Webmonkey
New Update!!! Went ahead and did the work. I didn't take picture of the step by step,.. but the process is the same as all the other stuff. Flesh tone, shadows, pastels,... add the eyes by hand,.. (I can give you guys the exact steps if anyone is actually interested) And I still have to do the hair in a color. But as for now,.. here's where I'm at,.. I hate taking these pictures at night because my camera tends to white-wash or discolor stuff a lot. But believe me, even if the pictures don't show it, the skin shading is fantastic. Anyways,.. enjoy!!!
Mako
The eyes are just amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing the shading when you next get daylight photos *grin*
Webmonkey
Added the hair,.. next up, the bonnet. After that, we'll be adding the head to the model, then working on the long hair coming out of the pony-tail in the back.
edonil
going to do anything with makeup?
Webmonkey
I was thinking plain faced for this one. I had thought about lipstick or what have you,.. but it seems to cheapen it somehow,..
edonil
Depends on how heavy you go with it. A light touch of lipstick would be appropriate, I think.
Webmonkey
Bonnet is now added and painted. Will be attaching it in a few moments, but wanted to get a shot or two before I glue it in place.
edonil
Very nice! Can't wait to see all this come together.
Webmonkey
Ok,.. head is attached. I think It really helps bring the whole thing together. Next up, the rest of the hair,.. then after that,.. wings!!!
Webmonkey
Small change in the order. I think I need to do the wings first. Why?? Because when the hair falls from the back of the head, it'll need to lay between the wings, or on the outside of the wings. Improper positioning, may make it so that I can't attach the wings at all. These wings were what actually drew me to this model in the first place. Clockwork butterfly wings just aren't something I see very often. I've included a picture of the wings. The bit on the left shows the individual pieces, and the one on the right shows more or less what they'll look like when assembled. If you look, you'll notice that the moulding process left a bit of a "skin" in the webbing of the wings. That's why some sections are solid and others have holes in them. So then, first order of business,... hollowing out the wings. After that, I need to decide on a paint scheme. Should I bring the purple and black up into the wings? Or, because they're clockwork, a metallic of some kind? silver? gold? perhaps both?? Hrmmm,.. thoughts??
edonil
I say match the wings to the clock.
i_was_like_you
I say match the wings to the clock. But add a complementary purple in the "skin" of the wings, maybe tinting clear resin and carefully applying it in the empty spaces.
Webmonkey
small update for all three of my followers,.. *lol* Here's what a few days and a file gets me. Now, lets see what happens with the paint. I left certain sections filled in for a little depth and contrast in the paint. It'll make a bit more sense when you guys see the paint applied. LordDarcy
These look amazing. Thanks for sharing your work.
Webmonkey
Tried the gold wing with the white in-lay. Didn't like it. So now I'm trying to decide between a boltgun metal finish, or black with purple highlights. I'm thinking the metal,.. but we'll see. Webmonkey
Here's a shot of the metal wings. The top piece is just basic metal, and the bottom has some black inlayed in it and a black wash on the metal. I'm liking the direction its going. I might do a small bit of gold to pick out some details.
bowchikawowers
The gold would be a nice touch I think. It's gorgeous so far!
Big Ned
Sounds good, it the muted metal should compliment the model without distracting the eye from the main part of it.
Webmonkey
Exactly my thought. Which was the reason why I didn't like the gold with white in-lay. It took the eye away from the model, and the gold right next to the purple clashed something horrible.
Webmonkey
I think I've settled on a look I like for the wings,....
