Thryth
Hello, A bit late, but I thought that I would post my GenCon painting entry. I have not seen it in any of the GenCon photographs. Unfortunately, I really rushed this one (right down to working on it at one of the paint-and-take tables), and it shows. I wanted to add freehand to the cloak, but did not have time. Comment are appreciated, as usual. (There is a larger image with more angles on my website: Svala, GenCon Entry ) Thanks!
Nathan Caroland
Lookin' spiffy Stan. Good color choices too. What did you do for the base, a precast or make that up yourself?
Wren
I did miss seeing this one at the show, and I'm sorry to have done so as I quite like it. Great job on the green, and I like the base and the colours you painted it a lot too.
Highbulp Billy
Cery nice - love the vibrancy of the green and warmth of the flesh. I really like the base too so would be interested to know if it's a precast or homemade.
Hinton
It's very good work, Thryth. Was this one of the minis you were showing to Jen? I'm just kind of curious what she might have said about it if it was.
Duende
I'm sorry I missed seeing this at GenCon. When did you get it entered? Just asking because I did my picture-taking before all the entries were in, and I noticed there were even more entries when I swung by later, but my camera card was full. Very nice paintjob, by the way. I really like the green/blue combination.
DrEvilmonki
Yeah have to agree with the above, it looks pretty good to me. Not a comp winner but certainly a solid piece.
AoM
Nice model. The kneeling legs look a little off to me (almost like they are too long for the rest of the sculpt), but maybe I'm just nuts. the painting is very nice.
gi6ers
Good colour scheme, I think the face lets it down a little though.
Thryth
Thanks to everyone for the nice complements. @FF, @Highbulp Billy I used a Kerr & King KK-118 30mm Dia. Celtic Fantasy Base. @Hinton I considered my previous two better, so I showed her those instead (links): Archibald and Achilles Class Biomech. The gist of what I remember her saying about those pieces is that I needed better and more consistant darklining, bring-up the hotspots on my NMM, and the static grass doesn't go with that. @Duende I entered it late-ist on Friday. I took it back later on Saturday. @gi6ers I agree about the face, I was not happy with the way that it turned-out. For that matter, I was not happy with the cloak either. Then too, the dirt isn't that great. Just to ask while on the subject. Does anyone have opinions/suggestions on the NMM? Thanks again. gi6ers
To be fair, I had a go at this mini and the face is a total pain in the ass. The NMM works for me!
LavronYor
To go with what JBT was saying, that only 10% should be highlighted. The hammer looks about 30% on the top. I'm not saying I could do it yet, but that is probably what someone better than I would say. Hope that helps.. ( oh, he's helpful now, but wait til iron time..... )
