Healing flips and damage prevention flips are duels?

This came up in the context of Prof. Von Schtook Stargazer.  A few high level players are claiming that Lessons Learned applies to soul stone prevention flips and healing flips because those are "duels".  Those are just flips, right?  Have I seriously misunderstood the definition of duels?

They aren't duels.

 

 

The rules tell us what a duel is, and neither healing flips or soulstone prevention flips fit the requirements spelled out on page 10, of adding a card to a stat to generate a duel total.
