  1. I hear that GW washes are good. I use Vallejo paints, and I really like their inks, specifically black ink and sepia ink (sepia ink is like, my magic wand!). The trick to using any washes or inks from any line is to remember that using a straight ink or wash is going to be very strong and can/will undo any layering. What you'll want to do is thin out the wash depending on how strong you want it to be. I usually use a 50/50 ratio of water to ink. The more you thin out a wash the less impact it will have (obviously). If it's too thin, try adding a little more ink/wash to help bolden it a little, just be careful not to add too much. Sorry if some of this seems redundant.
  2. Ooooo, creepy! Reminds me of the abominable snowman from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer claymation movie.....that thing creeped me out
  3. I looked at a few hobby stores, Michael's, and Hobby Lobby. I didn't check hardware stores though. If you have a store that specializes in model trains then they would be likely to have it. A store near my parent's is big on trains, models, RC Cars, and more, and they had a whole big selection. You mentioned that your blacks w/greys came out looking a bit more dirty, do you do layering or drybrushing? Also, have you tried using a thinned out black ink or wash over it? I find that an ink goes a long way to smooth out the roughness I get when I paint (especially if I'm drybrushing).
  4. You two have a great time on your vacation, we'll keep painting more minis for you to look at when you get back :-)
  5. Greetings Jaslyn! I love the idea and would love to pass on some helpful hints for you. First, here's a tutorial for wooden planks [ame] [/ame] I have yet to try it out, but I have all the materials I'll need. I'm doing the bases for a friend's Collette set. I have lots of experience painting white and the biggest tip I can give is this: When you want to paint white, paint it off-white and then highlight with white. A softer white would use very light browns/cream colors, layered with increasing amounts of white. For a sharper, brighter, white use grays. A medium gray makes for a good base, followed by a light gray, and highlighted with a white. When choosing your grays make sure to avoid blueish grays as those will give a more "ghostly" feel to the color. For blacks the the trick is to always base with black or a really really dark blue. I usually use black, then dark gray, and medium gray as my base, middle, and highlight. Alternatively you can use black, dark blue, and medium blue, but that tends to be more a hair color. Currently I'm working on my own "Moulin Rouge," except it's just Seamus and his Belles (I hope to have them up later this week!). Hope the advice helps :-) Welcome to the forums and I look forward to seeing more of your work. If that's your first paint job then there is no doubt that you have natural talent.
  6. Love the paint jobs! I used to play Khador for War Machine, and became very adept at painting reds. Now that I'm switching to Cygnar I find that painting blues and getting them to pop is a bit difficult. How did you get your blues to come out so nicely? I wouldn't mind some tips on the yellows either...
  7. Well done sir! Those look astounding :-) Very high caliber job you did.
  8. You have been busy. As for Kirai in a brawl, wow, just wow. Ten Seishin? That's intense! I still have a whole host of figs to paint before I even consider moving to that level.
  9. I'm sooooo jealous now! I have some great plans for Kirai, I just gotta sit down and finish up the bases for the Onryo, Seishin, Gaki, and Shikome (how is yours coming along, by the by?)
  10. Very well done! Your skill definitely shines! I agree with DAGabriel, love those stockings!
  11. @DAGabriel: I'll have a new pic uploaded later this week/weekend. I only recently got into removing mold lines, which is kind of strange since I've been doing miniatures for over 13 years @Fetid Strumpet: Glad to hear you'll be in practice, as well as bringing others into the fold (or should I say Breach?). I am also training hard, and just got a chance to try out Seamus this past weekend. @Regnak: Thanks for the compliment! Now that you mention it I don't know that I'll ever be able to not see that Currently I'm working on the Belles from the Seamus box. I've all but finished one (just need to do some more work on her base), and I'm about halfway through on the second, the third I'm still debating on. It'll either be black skirt and purple corset, or purple skirt and black corset
  12. So I posted a picture of my The Hanged in another thread (http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21722), and it turns out you guys really got a kick out of what I did. I am usually an avid painter (though my real life job thinks I work in a Soul Stone mine) so I will use this thread to post pics. NOTE: I'm not a big forum poster, so if this thread takes a long time to load let me know and I'll see what I can do to make things easier. Nicodem Mortimer Bete Punk Zombies
  13. Thanks for all the replies! I really do like how the eyes turned out. I'm trying to get a thread started with more of my pictures linked from another site, so I'm going to test it out here with another shot of one of The Hanged
  14. That kimono looks gorgeous! It's difficult to remember the size of Kirai because of the level of detail. If I didn't know better I could swear I was looking at a real kimono :-)
  15. I asked a friend who pointed me to the fact that Wyrd lets me upload an album here :-) For now it'll do until I have time to upload full sized images later.
  16. Thanks for the compliments :-) I used a darker color, more an orange brown, and was surprised at how well it turned out. The yellow was a regular sunny yellow. I just wish I knew how to make my posts so the pic appeared in the post and didn't need to be downloaded
  17. These are my two Hanged that I finished up today. I plan on posting more later on this evening if I can stop painting Bete and get my camera out again. If the pic isn't good enough I can take another. I just snapped this on my phone but it came out so good I had to share.
  18. I just got a Miss Pack in my Seamus box, so now I kinda want Miss Pack as my avatar cause opening that and seeing her there was a pretty exciting moment
  19. Punk zombies would be fitting Also Necropunks....Anything? Nicodem is what got me into Malifaux, along with Kirai, so stuff that sinks up with them would be good. Actually, any of it would be good, the miniatures are all so beautiful!
  20. Is it too late to vote? Can I cast mine in? 1.) Nicodem 2.) Bete Noir 3.) Jack Daw
  21. Guild is one of the ones I'm looking at, that and Neverborn was already claimed by a friend of mine
  22. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any good sculpting tutorials. I haven't done anything (well I have, but its a nightmare in and of itself, done with practically no knowledge of sculpting, and I have plans to use it for a Mindless Zombie) with sculpting in the past. My primary goal is to make custom bases with the occasional addition/modification to miniatures. Any help is appreciated
  23. Thanks! I didn't get a chance to sit and eat with any of you guys, but I brought McDonalds to somebody on Saturday night. Its good to be here, and my first faction is going to be The Resurrectionists, though I don't know who will be second (yes, I'm already planning ahead).
  24. Hi all, I got to meet some of you at Adepticon, I even got a quick meal for one of you Saturday night. I was wanting to say hi and I look forward to being apart of the community
  25. Hello, I am Mydnight. A friend of mine recently got into this game and has drug me along for the ride. I'm loving the storyline so far and hope to spend some time painting later this week. I paint far more than I play, so if you see me at a tournament it'll probably be from the lower echelons, which makes The Resurrectionists a great starting point for me (when you're that low you can only rise up!). I hope to start contributing to the painting forurm once I get some proper Wyrd miniatures painted
