Detonate tanks & Freikorps Armor

Ferb

Question

Hi,

Something came up in the game tonite. Zoraida Obey'd the Freikorps Specialist to 'Detonate Tanks'. This generates a 6" pulse & every model in range receives a Ranged Strike.

As Freikorps Armor allows a model to ignore damage from pulse effects does this mean they ignore damage from the Ranged Strike generated. (I'm thinking, yes). If the ranged strike activates the Focused Burn trigger does the defender still take the 1 Dg generated by the trigger as the damage was not directly generated by the pulse?

Thanks,

Ferb

It just defines what a pulse effect is...

And it just says pretty much that, what ProdigalPunk said. It says that a pulse effect is an effect that simultaneously affects all models in range.

(My words: )

In this case the effect is making a ranged strike. But it could also be just dealing a certain amount of Dg.

Right, but you are ignoring the word effect which is sort of the crux of his argument. The pulse effect is a ranged strike which causes damage. His logic is sound, and you can argue all you want but you will be wrong. Do not get my wrong, I know the way you are playing is right, and they still take the damage from the attack, but that does not mean that is actually the way the rule is written.

I'm not ignoring the word effect - Damage caused by a Pulse effect / blast effect / aura effect is damage caused by the placement of that effect. Those 3 types of effect can cause effects other than damage (in this case, ranged strikes), but Freinkorps Armour only ignores damage (not effects) from those 3 types of effect.

Once you have determined which models will be targets by a ranged strike, the pulse is over and you resolve the ranged strikes against each target as per normal ranged strikes. The damage from these ranged strikes is not a pulse effect, a blast effect or an aura effect, and so it is not ignored by their armour.

And Freinkorps armour specifies that it ignores damage. It says nothing about ignoring other effects of Blasts / Pulses / Auras.

I agree that they take the damage. I just think the Wyrd likes to use the same word to mean multiple things a lot, and this is one of those times. I still stand by my previous statements, and still ask if removing the word effect for the armor description would not make it clearer, or cause any unwanted side effects.
