JisaacT
It has to due with humidity moisture and heat in the air. I live In a very humid area and can't use any spray varnish so paint ons are the only option for me
Ratty
Sometimes if you get the white varnish issue, if you leave it to dry then respray the solvent in the spray will dissolve the gunk and it will look OK again, though metallics never look quite the same and might need a repaint. I never spray varnish in certain weathers and I have a sacrificial Zombie which I give a couple of blasts before using varnish on a finished model. El Indio
On the white film, it happens due to moisture being trapped under the varnish, I believe. When you apply the spray, bring the model in and put it under a hot lamp. The heat will evaporate the water. Ever since I learned this technique, I've never had the white film. Same trick works when you already have the film: do a light spray over the model, then put it under the lamp.
Nickienogger
Thank you everyone for all the incredibly useful tips on varnishing and avoiding the white! Be it reglossing... weather watching... sacrificial zombies and hot lamps.... thanks so much! Here's my latest updates... sorry been gone a while. Better late than never! Simulacrum 29. This model is so freaking awesome. Such a joy to paint. Uncle 'Meat' Sebastian, from miniaturefactory.net C&C welcome, thanks for looking! Next up.. polish up the dogs and the entire crew is finished!
daemonkin
Lovely metallics on Sim. Great work D.
Viruk
That's both gruesome and awesome. The Simulacrum is just a nasty piece of meat! I like the way you painted large areas of skin - nice shades and highlights without making it look dull. Sebastian looks excellent too but I think the chainsaw could use a few different shades of metallics.
Nickienogger
Thanks for the comments D and Viruk! and thank you for following my thread all this time Viuk, totally understand the lack of shade variety on the chainsaw. different shades of metallics would be good but I took the easy route. unfortunately i get pretty arsey about going back to paint models. maybe i'll correct him soon Nickie
daemonkin
A drop of wash gives a nice colour change on metallics. I'm fond of putting down chainmail or other metal and experimenting with different wash mixes. Particular favourite of mine is prurple/green wash or double sepia to get a lovely golden hue. D. Poggle
You've done a great job here! (of course I generally see myself as not much better than a chimp with a paint roller on my models!) Anyway, I have a question that takes us all the way back to your first posted pics - What/who is that 4 armed gunslinger in there?
Nickienogger
Hey Poggle thanks! everyone's a chimp with a paint roller. Keep working on your painting everyone starts from zero! The gunslinger with four arms is Doc Toranto from Freebooter's miniatures.
Poggle
Thanks! Gotta get me one of those!
Nickienogger
Ah.. sorry for dissaspearing for a long time, I ran out of steam with painting temporarily! Evilbleachman
Awesome thread thus far. You've established a wide range in awesomeness.
Nickienogger
Thank you all for your kind comments! will try to edit this post with a larger photo. And an honor to get a compliment from the Evil Bleach Man himself! i'm a huge fan!
Evilbleachman
Haha. I do like your stuff. I am still working on how I will paint my Dead Justice crew. Either I stick to my guns and keep them in my Undead/Rezzer scheme or I go for something entirely different. It really depends on how I will use them. What do you use the two Effigy models for in that crew? Or are they more to compliment the undead crew models?
Nickienogger
Hehe, the Guild Effigy is there as the model itself. Whilst the Undead Carrion Effigy serves not only as my McMourning's ressers effigy... but also as the Guild Watcher, very useful gaming wise! Viruk
Great looking crew, I really like the coherent colors you used.
Nickienogger
Thank you Viruk for always keeping an eye on my log. Interesting you say 'coherent' because a friend of mine an experienced painter said the same thing. I understand you mean it as a complement, bu do you reckon it could come across 'too plain'? What would you change on this crew, if it appears too plain? Thanks!
Korrosion
Just had a look through this thread and I'm impressed. Two thumbs up for all the models except one. Why is the Man in Black wearing white? Just kidding! I understand it was a style choice. He looks great! :-)
Nickienogger
hehehe cheers Korrosion! Painting white is definitely not my forte and well... practice practice practice makes perfect!
Nickienogger
For this weekend's update I started up with some Kirai. and plan to proxy ten thunder brothers as Gaki. Vengeful soul devouring japanese warrior daemons! I find that they tie in the japanese mythical spirits theme better than Gaki who to me, look like flamers of tzeentch or something. And since i dont expect to use the second Onryo in game that comes in Kirai's starter set.. I've decided to convert her on a 50mm base to proxy as Jakuuna Ubume. chained body and posts from Warmachine's Wracks. Got em dirt cheap ages back for a potential conversion project... here it is! Tell me what you think!
Nickienogger
here's my first test mini, no highlights no details yet.... I know i know... the colorscheme is done to death but I really love it! I'm relatively happy with it so will apply this scheme to the 'ten thunder gakis'.. in the next up date. C&C welcome, and thanks for looking!
