Molly's StD and Philosophy of Uncertainty

Played 25 SS a game with a new player: Marcus v. Molly... which I found very good for teaching. We used simple models: RN, Belles, Crooligans, GS, Silurids, Myranda, Jackolope, Raptor. Pretty straightforward; the only "difficult" models were the leaders, and that's because Use Soulstone takes a bit of explaining.

I had Contain Power and went in to kill Molly with Marcus when she was down to 1 Wd, and he killed her. She didn't have the Masterful Undead trigger, and was out of SS's, so she dropped. I reminded my opponent about her StD action, and suggested Philosophy of Uncertainty against Marcus, temporarily forgetting that it had to be non-leader. He noticed that, and realized that there was no one else within 4" to use it on. Which brings the questions:

1) Can Molly use PoU to target Marcus just to sac herself and deny him the extra 2 VP for killing her with a leader's melee strike?

2) If no, could Molly have targeted the Silurid (or whatever) that was outside of the spell's Rg to sac herself and this deny Marcus the VP's assuming LOS?

3) If yes to question 2, could the same be done to a model outside of LOS? (hm... I'm not quite sure if I have LOS, but I'm gonna try it :wink, wink:. Oh shoot, doesn't happen. Spell fizzles, but I still have to sac Molly. Oh darn!)

The way we would play it is she can cast the spell, as long the target is valid. We also play without premeasuring though so if you cast the spell and the target is out of range the spell auto fails and Molly would be sacrificed.

In my opinion:

1) Yes.

2) Technically yes, but targeting a model you know is out of range of a spell is pretty unsporting.

3) No, in order to cast the spell you must have LoS.

As a side note, if Molly still had Soul Stones left you could use her Slow to Die action to make a healing flip and thus stay alive.

1. As far as I know from having played Molly, you cannot attempt to target a master with PoU. Unless the additional requirement (AR) is met, the spell will automatically fail (p51 of mini rulebook).

2. Likewise here, if the model being targeted is out of range then the spell will fail. (p52).

Ahhh True I revise my statement on #1, you cannot target a master with the spell.

Don't you check range and LoS before meeting additional requirements? I don't have the book to hand.

To be clear the spell say 'non leader', just incase anyone was thinking its a good trade off Vs Collodi

If Collodi is brought as a henchman then he is a legal target, there is only 1 leader per crew. If brought as the master of the crew then he is not a valid target.
