Positive
Can I just decide to fail the resist duel on my own models when for example casting Obey on them, or do I have to flip it and if I manage to resist then cheat?
0 Fetid Strumpet
You have to actually flip, but regardless of what you flip you can always choose to TIE a resist duel on your own models as long as the initial casting was successful. So you will burn cards from your deck, but as long as the initial casting flip was successful, your friendly targeted model may automatically choose to tie the resist flip, and since the attacker wins ties, the effect will still go through. Just to clarify, you still have to flip a card for the resist flip, it just doesn't matter what it was if you want to tie.

0 JuJubee
It gives you that chance to burn your red joker
0 CannonFodder
I don't have my book in front of my to confirm, but I thing the choice to automatically fail a resist only applies to Spells, not normal attacks.
0 Fetid Strumpet
Correct, only resist duels can be automatically tied.
0 Hatchethead
This is true, but you can always cheat down a defense flip if you're looking to strike a friendly model.

I can see this coming up this weekend, as we're all somewhat new to the game, and I'd like to be able to provide rules-supported proof when the inevitable opponent doubt creeps in. I checked my rules manual but can't seem to find it.

0 Lucidicide
Just a strange side note, as I recall it the book says you can choose to tie the total but fail the resist. Because normally, on a spell resist, you will win if you tie the TN.
0 Silas Cordell
Just a strange side note, as I recall it the book says you can choose to tie the total but fail the resist. Because normally, on a spell resist, you will win if you tie the TN. This is no longer true. As of the rules manual (maybe before then?), a tie on a resist duel is losing. 0 Fetid Strumpet
Attacker generally wins ties because on a Tie when there is a dmg flip the attacker gains a negative 2 twist for the dmg flip. If the defender won ties that would be a pointless part of the dmg spread.
