Faction Decks?

Aesop

Recommended Posts

Malifaux being my first miniature game, I don't fully understand how faction decks work. I'm hoping someone more familiar with the hobby can fill me in. Is it just 1 card for each master and 1 for every model in the faction? How does it work if I have 8 or 12 of a model, like the bayou gremlin for example. Do I buy multiple faction decks to accommodate my crew?

We don't know yet what the exact numbers are going to be. I don't believe there has been an official announcement.

I'm assuming that there will be one of all the Uniques and I'm guessing at least as many minion copies as there are sculpts (like they do now). Like Death Marshals have 3 sculpts, so will probably have 3 cards......but that's just a hopeful guess.

There will be a problem with model that do not have Rare X characteristics and You can field them in great number: Guild Hounds, Canine Remains, Bayou Gremlins.

Of course You can always have one cards and wounds markers beside the miniature (but what about a upgrade system then, each miniature can have a different upgrade so it should be the card to take a note about which upgrade was chosen).

I hope that like the previous stat cards, individual cards will be available outside of the faction packs. So we could place an order for the Gremlins Faction pack, then order as many individual bayous as we intend to run / summon (assuming they even still have Get Yer Bro).

On the note of multi-models, like Guild Hounds, Canine Remains, Malifaux Raptors, etc., I hope that in the plastics we get a few more sculpts. A couple of dogs, two pairs of dead dogs, and a pair of birds don't seem to be enough for the 1.x lists that would want to run them. Oh, and rats. Hamelin's horde of rats. They may have been tamed a bit by the errata, but players still need a bunch of them. Multiples of the same sculpt just get boring. And, even though the plastics are easier to mod, not everyone has the time, talent, or desire to do so.

Personally, the lack of knowledge about the Faction decks is the biggest thing stopping me from being excited about M2E.

Without knowing what the price and contents will be, I just keep seeing dollar signs.

I guess I just have the cards and figs tied so tight in my mind that the idea of paying too much to replace them irks me in a way that having to buy new books just doesn't.

This!

Its a bit hit or miss. I certainly don`t want to have to buy individual cards outside the faction deck especially if they are not in the UK as postage costs are properly silly for cards. I would hope they would have at least 3 or 4 cards per minion that is unlimited. Say 3 belle cards, 3 death marshall cards so on and so on

Personally, I think it might work better if there were Faction Decks, Crew Decks, and individual model card packs (in the rarity value amount, at least in 1.x packs).

I can't see someone who only owns one crew from a few different factions (plus a few extra support models for each) wanting to buy a full Faction Deck. Sure, the trade forums might get pretty busy if it happens, but I still see someone having to get stuck with the initial investment of each faction pack before being able to part them out to others. Myself, on the other hand, I'll just be buying all of the Faction Decks, as I'll need them. I'll still need plenty of individual model cards, too.

My girlfriend also has eight bayou gremlins. A faction pack of Gremlins, plus a four pack of Bayou Gremlin sculpts A, B, C & D should be enough to cover them all. I hope. Sooo many Gremlins that they could take up their own Malifaux Battlefoam Bag.

I have faith that Wyrd will do the right thing. For the cost of a few cards, it shouldn't be a big deal to put 8, 10, or 12 Bayou Gremlin cards in a deck. I'm sure that they realize that with a huge change like this, lacking a few cards is not the place to anger your fan base.

I know when I went through a rules change with a different gaming system that did faction decks, the figs that could be run in multiples had more than enough cards in each deck. I never had to pick up extra cards outside of the faction deck. I almost felt like they could have got away with less cards, but why anger your fan base, who will be spending a lot for this rules change, for a few pennies a deck?

I'm sure they'll do fine.

I'm just not sure why the stat card prices for domestic or international shipping were ever so high to begin with. To ship cards to Europe in an envelope, it costs about $2; stateside it only costs the price of a stamp, even with a rigid toploader. But I've heard people on here say that the shipping charges for just a stat card were $8, within the US. Never heard whether they were shipped in an envelope or a box, though.

Ordering them with a faction deck shouldn't increase the shipping cost at all over what it'd cost to ship the deck to here, there, or anywhere, though.

[I wonder if Wyrd would do layaway for the Faction Decks. I'm gonna need 'em all.]

I do not use one card per model when i have 15 malifaux rats on the table. One card for reference and some dice for wounds is enough.

Else you need an extra table just to lay all your cards out and a lot of time looking to connect models with their corresponding cards...

In general, with the exception of things like Bayou gremlins, steampunk abominations and Malifaux Rats, i hope they put enough cards in the box for the Max Rarity & for those models without a Rare X value, they just put in double the number of cards that you get models in a box.

This just occurs to me, but is there any chance that there will be a limit to the max number of one minion that you can have, i.e. every model now have Rare X? This may be the only way to include the correct amount of card into one faction deck, without forcing the player to buy more deck and ending up with redundancy.
