  1. I have faith that Wyrd will do the right thing. For the cost of a few cards, it shouldn't be a big deal to put 8, 10, or 12 Bayou Gremlin cards in a deck. I'm sure that they realize that with a huge change like this, lacking a few cards is not the place to anger your fan base. I know when I went through a rules change with a different gaming system that did faction decks, the figs that could be run in multiples had more than enough cards in each deck. I never had to pick up extra cards outside of the faction deck. I almost felt like they could have got away with less cards, but why anger your fan base, who will be spending a lot for this rules change, for a few pennies a deck?
  2. Did you have enough terrain on the board to provide cover? Malifaux is intended to be played with a lot of terrain, especially compared to other game systems. You should be able to move up the board with a decent amount of terrain to hide behind. Check the rule book for guidelines on the terrain amounts.
  3. Perhaps I should clarify. Basically I was trying to make the point that in my experience I attempted a list like you presented and also attempted to execute each of the 5 core tactics in a single game and completely overwhelmed myself. In comparison to that experience Pandora's boxed crew felt easier to manage. I agree that Pandora certainly is not an uncomplicated master but was trying to state that she felt that way for a bit for me because of the way I tried to execute my first games with Som'er. Your 30 SS list is probably a better start. Laying out the order in which to master the tactics is very informative and I wish I read that two years ago.
  4. I recall you stating that was your first game when you did the Ophelia overview on Aethervox. Anyone starting Ophelia should go listen to that recording Like I said, the list isn't going to take out everyone and might not win all your games. But a few games with that list and you will have that part of Som'er's crew down like that back of your hand and then you can start throwing other models and tactics. First time I played Som'er I bought all the Gremlins, read all the stuff, and tried to execute everything in one game. My head promptly exploded. After I cleaned up the mess I went and got Pandora's box and thought it was a relief to play an uncomplicated master. I wish I had never done that and would be farther along in mastering and painting Gremlins if I hadn't.
  5. Tons of good information in this thread. Most people will take the advice of others and start with Ophelia and it is a great move. If you do want to start with Som'er, I suggest starting small and contained. What I mean by that is run a list the contains Som'er, some Mosquitoes, Bayou Gremlins, and some Slop Haulers. Here is a sample 30 soul stone list: Outcasts Crew - 30 - Scrap Som'er Teeth Jones -- 8 Pool 2 Giant Mosquitos [4ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Slop Hauler [4ss] Slop Hauler [4ss] For this list you would need to buy Som'er or his box, 1 or 2 blisters of Gremlins depending on whether you bought the box or not, 4 Mosquitoes, and 1 blister of Slop Haulers. This allows you to focus on learning 4 gremlin models inside and out as well as learning how to summon gremlins and mosquitoes. By the end of the second turn you should have 4 mosquitoes and more gremlins on the board. While this list isn't the best gremlin list and won't win you any tournaments, it is surprisingly effective especially when playing people who don't play against Gremlins that often. The advantages to starting Som'er with this list are: - allows you to focus on learning a few models and the core of a Som'er crew really well - you will always out active the other player - so many models can be very effective for certain strategies and schemes - a high soul stone cache allows you to make sure Som'er can always summon another gremlin and do what he needs to do. It will let you learn Som'er and work towards using a smaller cache - Pigs are insignificant so you always need gremlins and running a pig list to start with just adds more models you need to learn at once It is important to remember that playing with a Som'er crew, especially the one above is mostly about the strats and schemes and not taking out the other crew. You can win games with gremlins without even putting one wound on the other crew. Once you get the hang of the above crew then you can start adding in Ophelia and the Kin or you can start going with pigs. But you will be adding at your own pace and really learning the models as you go. I won a game against Ramos the other night and here was my list: Outcasts Crew - 30 - Scrap Som'er Teeth Jones -- 8 Pool 2 Giant Mosquitos [4ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Malifaux Rat [2ss] Slop Hauler [4ss] Slop Hauler [4ss] I added the Rat to heal the Mosquitoes. Essentially I'm still working with the 4 models since the Rat just sacrifices itself. I don't even bring it's card. Now my strategy was Distract and I picked Bodyguard and Stake a Claim. His strat was Slaughter. Bodyguard is a great scheme for Som'er since he should generally sit in your deployment zone farting out Gremlins. Stake a Claim is great since Gremlins have can get an extra AP and move 15" in a turn. So for this match what I did was sit in my deployment zone and make gremlins and mosquitoes for two turns. I sacrificed the rat to heal the mosquitoes and used the Slop Haulers to heal the Gremlins. Turn 3 I moved one Slop Hauler and some Gremlins up to the center of the board. I flew the Mosquitoes up to the center and used Pull My Finger to damage the other crew in turns 3, 4 and 5. Starting in turn 3 I ran a gremlin around each flank of the board to get to my designated piece of terrain for Stake My Claim. During turns 3, 4, 5, and 6 I used Gremlins in the center of the board to block the Ramos crew from getting to Som'er. I healed the Gremlins with the Slop Haulers and made a new one each turn with Som'er. It's a simplistic game plan but surprisingly effective. Part of the advantage is having so many more models on the table. I wouldn't try to win a tournament with this list but it's a great way to learn Som'er and the core of the Gremlin group. You can then just start adding in other Gremlin models as you go. I want to also add that Bacon Bombing and Pig Laddering and all those Som'er tactics are awesome and Omenbringer and Dumb Luck do a freakin' awesome job of explaining them and helping people with them. People say Som'er is hard to learn because the attempt to get a crew together and go out to play their first game learning the crew, learning the models, and trying to do a tactic like the Bacon Bomb all at the same time. It's too much. Start smaller and learn the models and start adding in tactics one at a time. It'll be more manageable. I'm sure guys like Dumb Luck and Omenbringer weren't Alpha Stanking and Pig Laddering during their first Gremlin game.
  6. Thanks Ausplosions. That was the info I was looking for. No way am I going to wait for new cards.
  7. Now that Hamilen's abilities have been adjusted I'm thinking about setting up a crew. Does anyone know if his card will be changed at some point or will they forever print the current card and I'll have to carry the printed errata around?
  8. So I played a match last night against Perdita. It went well despite losing since I was very close to winning. I delivered my message in turn two so I was out to an early lead but in the end she killed Som'er so I didn't make Bodyguard and lost. The entire time I turned out new gremlins, used the pigs as a distraction and worked on my objectives. In total I only put a few wounds on his models. I wasn't focused at all on killing him, just trying to get my objectives and stop his. The list worked well but I'm going to tweak for the next match. I'm going to drop the rat since it only healed one mozzie when it was sacrificed. I made a gremlin every turn but only managed to make one more mozzie so the rat was a waste of points. My next match in the league is 25 points. I think I'll drop the rat, take a whisperer and a second mozzie or maybe a war pig.
  9. I think that turning his apron into leather from white will make him creepier and more like a morgue master than a doctor. The leather is less humane than the white. Also, I agree that new gloves do not have blood on them but since he's in a morgue those aren't necessarily new gloves. Since I know someone who has worked with dead people I know that dead people aren't concerned with getting a disease via blood so the gloves only serve to stop the person wearing the gloves from catching something. So where a doctor switches gloves between patients a person in morgue doesn't need to. So putting on bloody gloves works in his context. I think the models look great and I would just keep going. "i guess im also ok with having a model thats not the greatest either.." - I doubt that you are ok with it
  10. My friends and I are running a grow league (20ss the first month, 25ss the second, etc) and I'm going to be playing Som'er. I have played only one match with Som'er but have bought most of the Gremlins and Pigs over the last two years. I'm dedicating the rest of this year to only playing Gremlins. I'll run Ophelia with the gunline so I'm going to go hog wild with Som'er and run a pig list for the league. How's this for the start of the pig list and my first match tomorrow? Outcasts Crew - 20 - Scrap Som'er Teeth Jones -- 3 Pool 1 Giant Mosquito [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Malifaux Rat [2ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] What do you think? I've read the tacticas but I'm still a little hazy on where to start with a list. BTW - where did the sticky tactica threads go or am I missing them? They used to be at the front of the post list and I don't see them anymore.... Feel free to follow the posts about the league at my gaming group's blog, Live to Crush. Thanks for the help!
  11. My friends and I are doing a Tale of Painters on our blog, Live to Crush!, and I will be doing a Pandora crew. For the first month I posted up a single Sorrow. Only posting a single model for the month was a strategy decision in case I don't get enough models done in other months. Here are the rules to our ToP which include getting a pie in the face if you don't complete you models. I'll be posting the models I do up into this as well as on our site to get some feedback. For January, a single Sorrow:
  12. Can a mosquito sacrifice itself (target friendly model) to generate another mosquito? Thanks!
  13. That seems to be good advice to. Coming from other games where it is the point to largely kill the opponent, I'm super excited for strategies to be the focus.
