Brewmaster
Just checking to make sure I'm not missing something: The book says an attack action must have a target and LoS. Can I declare an attack action that I know will fail? (ie: 'I try to melee range 1 against that guy in LoS who's 2in away')
0 Ausplosions
I would say yes, but as to why I don't know.
0 Clement
It was a thing back in 1.5. I'm pretty sure that in 2.0 you cannot declare an action against an illegal target, and out of range models would be an example of those. 0 Uktena
In the spirit of recent threads, I feel we ought to debate the meaning "declare" and see if that yields answers. (Kidding. I love you guys.)
0 entropolous
Because of triggers like on the Guardian's shield bash, which deal damage after "failing" i would say no.
0 Brewmaster
See, I was thinking the answer was no as well, but all I'm finding in the book is: -Must have target and LoS to attack -Can't attack yourself Curious if I'm missing something
0 Mako
On page 38 of the big rulebook it specifies that the Rg is: the maximum range (Rg) the action can affect is listed And page 40 says: If the distance between the two bases is equal to or less than the Range of the Action, then it is within range, and the Action can take effect. Which I take to mean that if you declare a 1" attack at 2", you're outside the range the action can take effect. So you could, theoretically, declare it, and it would just fizzle out (as it can't take effect) with no duel, no cards being flipped, and therefore no triggers. You haven't failed the duel, you've not had one, so after failing doesn't work.

0 Tuttleboy
No. PG 35 os rulebook says: Unless specified by the Action, the target must be in range... 4th Paragraph under 1. Declare Action And Spend AP
0 Mako
Tuttleboy's right, I missed that one - page 37 big book, I presume page 35 in the rules manual? Even more definitely a no then!
0 Brewmaster
Even better! Thought I found a stupid combo, but the rules shut it down. Thanks tuttleboy!
