That's fair -- it's a bit positional, and you may need to land one of the several Slow abilities on your target to fully deny them. But meanwhile you've got a 5" bubble that they can't drop a scheme marker into (or interact with a Corrupted Idol marker through) per Exclusive Interview model, and there's nothing that can directly counter the ability (push/pulls are a soft counter, or there's the standby of, yknow, killing the model). And killing the models is fairly tough with all the Serene Countenance and Distracted you can hand out -- it isn't crazy at all for something attacking a Field Reporter to be at a -/- flip to the attack. And they themselves are pretty decent scheme-runners and counter-schemers with their bonus action push if you can get them a bit of help from markers.

That weakness is so crippling I would rather take literally any model with an engagement range to do the job.

I use them to run schemes themselves, or to pick up markers with their rapid action.  the no engagement honestly is crippling for most other things.  It does 1. effectively block power ritual.  It fails miserably at hold up their forces though (which is a shame because with the rest of their abilities you would think they were naturals.
