klimpen
So I hear there are new boxes on the horizon. Do you think I should wait to do any buys? I really like Somer and the lads, but people at my lgs said they where unsure about rules and stuff, cards etc.
Joel
Som'er rules and cards are all in the gremlin arsenal deck for wave 1, so his rules are fixed. We don't have a definite time for the release of the plastic set for him. So you could wait and hope it will be out in the next couple of months, or bite the not very expensive bullet and buy metal anyway - then trade up if you like the plastic models when they arrive. Nagash1959
Som'er Teeth's rules are all in the full sized rule book, and his cards in the Arsenal deck as well, so you should have easy access to his (and his crews) stats from there if your store can get any of them in. As for his crew, they mentioned the Gremlins got pushed back a little because they weren't happy with how they came out. You could play with whatever you proxy while waiting (hopefully we'll get some news within the month). The art for his crew is out already too, and they look like they'll be great. zFiend
Definitely wait for the new box, it looks amazing and it's the next box to be released among with Ophelia and Brewmaster!
SpiralngCadavr
Depends on how much you like the existing sculpts. If you're going to be fine with the current ones and don't care if there's an update, sure, buy 'em. Personally, I've never liked the look of much of the gremlin line other than the Kin, so I'm looking forward to finally getting a bunch of models when they come out in plastic.
zFiend
Well now that this discussion is open and I have been wondering about getting into the Gremlins and the one that caught my eye was the Som'er box, what would you feel like "must buys" for Som'er? I realize that to get the amazing enforcers one should propably pick the Ophelia box as well? And would it be better to just wait for a good while to get all the new plastic piglets and pigs etc? Omenbringer
More Bayou Gremlins and a Pigapult are fairly safe bets. Following that a Hog Whisperer and some Piglets. After that what ever strikes your fancy.
zFiend
Well I suppose one should get some Slop Haulers even though they are kinda filthy? How about the bigger pigs? Old Major? Gracie?
klimpen
I like the old skulps and material does not matter to me. It is the rules and composition I am a bit worried about. I really like both Somer editions.
Nagash1959
Som'ers box set should be: Som'er Teeth Jones 1 (possible 2) Skeeter Lenny 4x Bayou Gremlins. The art only shows a single Skeeter, but you can also only have up to two, unless they plan on making a set of them and hope Larva gets triggered that many times in one game... You can definitely have more than two, the limitation on Plentiful is that you may only "Hire" two. You may summon as many as you would like via the Larva trigger on their Proboscis Attack action. With all the half dead Bayou Gremlin's running around and Som'er providing the required Suit, spamming them isn't that difficult. Well I suppose one should get some Slop Haulers even though they are kinda filthy? How about the bigger pigs? Old Major? Gracie? Dont know about Slop Haulers (plural) but one is necessary to keep the summon engine running at full efficiency. The bigger pigs dont do a whole lot for him currently (may change once Avatar is finalized) and your often better served with the specialist Kin models. If the Avatar stays close to what we have now then Old Major wouldn't be a bad addition (though his cost will cause some tough decisions).
twee
What list could you advise if I have following models: Som'er avatar (i.e. Somer and big pig separately) Gracie taxidermist 1 skeeter 1 warpig 3 stuffed piglets 1 pigapult 2 slophaulers 3 young Lacroix Ophelia starter set will get 3 piglets soon I am quite open to proxies Many thanks!! Malal
What list could you advise if I have following models: It entirely depends on what Strat you're playing, what schemes are in the pool and what faction you're opponent is playing...but, looking at what you have available there, for most situations I'd be going with Ophelia and her kin with the slophaulers, maybe using your war pig as a Gracie proxy
twee
I have original Gracie:) but I would like to play Somer as a master and not Ophelia
Malal
Well you can play with whatever you want but Malifaux is set up so you play a faction rather than a master. you pick the strat and scheme pools, declare factions then hire your crew picking the best models to do the job. So list building pre-game doesn't really give you the best chance. for Somer, if you're set on playing him, you need Bayou Gremlins, I would advise Skeeters as well. Francois is good in pretty much any crew and can fill multiple roles (damage dealer and objective runner). Gracie can still work with Somer, him or a Skeeter guaranteeing her Rams is always good and she can make the summoning factory mobile. If you're going down the summoning factory route you'll need the slop haulers too. Lenny is good support for Bayou Grems with his armour and Ram aura and can add more summoning to the crew. twee
I have tried mixed pigs-gremlins list: 40+5 SS Somer (pig feed, family tree) 2 Skitters Lenny + upgrade Gracie Bayou gremlin Slop hauler Piglet Hog whisperer And understood that 'combined list' is either for experienced players or I made some mistake in it. Next time I try piglets OR gremlins
Omenbringer
Combined lists are much less viable currently however can be done. The biggest advice I would give is to field plenty of the staples and then focus a path for Som'er and the support. A combined list plays very differently than his other configurations and requires tough choices and is a lot less forgiving to mistakes. The staples are the key as is replacement ability. After that it is recommended to avoid "Menoth Syndrome", in other words dont try to hire all the neat things. I would recommend a list similar to this and then swap in/ out various things to tailor the list a bit; Gremlins Crew - 50 - ScrapSomer Teeth Jones+Family Tree [2]+Pig Feed [1] Skeeter [2] Bayou Gremlin [3] Bayou Gremlin [3] Bayou Gremlin [3] Hog Whisperer [5] Piglet [4] Piglet [4] Piglet [4] Slop Hauler [5] This gives 14 SS to play with for hiring other things such as Lenny and his Upgrade or the Sow or Old Major. I am partial to Lenny and his upgrade to replace losses though the others do have their place. Once the Avatar is available (assuming it stays farly close to what was tested) this type of list will be much more viable.
twee
I have ended up with: Somer Teeth Jones+Family Tree [2] Skeeter Lenny + I'll love and pet it 3 slop haulers and the rest - bayou gremlins, gremlins, gremlins, gremlins.. Won 10-0 against Ophelia
