Stupidcow
Didn't know there's another astronomical event so close to the one on 27th Aug whereby Mars moves really"close" to earth it appears there's two moons in the sky.

Nah, Check it out: http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/mars/mars_orbit.html Looks like Mars s going to be pretty close for the rest of the year, with the absolute closest being right around Winter Solstice (December 20th-21st) and starting to go our separate ways around the beginning of the year. Will be the closest its been in long time, although not as close as it was in August 2003, when it was only 50Million kilometers
lauth81
a lunar eclipse is nice, but it's not as strange as a full solar eclipse. I had the chance to watch one back in 1999 and it was a weird experience.
goblyn13
Coolest Phenomena I ever saw was when I lived up in alaska and witnessed a Sun dog, where you end up with multiple suns: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog

EricJ
Was completely clear here, worth getting up for 5 minutes in the middle of the night for I think, but not something I would have cried and cried about if I missed

EricJ
but Nathan, at Gencon you cried just about every time I left the room...or when I didn't praise your speed paint mini enough...or when I didn't smile back when you winked at me... but come on, you know I'm always there for you *hand on shoulder*
Lordfishbane
I was avoiding all the people who decided to watch the sky instead of the road during rush hour this morning

I may not know the rules for TT contest but I know what I'm talking here. :hmpf: Ok went and did some looking and while Mars was 6x brighter and larger then normal there was no real difference to the naked eye, and it certainly didnt look like a second moon. If you had a telescope to play with on the other hand... http://www.snopes.com/science/mars.asp

Lunar eclipse was also excellent. Last time I saw one that good was 2004 when the Red Sox won the Series..I hope its an omen.
