kill for Nino or the executioner by making the opponent discard a bunch of cards, or prevents a model from casting a spell at a key moment, proper use of her sword can have a huge impact on the game.
  5. Kadeton is spot on. Link only allows the model to make a push after the model it is linked to takes a walk action or ends its activation.
  6. Not for the league since we can't make it down there on a regular basis, but four of us are going to make the drive on a Saturday in a few weeks.
  7. Even if she swaps before damage is dealt there are no range restrictions on the damage portion of a duel. Range is only checked during the "Declare Target" portion of a duel. If the target is somehow moved after range is checked the rest of the duel still resolves as normal. In short, Blinding flash does not prevent the effects of a duel.
  8. Not quite. Dead and Pale don't have purposes only until their first activations. Once they gain a purpose it then lasts until the next time it activates, not the end close phase.
  9. Personally I do not think the Coryphee are worth the points outside of a showgirls list. They are really quite fragile. Their main defense is their ability to stay out of the opponent's range via swapping places with Cassandra or Colette. The mechanical rider, on the other hand, is durable, mobile, has solid damage output and only costs one more stone than a single coryphee. The Rider is quite simply a better choice in a Ramos crew.
  10. RM 12: "A model's abilities are always considered active during the game unless otherwise indicated." In this case the "unless otherwise indicated" is at the beginning of the model's activation, when the purpose changes. Nothing in the rules indicates that the ability ceases to function at the end closing phase.
  11. There is a category of people besides those who like or dislike the joker mechanics: those who neither like nor dislike them. To me the jokers are simply known variables that I must account for in my calculations. Doing cost/benefit analyses of your actions is what makes a game a game.
  12. The purposes are not effects, they are abilities. As such, they are always active.
  13. I realize your question is whether Samael or Sue is better in a Sonnia crew, but for me the question is whether either one adds enough to justify their 8 stone cost. I firmly believe they do not. Santiago is strictly better than Samael in terms of damage reliability (Paired is arguably the most powerful ability in the game other than use soulstones) and he costs one fewer stone as well. So, with Samael eliminated as an option let's see if Sue makes the cut as a support model. Guardian is the most commonly taken support model in Guild lists. It is one stone cheaper than Sue. One of the Guild's greatest strengths is its ability to put out substantial amounts of damage. The Guardian allows your high damage models to stay in the fight longer than they normally would. Sue offers Disrupt Magic, which is inconsequential considering a Sonnia crew often has two witchling stalkers, who also have the ability. He can give +2 WP in opposed duels. Unfortunately this costs (1)AP, meaning he has to activate early in the turn to gain maximum benefits for the crew, and he will fall behind the rest of the crew unless he spends his other AP on movement. Circle of Flames is also not nearly as good as it first appears. Any melee model of equivalent cost to Sue will simply take the damage then rip him to shreds. Hurt also doesn't benefit a Sonnia crew as much as some others because she isn't particularly card or suit dependent. Basically, Guardian is superior to Sue as a support model. I would also take Lucius or Witchling Handler in a support role before Sue.
  14. They stop at the wall. It is worded the way it is so that a model that is 5" away when she uses it doesn't end up 11" away. It still follows all the rules for directly away...which means stopping at the wall.
  15. Glad to see that someone agrees with me. If I could I would take 10 stones with Sonnia. SS allow you to dictate the flow of the game. When you can predict the outcome of duels with nearly absolute certainty then you have a significant advantage over your opponent. Every stone you have is one more predictable duel.
  16. 1) Yes 2) No, it is not a charge. Charge is a specific game term. Stampede is a push that gets interrupted as soon as the target is in melee range. The Stampede action does grant a + on dmg flips but only because it specifically says so, not because it counts as a charge.
  17. Not exactly...Lilitu's Twisted Thoughts reads "Target friendly neverborn model within 2" of this model." If Lilitu is not within 2" of herself then it is impossible for her to be a legal target of the ability as worded. She either is or is not within 2" of herself. She can't simultaneously be within 2" of herself for this ability and not within 2" of herself for other purposes.
  18. Your friend cannot companion Francisco in that situation. See post #27, example 4 in the thread link below. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?28162-Companion-Shenanigans/page3&highlight=companion
  19. This thread has been closed for inciting rebellion against the Guild by order of Lucius Mattheson, Governor's Secretary.
  20. Indeed you were! I should really pay more attention to what I read. Either way, the same principle applies. Blasts affect an area of the board, they do not target models.
  21. Incorrect. Pulses do not have targets, therefore their effects cannot be transferred to a marionette.
  22. I am also a fan of the Krylon grey primer. I have never had a problem with it. The coat is smooth and the nozzle is adjustable. At $4 a can it competes with and is even superior to many of the $8+ specialty gaming brands like GW. I have recently been using it at temperatures around 40° F and besides taking a few minutes longer to dry there have been no noticeable side effects.
  23. I'm a big fan of Von Schill with perdita. Having two highly mobile, difficult to kill models allows you to tailor the rest of your list to the faction you are fighting or the strategy you flip. He also has only marginal use for the masks perdita and the other ortegas like to have. I also don't like taking both Nino and Santiago with 'dita because the chances you have enough high masks to fully utilize the potential of all three models is slim to none. Adding a Watcher to a Perdita/Von Schill list enables you to pressure many or all of your objectives simultaneously. Also, I've never been a fan of Francisco. For a point less you can take a witchling stalker, which is slightly less offensive than Francisco but has much greater utility (Dispel Magic, Disrupt Magic, and a magic weapon...yeah I'm looking at you Kirai!). One thing I have not yet had the opportunity to test, but which sounds good on paper is using Abuela's shotgun wedding on an exorcist. Anyway, that's just how I play Perdita. The reason I love playing guild more than any other faction is the variety of models that can be effectively used with each master.
  24. This is an official ruling from Keltheos: "Essentially, a model inflicting damage initiates the damage resolution sequence, which is followed to the end, and then any Triggers or effects that key off “after dealing/inflicting damage” occur. So Next Target, Onslaught take effect after resolving their associated damage. Boom occurs during the damage resolution and application sequence as a consequence of the model being killed." (italics added) The "Toss" trigger occurs after the damage resolution sequence. Therefore "BOOM!" will trigger and the model will be removed from play before the "Toss" trigger occurs. As the dead model is no longer in play "Toss" will fizzle because it has no legal target. Here is a link to the ruling: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?20176-Order-of-resolution-of-triggers-(eg-Ronin-Run-Through-vs-BOOM!)&p=230593&viewfull=1#post230593
  25. Toss does not go off if the model dies. Death occurs during the damage step. Any effects that occur upon death will happen, then you check to see if the toss trigger is still legal. Since the model has already been removed from play Toss will have no effect.
