  1. Given the choice of Fire gamin or Rail workers, I prefer the rail workers, For gamin are just too fragile in my opinion. They are easy to take out, the rail workers have more life, hit harder, and while have less armor by default, can have more armor with the trigger. Fire gamin are meant to get into melee and blow up, which is not Mei feng friendly. I hadn't tried it with metal gamin, it should fit the bill.
  2. I would say its doableinanarcanist list, but in a TT crew you need constructs to benefit from rail walk. In theory you can use a trapper and the traps, but I would think you would be limited. Personally I don't see a loss by not using fire tokens (assuming no rail golem). I was thinking of using a single trap in conjunction with Torokage. Use the from the shadows on the trap to deploy deep. Use the 2 action to bury the Torokage. Next turn torokage switch locations with any model. Personally I was to see this done with Hans, just make him work. If he is in a good snipping position before he activates turn 2 he is usable.
  3. I played a crew with him in outcast and took 4 desp mercs, used the 1 DMG pulse on turn 1 to prep them. Also I found the best 1 hot model to take with him is Rami. Played those 2 inaresserarmywithcrooked men, made opponent walk into the cave in markers. As for guild I would avoid the perdita crew since you want the masks for him not perdita.
  4. If I were you I would either go misaki or Viki, just because they can share a lot of models. So if/when expand you are able to expand you can mix and match minions. Lilith is then odd person of you choices
  5. I really liked mathew Woordring stovers 'Heroes Die'. Part sci-fi part fantasy. Its much simpler than game of thrones, but I really liked it. There is a second book to it Blade Tyshelle. Not as good but not bad. Another book I liked is 'A fire upon the deep' by Vernor Vinge. Its the complex story line like game of throne with lots of characters, but its a sci-fi setting. 'Deepness in the sky' also good, but I preferred Deepness in the sky. Another series I liked was SM Sterling 'Island in the sea of time'. its a what would happen book if the Island of Nantucket was teleported back in time 2000 years. After that Its there is no sci-fi at all and how people adapt and recreate a civilization.
  6. Nope, needs to be living, You can reactivate ashes & dust with Rusty Alice though. As for the ruling about being able to Shrug off the sacrifice portion of massive does. You can't Shrug off the Sacrifice and keep the boost. But you can Shrug off all the effects of massive Dose AFTER you use the boost effects. For example, you can Massive Dose Sue and give him reactivate and sacrifice him at end of turn. Activate him once, then reactivate him. On his second activation doe 2 AP normally then use shrug off (0) and remove all the effects of Massive Dose. Losing the reactivate & the sacrifice portion of the spell. For Game play purposes I always do the shrug off last. Rules wise I don't know what happens if you do the Shrug off before you use the AP on you reactivation turn. For the other Massive does effects its easy.
  7. I like the nurse iin a McM or Seamus crew to sped up manifesting, by addingbert and Gracie in the crew you get the nurse to reactivate Bert, Gracie moves him up and Bert then does his his thing. Really good and worth it.
  8. Rotten belles and convicted gunslinger Nurse with either McTavish or Sue (shrug off the reactivate death) Rusty Alice and ashes and dust (reactivate and self sacrifice)
  9. 1) How much are you guys willing to spend on your board and the terrain on it? I find if you can make packs under 30$ people will pick them up a little at a time. A full table may be more but some will not buy a full table in one shot. 2) What has more value, the quality (i.e. plastic/resin modelled terrain) or the quantity (card/wooden such as Terraclips)? I'm moving to a higher quality than cardboard. and like Resin accessories. 3) Do you consider it a big bonus for terrain to have a high level of modularity and/or storability? Definitively, this is the main reason why I don't have large building. While they look great I can't store them. Also the shipping costs really increases the costs. Also modular lets you keep the price point under 30$ per unit. As long as each unit is usable seperately 4) Is your attitude to painting terrain or buying prepainted sets any different to your opinion regarding miniatures, and what is that opinion? I think it should be playable out of the box, but easily touched up to look better. 5) Does your experience with terrain have much effect on your hobby, e.g. "I chose to start/ignore game X based on the terrain I have access to" not completely A couple other notes for you I Love Zuzzy Mats, they are the right price, easily storable. not too hard to paint. I made a pile of crates for malifaux, and my LGS uses them all the time in WM/H, Dust, Mercs. Unless you plan on doing something different with lazercut building, I would avoid them. there is already a couple on the market and once kickstarter is over its word of mouth, and what can make to LGS shelves that will keep the market. So far I never saw any lazercut building make it to any of the LGS in montreal. lastly the theme, I would avoid or make any logos, or excess style optional. Look at 40K terrain. Skulls everywhere. I personally find it excessive. It it was downplayed a little I might have picked some of it up.
  10. I'm not totally familiar with Marcus but what I've seen of him does not impress me, but I have to say again, I have not seen him much. Colette is a master that has a lot of shenanigans, with the Orinia (typo?) her model selection has grown to allow for more model selection and still keep her synergy options. The Orinia are an outcast merc but also a showgirl. Colette, Doves, corphee, and orinai are a good. there is one more model, Angelica but I only played it twice I think, and then left her in the box. This crew has lots of mobility and disrupt ability. The disappearing act trigger is Really strong, but if you rely on it and it doesn't work twice in a game I find you tend be on the defense and SS short. Mei Feng, is a nice change for Arcahnist, She is mobile & hits like a freight train. Arcanist needed a good melee machine in their selection. Her box set is solid start of a crew. I would add the Mechanical rider, and a couple LSA for a solid crew. My biggest beef with teh choices mentioned above is that they don't mix and match models. If you are looking for a couple master that have different ways of playing but use the same models I would aim for Mei feng & Ramos. I would start with the following. Mei feng box Ramos Blister aRamos (comes with 3 arachnids) blister of arachnids (making total of 6 to magnetize) 2x LSA Mechanical rider Electrical creation Mobile toolkit This give you 2 crews with ability to mix and match models easily. The Colette crew is very good, but models tend to be only for her. If you have you heart set on Marcus, I would consider picking up Zoraida as a second master since most beasts are neverbourn of Wp4 or less and usable with her.
  11. Having a few chase models are nice to have. It builds interest and something for gamers to hunt for. I just wish they were a way for us to get them for prise support. As long as they don't make them have different rules or abilities from normal models I like them.as an ex-wizkids gamer I can tell you models that have different abilities from the base game breaks the game.
  12. For totems I prefer the chihuahua, he usually getsgilled turn 1 and turned into a flesh construct. As for sumoning, I found that if playing the avatar I want 2 flesh constructs, if playing without the avatar I want to summon the rogue necromancy instead. As for hired crew members, mortimer was always in my early crew, but i found he was worth 2 corps tokens and a model to breakthrew. I larned to drop him for more offensive stuff. Now i like the nurse alot. Put it with mctavish, and he can shrug off the massive does after getting the reactivate, making him get lots of actions. Also when he dies he drops 3 corpse counters to fuel McMourning. Another option for the nurse is the necropunks, who can easily grab objectives when massive doesed, the leap makes there range really go a long way, great for deliver a message. I also like dead doxies and belles. They don't compete for the same suits as McMourning
  13. If you combo Ophelia & Rami you can get a little over 24 inches before rami activates.
  14. my favorite crew with her is Arcanists Crew - 35 - Scrap Mei Feng -- 8 Pool Large Steampunk Arachnid [5ss] Large Steampunk Arachnid [5ss] Mechanical Rider [8ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Steampunk Arachnid [3ss] A good second option is teh Rail golem crew, I like the following. Arcanists Crew - 35 - Scrap Mei Feng -- 8 Pool Emberling [2ss] Gunsmith [6ss] Rail Golem [9ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Rail Worker [5ss] Rail Worker [5ss] FYI, a burning token is really good simple way of giving the Gunsmith 1 DMG.
  15. Painting is either something you will either love or hate. Also a good color scheme is essential, probably more important than skill. I've seen some paint jobs that are done skillfully, but bad colors made it unattractive. As a complete new person to painting, I would start with a white primer and ink. Just to have the models assembled and looking decent. Even if you just assemble them and ink the bare metal, the models are much more interesting to look at and you can tell when something is from across the table. This will be appreciated by your opponent and let you get into painting at the speed you want rather than rushing and not being happy with your own paint jobs. As for Paints, I do like Citadel paints, The new series they came out with are good for models like malifaux where the details are not over abundant, and more textured (fabric flowing). Each of the New paints have a new classification for their type. Base: this is a solid paint that will evenly cover any surface, not much to say. Layer: this paint is a thin paint and will thin out on higher areas, and gather in the deeper spots. Looks great on Muscules and cloth. Ink: this is a clear tint that is thinner than the layer, used over the base color to enhance the texture of the model. The Mud color will be you favorite, trust me. Dry: is a putty like substance, ment to get just a little on you brush for dry brushing. You only really need one of these, which will be a Bone or Stone grey color.
  16. I'm not entirely sure that is correct. I know you can kill yourself with Dumb Luck or Pierre Ravage blowing himself up. The reasoning for that is you can't kill your self if the COST will kill you, but you can kill yourself if the EFFECT will kill you. The primary question now is with Calculated Luck is the one dmg a cost or effect. For example, you cannot kill yourself with reckless, since you need to do one damage to gain fast and the damage is a part of the cost. Unfortunalty I don't have the book in front of me to double check the wording on Calculated Luck. I'm Sure about Pierre ravage and Dumb luck being okay to kill themselves.
  17. FYI guys, if you have a vikis lead crew taking hamelin does not let you take Ophelia or any gremlin. Vikis hiring restriction trumps hamelins
  18. I found its not as common in our regular weekly gaming nights, but when I run a tournament I found it has a higher turn out than before. Before had our usual group weekly group of players just play in the the tournament. Now I have twice as many people for tournaments as we did before when we saw it played every week. I think its just a lack of organized gameplay.
  19. I don't think they will make one. Just because outcast (IMO) are an coalition of groups that fall under the outcast title. Having an Outcast master without lots of retriction breaks to many of the build rules. Right now if you have Somer and Vikis in a brawl you can take all outcasts reguardless of theme. I think they will keep making Misaki style outcast masters where she can take certain outcasts easily, without being outcast themselves. I'm predicting outcasts are going to be just gremlins and Mercs moving forward, with just a couple Soulless/undead/hamelin style models just to stop people from complaining. You can already see they are merging Mercs and Gremlins with McTavish, Bert, Gracie & Wong. I would also guess that some Mercs are going to move to TT in the future. I personally don't have an issue with this, I would be disgruntled if gremlins were dropped. Mercs I found are rarely kept as a favorite crew because of their lack of synergy.
  20. I don't think we can give specifics, but a couple generalities. If I'm over line please delete this post. He basically can earn body parts like McMourning and can summon more than 1 mindless zombies or he can summon more than 1 guild autopsy. Basic strategy with home is to accumulate body parts then late game do a las summon for an all action and a high suited card tongiveyou more body count. Remember guild autopsies are not insignificant. Has also has an ability that gives him body parts when some else uses corpse counters near him. While he does have reckless he has something similar. Lastly he has short ranged ranged attack that is a little situational. In a nicodem crew he really shines because of a synergy. With seamus is descent because he is the main corpse user of team, and not fighting with master. As for McMourning I found him not worth itbecuase he needs to share corpse with McM. Not worth talking with kirai because of lack of corpse counters in crew and no synergy. I have not really thought about the new guys but I think he has potential because Tan lo doesn't user corpse counters.
  21. if you are not using them with Kaeris, try using them with a Rail worker. Turn 1 giving them a burning token is a really easy way of giving them 1 dmg. While then don't synergies with other masters well, I find they fill a hole that arcanists had in range models. With 5 wlk he is fairly fast in relation to other Arcanist models. Excelent in doing some solo hunting on models that are hiding for objectives.
  22. Witching stalkers are the best cheap model to take. With effectively a 3 dmg on a weak (after trigger) you still do decent damage with a weak hit on Hard to Wound models. Also our LGS ruled that the 2 damage from them blowing up happens before you heal which with Mcmourning, which had made a difference in a couple games(His ability sais "after". Also if he is playing Bette Noire the aura makes it really hard for her to do her slow to die trick.
  23. I don't think a v2 is required. And as for balancing the game, I found during the last play test they took the feedback seriously. I'm in heavy gaming area and many of us have Been in beta tests before with other games and those beta tests feedbacks were completely ignored. I can confirm that some of the changes my group sent back were incorporated. In general I think after the Hamelin errata was done, the game is balancing quite well. There will always be a bit of a power creep in any game but Wyrd has been doing what it can to slow it. FYI: then original McCabe was so broken that on turn 2 my friend ripped apart an archer and then Misaki who was full health and defensive stance in a forest with 8 SS. I think we added up the actions he got in one turn and it was 13 actions, from a badly worded ability and reactivate. I was expecting an onslaught but not a slaughter.
  24. I think the main reason Aetheric Demands was given to her was to stop you from taking the arcane efffidgy, which to me would make the vikis a little broken. In theory the student of conflict gives the same effect but with the arcane effidgy you would habeben able to get the extra AP and still have some mobility. After that I don't see any arcane constructs I would really take. I might take the rider or a LSA but I think Taelor or Johan are good replacements for them. But I might try them if I already had them, but not worth the extra purchase. Even without the constructs I think vanessais good for the vikis to consider an auto include. I personally want to see them destroy kirai. Vanessa attract which does 2 damage to everything in 2 inches is magical and not a pulse. So in one shot you destroy all the seshin in base contact with kirai, and she can't really stop it.
  25. Quick reminder that the next tournament is next weekend
