  1. Thanks! The artwork on the counters was put together with a combination of MS Paint, Inkscape, and Publisher, then I sourced them out to a custom laser-engraving operation. Makes me wish I had a laser-engraver!
  2. A couple of updates. My project log for the tournament is here: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?p=196184#post196184 The "exploding swag" garage sale is here, with some cool custom corpse/scrap counters up for sale: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?p=196183#post196183
  3. I'm in the process of slowly getting ready for the 4/30-5/1 Malifaux tournament in Bellingham (see here for details: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17828). I figured I'd post some occasional info on the projects I'm doing to get ready for the tournament. First up are some custom-made engraved wood corpse and scrap counters that will be given away to attendees. These are made of 1/8" thick basswood and are 30 mm in diameter. They are double-sided - one side is a corpse counter and the other side is a scrap counter. I must say, they turned out quite nice! If you're interested in getting some of these and won't be attending the tournament see this thread. I've also started some work on a special character who will be making an appearance during one of the scenarios. Not much to see yet, but it's a start! Finally, I'm also going to be working on a couple special terrain boards. This is the start of a Badlands board - lots of red rock formations and deep canyons, with some ladders and walkways to make the playing surface 3-d. I'm working on a small hovel and a mine entrance for this board, as well. I have plans for a host of other boards, including a Pioneer Town and Sewers, though we'll see what gets done!
  4. Hi all - I'm in the process of slowly gathering the swag for the 4/30-5/1 Malifaux tournament in Bellingham (see here for details: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17828). As part of the tournament, I'm trying an "exploding swag" concept - I'm putting some of the swag up for sale before the tournament in order to generate funds to get even more swag for the folks attending the tournament. If you're going to the tournament (and I hope you are), you'll be getting the stuff I post here at the tourney. If you're not attending - this is your chance to get it! First in are some custom-made engraved wood corpse and scrap counters. These are made of 1/8" thick basswood and are 30 mm in diameter. They are double-sided - one side is a corpse counter and the other side is a scrap counter. I must say, they turned out quite nice! If you're interested in getting some of these, shoot me a PM or an e-mail at jim(dot)graham(at)wwu(dot)edu . I'm selling the extras I have for $10 for a set of 5 double-sided counters. If you toss in a couple of extra dollars per order, I'm happy to ship them to you. Alternatively, if you'll be at an event in the Pacific NW that a Warhamster is attending (like, for instance, the upcoming Malifaux get-together at the AFK Tavern) then I can arrange to have them hand-delivered if you give me enough warning. More to come as the swag is developed!
  5. My wargaming club (the Bellingham Warhamsters) will be putting on a 2 day tournament in Bellingham, WA. I’ll update this page on a regular basis as new info becomes available. If you’d like to help advertise (or just want to look at pretty pictures) you can find a flyer by following THIS FINELY CRAFTED INTERWEB LINK. The Bellingham Warhamsters Present: The Strange Case of Phineas Tillinghast A Malifaux Grand Tournament in the Narrative Style Date: Walpurgis Night, April 30th through May 1st Time: 9 AM Saturday to 4 PM Sunday Location: Eagles Games; 221 West Holly St,, Bellingham, WA; Store Phone: (360) 671-1913 Cost: $30 before April 21st, $40 April 21st and after Size: Due to planning constraints, the tournament will be capped at 20 participants. Sign up early to reserve your spot - we expect it to fill up! The Proper Attitude The Warhamsters take their gaming seriously, but value fun and camaraderie above all else. Thus, you are encouraged to bring an attitude conducive to an exciting, fun, and relaxing weekend. Please check any must-win attitudes at the door. We have some great microbreweries and an amazing donut shop within walking distance of the event site, and random gaming and shenanigans is likely to keep us up most of the night. Meet new friends, visit old friends, but above all – have fun! Rules: • Select one Master to use for the entire weekend. • Select a pool of up to 50 soulstones of models . • Game sizes will range between 25 and 45 soulstones, depending on the scenario. • All models used (not including summoned models) must be selected from the initial pool of models. • All models must be fully painted (at least 3 colors) and based. • First round pairings will be random (or grudge matches); subsequent pairings will be determined by total victory points. • More details will follow, but expect interesting scenarios linked by a narrative. Prizes for Winners: In the typical Warhamster spirit of challenging but non-competitive “good times” we’ve intentionally removed incentives for trouncing one’s opponent. Instead of showering the winners with prizes, winners just get trophies. Three trophies will be given: Best Gunslinger – The player with the most victory points for the weekend Best Lookin’ – The player with the best looking crew (as voted by the players) Best Storyteller – The player who is the most fun to play (as voted by the players) Prizes for Everyone: Rather than showering the winners with prizes, we’d like to shower EVERYONE with prizes! As Eagles Games will be donating the space to play, more than 100% of the proceeds of the tournament will go into swag, giveaways, and prizes. How is it possible to get more than 100%? We’ll be trying something new. In order to build interest in the tournament (and generate additional funds to create more swag), we’ll be selling some of the give-aways before the tournament. That way, those unable to attend the tournament can still get some of the cool swag, and in doing so create even more awesomeness for those attending the tournament. While we don’t want to give away all of our secrets ahead of time, expect: • A custom-designed deck of cards (kind of the Malifaux equivalent of custom dice) • Custom engraved wood counters • A custom miniature sculpted and cast for the tournament • A terrain piece, objective, or two. • And more! Of course, some of the proceeds (and generosity of the sponsors) will go into the prize table. The plan is to have a variety of good stuff (including a boxed set or two, some blisters, etc.) and determine who gets first pick by raffle. There should be enough that everyone walks away with something from the prize table. Enough already, man, how do I sign up?: The attendee list for the tournament is currently full; however, if you'd like to be put on a waiting list, please send an e-mail to jim(dot)graham(at)wwu(dot)edu with "Malifaux GT" as the topic (and, of course, replacing the (dot)s and (at)s with the appropriate symbols. We'll be asking folks who are on the current attendee list to make payment by March 31st. At that point, we'll contact folks on the waiting list if there are any openings. We'll be accepting payment in advance using Paypal, but don't send any money until you've been cleared by Jim - we don't want folks sending money if there aren't any spaces left. Alternatively, come by the Eagles gameroom any Tuesday evening between 5pm and 10pm or so and pay in person (if Jim's not there, just about any Warhamster will do - just make sure they know what it's for and WHO it is for). Purchase cool swag to help fund the tournament by following this link Follow the progress of the terrain and swag by following this link Attendees Paid List: Mark Hanford (Mach5) Tony Penksa (tpenksa) Steve (Yarbicus) Ryan (Onayr) Chris (BrotherSir) Josh (kogre) Andy (Android) Dan (Veskit) Matt (Goblyn13) Riley Evan (stark1261) Ray Bannon (Rage) Corey (VonVilkee) Darren (Distaff) Ryan Budd Adam (Malsqueek) jasonbeauchene Jay (Jay) Nathan (nathonicus) Dark Alleycat walpurgis.pdf
  6. Certainly, it's feasible, but my experience has been that its something that takes a fair bit of finesse to pull off. The problem with the big beasties in Malifaux is that while they have very high damage output and high number of wounds, they tend to have a low defense, and as a result get hit a lot more than other models. With a low model count this problem is amplified, as they soak up all of the enemies attacks. Furthermore, many strategies and schemes in Malifaux are objective based, and require you getting models spread out and quickly across the board. this could be hampered by a low model count. In short, in most situations it would be feasible but difficult. In a fewer number of situations a "big guy" build would be untenable. In an even fewer number of situations it would be ideal. I've gone "big guy heavy" in my McMourning crew (I use Killjoy and the means to quickly summon a Rogue Necromancy). It can be powerful, but losing one of those models can really, really hurt. My belief is that attrition-resistant crews (Ressers, Ramos, Levi) can pull it off better than others, as they can always make more models.
  7. I used her as the gunslinger in my Viktoria crew, as well. It keeps the all-female theme going, and really fits in well with the rest of the Outcast ladies. I'm planning on using a PP "Black Widow" sniper as a Freikorp trapper and some Black Scorpion Pirate Girls as desperate Mercs. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. Great work so far! FWIW, I also like the Wyrd Convict Gunslinger - I use the original model as a merc in my Res crews.
  8. Hi all - If folks are interested, I'll be doing another demo this Tuesday, January 4th. In case no new players seeking a demo show up, I'll be bringing tools and supplies to teach how I build my rocky terrain on the cheap out of pink foam and a retractable snap-blade knife (t, shown below, is an example picture is below). Specifically, I'll be teaching how to do red-rock formations for a "Badlands" board. If you're interested in learning the game or honing your terrain-building skills, stop on by! I'll be running regular Malifaux demos the first Tuesday of every month at Eagle's Games in Bellingham WA from 6 to 9. If you're interested in learning the game, stop by - I'll provide crews, decks, and everything you need to play. If you already play, you can find plenty of potential Malifaux opponents there on most Tuesday nights, as well. Eagles is located at the corner of Holly and Bay in downtown Bellingham: 221 West Holly Street Bellingham, WA 98225-4311 (360) 671-1913 While the store is on Holly, the gaming room is around the corner and down the block a bit on Bay Street - look for the "Bellingham Gaming Alliance" sign on the left. Hope to see you there! Jim
  9. Gah! I hate posts like these. So much to tantalize and excite, but the photos make it hard to enjoy. The yellow light color and small size of the photos makes it hard to see, but based on what I can see: AWESOME! Love the use of the Empire Flaggelant bits, Colette and Cassandra as Belles, and the unique (for McMourning) basing scheme. Very sharp looking crew you have there - congrats! If I could make one suggestion, it would be that I've always liked the look of blood on the snow ... Any chances of some more shots/different angles on your Rogue Necromancy?
  10. Outstanding! Solid writing throughout, and an engaging story that gains more complexity as everything unfolds. Full of nice little details (e.g., the dead can't use shovels properly, horses, etc.). The Santa twist at the end did nothing for me, but I'm very much looking forward to more!
  11. This sent me on a google adventure wherein I acquired a new holiday tradition. Wow! Happy Krampus Day, all!
  12. It's an unfair characterization to call folks "rules lawyering types" when an official ruling was made on the matter by Weird Sketch: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?p=108305 I think the change.debuff is a good idea, mind you, but those who followed the official rulings were hardly rules laweryeing types.
  13. There's plenty of folks in Seattle and Northern Oregon - check out the Ordo boards linked above. Many long-time Warhammer and 40k folks in the region have been getting into Malifaux. Sometime this spring we'll be having a large 2-day tournament. Hopefully we'll get you up for that!
  14. Hi all - I'll be running regular Malifaux demos the first Tuesday of every month at Eagle's Games in Bellingham WA from 6 to 9. If you're interested in learning the game, stop by - I'll provide crews, decks, and everything you need to play. We have a growing Malifaux community in Bellingham, and generally have a number of Malifaux games going on every Tuesday evening. If you're interested in contacting with local Malifaux players, head over to http://www.ordofanaticus.com/forum/index.php and check out the Malifaux board - lots of folks from the Pacific Northwest post there. Bellingham also has it's own subforum. PM me with your forum login and I'll give you access to it. 15. In addition to the Wyrd Flesh Construct, I use Reaper's Frankenstein: I also use some of West Wind's Monster By-Blows (a great deal for 4 models). the scale on all of them is spot-on.
  16. $$$$$$$$$$ Huh. I'll be. Look at that!
  17. Another batch of propaganda posters culled from the web and modified (though some didn't need any changes). The Guild continues it's campaign against the undead menace: Canine remains can be dangerous! The M&SU begin their campaign: Wait a minute, how did this one get in there!
  18. Best wishes on a speedy recovery! We need to get you healthy and posting more ASAP.
  19. Prof. Witchheimer from over on the Lead Adventure Forum has started a manufacturing/retail endeavor: http://www.lead-adventure.com/ I'm particularly stoked about the "Victorian Sci-Fi Steampunk" range, as they are doing lead versions of the steampunk minis sculpted by Ratnik. Some teasers:
  20. Clean, stunning, and evil. the wicked glint you've captured in his eyes is priceless beyond compare. Looking forward to seeing more!
  21. Hmmm... apparently, a google video search for 50 cal flintlock pistol brings up all sorts of little gems. Example: [ame] [/ame] Looks like a little rocket launcher!
  22. .50 cal. Flintlock. Definitely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_caliber_handguns
  23. I'll be using the "Daemon World" basing scheme I developed for some of my other armies. Initially, I couldn't decide between maggots, spikes, eyes, or seeping wounds. Therefore, I went with all three! Hmmm... I've had some experience casting bases before. Perhaps I'll develop a mold and cast some of these up (I've been sculpting each individually up to now. A painted test base for a Daemon Prince: A Daemon Prince I previously painted for my fantasy army, re-based with a round base. The model and base are magnetized so I can switch him from system to system.
  24. I have had lots of success with Killjoy in a McMourning crew. At 35 ss I run Killjoy, a Necropunk (the Killjoy delivery system), 2 canine remains, a chihuahua, a convict gunslinger, and two rottern belles. The first order of business is for McMourning to carve those dogs up and start pumping out big nasties (the Rogue Necromancer and Flesh Constructs) as quick as possible. My record so far is ending a game with an extra Necromancy and 2 flesh constructs. My goal is to have a "perfect" 6-turn game of a necromancy and 5 flesh constructs. Mad science, indeed! Killjoy is a perfect compliment to the heavy hitters McMourning can summon.
  25. Wow, the madness continues! Friendship bear looks a bit like a barbaloot playing among the truffula trees in his brown barbaloot suit. If intentional, you have my undying respect and admiration. If unintentional, you're still brilliant!
