  1. In the same kind of boat timescales wise McDoogle, 1.5 weeks and no sign of the parcel despite other things turning up from other places sent 1st or 2nd class... really hoping this pans out ok as it was a good deal, was hoping for it all to come through before Christmas Luckily, if it comes to the worst i'm also in the boat of being able to get the money back through paypal as it was quite a substantial purchase for me
  2. Whilst i've nearly been screwed over by a Cherub almost actually hitting (had to cheat the red joker to avoid it), i'd still have to agree that the Primordial is still probably the better totem Still, 2 stones for 1 extra card and the chance to try to transposition Lilith, whilst not a waste, isn't that great in my opinion... i think just like Seamus and Pandora a totem is very much optional for her (unlike say Ramos or Raspy who love having a totem on the field)
  3. Fantastic reply Oddly enough my experience with a Wyrd mis-pack raised to Maelstrom was the opposite, i was told "Not our problem, you'll have to speak to Wyrd"... guess it depends on who you get and whether you mail or call them That said that's also the only issue beyond speed i've had with maelstrom and it was no where near as major a mis-pack as that
  4. OK, not really a guild player so take it with a hefty pinch of salt, but i'm not sure that guild really need mercenaries Taelor/Johan/Misaki - great for magic weapons, but Witchlings are 4pts and have them Convict - solid shooting platform... Austringers, Nino, Santiago, even Death Marshalls... all varying in cost and style but similar Killjoy - nasty jack in the box, sure guild don't have that, as most factions don't... but executioner if you can get him there will be tougher to remove Hans - Nino, Austringers, 'nuff said The only exceptions i'd personally consider short of just liking the models/theme are (not having book 3 so won't comment on TTB) - Ronin - highly mobile anti-armour Student of Conflict - handing out fast is handy if you're not bringing any of the other totems Specialist - ok, he'll cost you your special forces choice but resilient and if you're not playing Sonia/Papa Loco is a great source of blasts Desperate Merc - only because at 2ss they're dirt cheap for what they do Guild seem to have just about every option covered in faction for a decent cost and some very nice specialised pieces too
  5. Nice Well, like with PP i prefer stat cards to codexes, massively so I love the sheer force of personality that some minis have... and not always the same minis to the same people... that has been one of the things to kick my painting back in to gear I really enjoy the alternating activations and the abilities, however annoying at times that can mess with it (companion, pacify/incite) Definitely dig the small buy in cost if you're happy to just play 1-2 masters... lets face it 3 minis for £12, fine, on par really... but that's typically 1/3 of your crew which is a far more palatable way of looking at it at times and particularly compared to other systems I love some of the, albeit confusing at times, cross-faction hiring aspects of the game... i have night terrors for my ressers, but now i'm looking at both Marcus and Dreamer and i have a choice that i already know how to use well to use... and don't get me started on Zoraida in this respect And finally i absolutely LOVE the schemes/strategies approach to VP's (however balanced or not some choices might be, don't care) removing a part of the typical gamer "kill em all" or "assassinate" approach has been a welcome break
  6. Our lilith player has been having good fun with the following at 35ss Lilith (5 cache), Nekima, 3 Tots, 2 Young The tots getting masks from Nekima for insane sprints in the first turn along with Lilith earthquaking things forward gives insane speed, Nekima troubleshoots hard targets or allows tots/young to grow/mature when they need to without having to try and rush things... it may not be a net decked power list but it's good fun and still solid And despite the forum hate against her, Nekima has proven to be tricky to take out and a boon to that style of setup crew wise... particularly when Lilith can drop a forest to stop things charging her & Nekima before they rush in the following turn and double-team things with brutal results As for tots, locally (including our lilith player) thought much the same... but then he stopped throwing them blindly into the fray and sent them after objectives or isolated enemies, using sprint to get them anywhere they need to be and they started to shine... now i think he even considers 3 to be the "real" core of his lists
  7. Found the only frustrating thing about Lilith for beginners is learning how to deal with the speed and Df8 combined with use Soulstones However once you learn to target just about anything other than Df for her personally and work toward schemes without concentrating on her too much it becomes alot easier She was something of a terror locally while we all learnt to cope with her but not maligned for it like Pandora... she plays a nice straightforward kind of game that most people don't begrudge even if she has some nasty movement tricks up her sleeve and a hell of a lot of hitting power & high Df in her "standard" list
  8. Typically I paint more gritty and muted, just not a big fan of extreme highlighting/shading But like most i appreciate seeing either, part of the reason i've decided to knuckle down and get some more stuff actually finished
  9. That I'd have to argue against a bit... there's more than enough stuff online without even coming to the forums to promote pretty much the entire range of Malifaux figs including the free V2 cards for alot of book one stuff ... or a bricks and mortar store if there's one nearby... or dare i say it, you, if you're the only one going out to get more info... personally i ferry alot of info back to the gaming group about new releases and such as i seem to be the main forum browser Locally we started with the Rules Manual and have been picking up figs based on what we like, pullmyfinger and advice from the forum and we've hit absolutely no need for the other books... we've recently picked up Rising Powers which has allowed a little proxying to test new things but tbh even that's been really limited as we prefer to have cards rather than refer to the books constantly Twisted Fates is something a little different as the rules manual of course doesn't cover avatars... but we still haven't picked it up yet (that's for the new year)
  10. Centred under the model for 40mm & 50mm minis too, meaning you can only pick up counters without moving from 30mm kills
  11. I'll keep half an eye on whether the jokers have gone past that turn... and maybe half on eye on high cards for a suit i particularly need (eg tomes for Ramos, crows for Kirai/McMourning) but it's too easy to get distracted from it by the game and after all, you're not allowed to go through your discard pile to check anything so i often forget, seeing whether literally 5 cards have gone past (11, 12, 13 of a single suit, red joker & black joker) is about my limit So no, don't really count cards as such, but do keep an eye on what's been turning up if i know i need a high card of a particular suit Black Joker, i'll keep generally just for 1 turn in my hand, it removes it from the equation for 2 game turns but any longer and i don't like the potential it's taking up even if it comes back to bite me a couple of turns later
  12. So come te new year i've decided i'm going to get myself a bunch of the Sarissa Precision Western buildings to move away from what's become out fairly "standard" gaming scenery of a handful of buildings, forests, rockpiles, swamps etc What i need now is some ideas of where to get some nice and preferrably cheap fences, horse troughs, piles of supplies, barrels, cactii and the like to really flesh out a Western themed table... i've found a couple of options but figured the community would likely be able to provide me with plenty more Only stipulation is i'd rather stick to ordering from within the UK to avoid pesky customs issues and extra costs
  13. I asked this same question a while back and Nilus came back with a pretty solid explanation of how it works http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26011 It's not a marshall reply but it made sense to me It's a confusing situation but essentially regardless of how Sybelle is activating (ie being companioned or not), when she does any belles within 6" can campanion her
  14. First off i'll also say, i love Malifaux, even alot of the mechanics that bug some people (blasts, burying etc) i quite enjoy and actually prefer to other systems equivalents The jokers regardless of or i enjoy too, the idea of an otherwise really tricky shot that barely hit actually causing some pretty critical damage eg nicking an artery or causing a chain reaction in a Flamenwerfer's fuel tanks or a solid shot ending up dud or deflected adds to the feel of the game... and sure it's a pain when it goes against you but it feels great when it swings in your favour and leads to some really memorable moments The faction balance is one thing that does bug me a little... i know that if i pick Outcasts (which for me is only Freikorps) one of my regular opponents will not in their right mind pick 2 of his 3 main masters as he runs Sonnia, Raspy and Lady J and the blast immunity really hampers 2 of them... It's a nice thing in some ways as it means you get masters capable of excelling in different areas but a bad thing in others where people starting out may only want 1 master from a particular faction The only other bugbear is with the packs, normal blisters... now £9-£12 for 3 minis is a pretty good deal, but for something where you only want 1 (eg i wanted 1 Moleman not 3, or only 2 Crooked men etc) it can be a real pain trying to find others to split a pack down with, though the trading forum helps no end Now again, i can understand that in terms of stocking a bricks & mortar shop it'd be rough breaking it down into more packs, but it certainly stopped me from picking up certain things as quickly as i otherwise would have Pretty minor gripes really
  15. Astounding paintjob, almost enough to make me like the model but i just don't Love the glowing eyes, real "inner fire" feel to the paintjob
  16. Thanks, the OSL isn't actually that good unless you look at it at a distance, long way off of what some people produce Hmmm, December... well despite Christmas mayhem i'm going to try to keep the pace i got to for November of about half a dozen and even increase it if i can Already got 1 mini finished and 2 with only finishing touches to go so it should be doable even if i'm not reaching Geckilian's insane pace
  17. Very nice, have used the same method myself a few times Not quite sold on it for the stitched, though they still look good, however everything else particularly Teddy looks fantastic Quite liking the swap out to Tough Alice too, though personally i really like Dreamer
  18. Sounds like we got the same message about the cards... if it helps the last reply i got was last Thursday confirming that the cards had been ordered from Wyrd and that he had sent the minis
  19. I'm still waiting to receive minis too, but with Christmas postage levels and the increased potential for delay i feel it hasn't been an unreasonable time yet
  20. Can't help but think the copper/bronze/pinky-red glow all blend together a bit much... that said it looks good and the base is great, nicely done
  21. Jasonfly - I'll admit the motivation is a little forced at times, but it's not like i don't enjoy painting either Lovemachine - Yeah, i've lost track of how many times i've made that promise for every system i've played since i started gaming about 15years ago... and i'm almost at the point that i can field a fully painted force that i didn't receive fully painted Still, minor update time - WiP Ramos, Baby Kade & Candy Ramos still needs some work on his coat to make the shading and highlighting stand out as it just plain doesn't at the moment Kade is about finished, going to darken the knife handle but that's it Candy just needs some highlighting on her hair if i feel up to it... and yes, there's a blue/yellow theme with my neverborn wherever i can fit it in, if nothing else they're all getting yellow eyes
  22. Ah, gotcha... working from memory so the mention of stripping Morale duel immunity for being construct, spirit etc threw me off Cheers Sketch
  23. That link goes to a pasword locked page Sketch Ok, back to the way things were before with Pandora causing everything to run off with Mental Anguish And with the added bonus of now making non-living stuff take Terrifying checks by the looks of it, very interesting
  24. I'd do the following 1) Chihuahua Wracks with pain on canine +1BP 2) McMourning in melee range of Chihuahua - Wracks with pain it cheating to get Scalpel Magic trigger +2BP (1 from Wrack, 1 from melee swing) 3) Pick up corpse counter and change it (also picking up the BP the chihuahua had) +2BP 4) kill wounded dog with melee attack +1BP 5) Pick up second canine corpse and change it +2BP only need 1 dog & totem that way
