  1. can't see your pic... Reason # 1,234,129 Facebook is the suck.....
  2. Going to be in Reading all next week. Any LGS worth checking out while I am there?
  3. I am an absolute certified super fan of Super Clean. It strips Mini's in about a 1/4 of the time of what Simple Green took me.
  4. Dixon makes a great train we use for Deadlands Reloaded Scenarios (admittedly Santiago Ortega is my Gunslinger for the campaign) and it scales perfectly. http://www.dixon-minis.com/dixoncatalogue.php?maintype=12
  5. You mean something like an armature? http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Doll/latest/75008
  6. I really like the transitions on the robes. Well done.
  7. I really quite like your desolation engine and the freikorps' coats are well done! Nice looking set!
  8. FWIW there are always the "sweatshop" type foreign painters like PaintedFigs.com in Singapore. I have never used them but I have occasionally been tempted when looking at a mountain of metal (much as I am currently). I usually end up flaking out and doing it myself.
  9. Kerfing is a way of curving wood by making a series of perpendicular cuts to the grain and to the back of a piece of wood. At any rate it looks great. Your (other) board inspired me greatly on a modular terrain set up.
  10. Beautiful job on the boat! Balsa on kerfed foamcore?
  11. Brought me out of lurkage: love, love, love this simple but perfect mod.
  12. YW, Chazza. I'm new to these boards but I've been painting minis since junior high in the late 1980's. Still haven't improved one iota, tho ;-) I rather like Minature Mentor's painting tutorials but I think they are expensive. You can essentially download all you want for a subscription price of US $80 and they would probably go a long way to helping you if you are a "watch and put hands on" kind of guy. There is a lot of talent here on the Wyrd Forums (Brushmistress immediately leaps to mind) that I've seen so far and if you've got some talented local folks down in Sydney near you there is NO substitute for someone showing you tips & tricks. Finally, paint and strip, paint and strip, paint and strip... If I am the slightest bit unhappy with a mini I will strip it down and repaint it in a heartbeat. There is no substitute for practice. You have a LOT of the basics already covered and natural talent.
  13. IMHO, the only thing really "off" with this mini is his eyes... the tiny dot in a field of white takes away his "sinister" look and makes him more "dazed" looking (which may be the effect you're going for, I don't know). Reaper the craft has a great tutorial on painting eyes for miniatures: http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12 If you want Mortimer to look more sinister, less white and less pupil/iris showing is key.. think about the actions of the mini... he's in mid swing so he's probably got one eye slightly more open than the other or both slightly squinty. You should put a wash on your base and dirty up the moss a bit... maybe a light grey to give it a lichen color. Otherwise, only C&C I can think of to really improve the mini (for your second one ever.. very well done)
