Ritual
Can't say this is my absolute, #1 favourite of all time, but New Model Army is a band I've listened to for about 15 years and recently I have been listening to them quite often. Here's a good tune... "Living in the rose" [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUMjmjwAVs4]YouTube - New Model Army - Living in the rose[/ame] EDIT: This embedding function is really fun! matty1001
Some good stuff there Ritual, not bad. Prefer the second one, has a sort of 'Cure' sound to it.

Ritual
@lauth Oh yes, the Klinik!! I've got all their early records, from when Dirk Ivens was still in the band. I've got most of his post-Klink stuff too, Dive and Sonar, but I'm still looking for the Blok 57 albums he's on!

cdukino
The band i went to the concert off yesterday (absolutley brilliant): After Forever New single: Energize me Gothic rock [ame=http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8hCSHjjZRA]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8hCSHjjZRA[/ame] (and i got a weakness for the dark haired guitarist with the V shaped guitar as well hmmmmm) Trying to find a typical song with death metal grunts in it and more opera like voice from Floor to. They have plenty but can't find a good exapmple of it on youtube Well this life recording is the best i could find (not my fav song but ok): [ame=http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=296tOY7q0L8]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=296tOY7q0L8[/ame] (the happy pipy longstocking riff in the middle is just a joke ofcourse )
cdukino
I absolutley love this one as well. Maybe even more then the After Forever stuff: Dream Theater Dark Erernal Night (studio recording) [ame=http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkF4JD2rO3Q]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkF4JD2rO3Q[/ame]
Ritual
With the risk of sounding like an old grumpy bastard... [old grumpy bastard voice] Is THAT what they call "Gothic Rock" nowadays? [/old grumpy bastard voice] It's just that having grown up with goth music since the very early days of that sub culture I'm a bit "stuck in my ways"... In other words, I'm old and grumpy! EDIT: Just to illustrate the difference... Here's Bauhaus [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HdLKCIcQv4]YouTube - Bauhaus - Passion of Lovers VIDEO[/ame]
cdukino
Haha... i just call it Gothic roch for lack of a better word for it. I don't care what it is called haha. And you are what... 2 years older then me?
EldinTux
I agree Ritual, it's more a cross between metal & thrash. But I suppose definitions change with the generations
Ritual
@cindy Yeah, I'm not really old as in coffin-dodger old... But sometimes things I've been doing for a long time make me feel old. It's like when I go to a goth club, for instance... Most of the people there are 10-15 years younger than me and I don't even recognise the music they listen to... lauth81
Well ... bauhaus is even older than the term "gothic rock" ... I think the band split up before the term was even coined. I don´t know if I would call them gothic rock bands, gothic for sure, but rock? I would call these bands "classic" gothic rock bands: "The Sisters of Mercy", "The Mission" and "Fields of the Nephilim". Esp. Fields kick ass (they have songs about Cthulhu!), too bad they split up in the early 90s and the follow-ups by former members were thrash. Nice too see some people here in my age category (30+) that share my taste for music, or, better said, my music favourites I had 10-15 years ago ... Now I´m more interested to dark electro stuff like the things I posted above.
Ritual
Seeing as Bauhaus's influences are mainly David Bowie, T Rex and other glam rock acts I'd definitely call them rock!
Ritual
@lauth Every time I hear any new hard EBM/dark electro act it strikes me how little has happened in the last 15 or so years in that genre. Take this 15-year old Leæther Strip song for instance... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkHNkCjnZlw]YouTube - Leather Strip - Evils Speak[/ame] Makes most newer bands sound like just "more of the same". But, there have been a few that sticks out. The Mexicans in Hocico for instance, or :wumpscut:...

matty1001
I always knew Bauhaus as a design style, evolved from Art Deco in the mid !900's. Show how much I know about this metal music malarkey.
Ritual
Bauhaus never did metal, Matty! :hmpf:
