anything that will help Marcus in purple will make it absolutely nuts in blue

If NVB get another Versatile (or non-Chimera) Beast, it won't be any problem at all as it won't have any impact on a Arcanist Marcus crew.

And yes, the Obeys are only one of Marcus' problem. Lack of survivability compared to other bubble crews (which the crew should not (fluff: stalking hunters) but has to be (for the effects/ressources)).

Maybe getting an 7 Stones Summoner (Enforcer; similar to the Forgotten Marshal) could help to give the crew a bump. If he/she could summon Minions up to maybe 7 Stones, the Molemen, Corrupted Hounds and Rattlers might suddenly see more playtime and the crew in general would get more ressources in terms of AP? Some Myranda Crocket who calls in smaller beasts again and again would absolutely fit the eco warriors theme in my book.

  2. Nothing wrong about that @LexLock. I'm just mentioning that there always will be a shortlist of hot models for competitive play and those left out.

On a more general level I am totally in the boat with the 'make cheaper models more valid, please' side of things.

my take would be change Saber Onslaught for another mask trigger

Well, Leap and Onslaught is what we bring the Cerberus for. If we take any from it the Marcus crew looses even more reliable options. Giving it Pouncing Strike instead might fit the theme really good, though. But the Cerberus would definitely loose its well-defined role of a hunter of lone Scheme runners, then.

And Marcus feels like a 12-13SS Master... he could use some power shifted from himself (or some buffs)

    Indeed.

Marcus lacks (from my NVB experience) backbone, reliability, ability to respond to certain masters/techs, scaling, condition removal, resource generation and decent early agression potential.

Marcus (Chimera) comes with potential for mobility, card draw, healing, focus, damage output... So, he (his Keyword) looks really impressive on first glance. But he imho is a bit too much of a Jack of All Trades and lacks reliability. Most things are situational and/or circumstantial. The beasts alone don't really compensate enough for his lacking focus/reliability.
But the idea you mentioned earlier of having Adaptive Evolution on every one of his Upgrades might really work wonders here without changing anything else. Thus, those beast would start to blend into the Keyword more and some more synergies would result.
Not sure if this would be enough but as of now I think it is.

  4. Don't forget that not all games have to be tournament-style competitive play.
I just started a campaign with the Shifting Loyalities rules set (modified where necessary) and this is a totally different world. Maybe the game designer have another plan than just making every single model in the game equally valuable for tournament play (which isn't possible, anyways).

Hounds could gain a new ability, fetch, where they can move a scheme, corpse or scrap marker with them when they make a walk action

Canine Remains already do exactly this. And this can be a huge deal for undead crews (see Gravediggers free move/pulsing Focus/Summons/etc). I'd really see the doggos become versatile. In my book they look like one of the most suitable/fitting type of Minion for this label.

Of the 3 I think Canine Remains got the short end of the stick. Not only is it rare 3 instead of rare 4 like the others and it has the lower attack stat, but unlike most of the Undead with HtW he doesn't have the +1 wound over his cost nor does it have Perverse Metabolism like the rest of the Experimental crew.

Canine Remains _do_ come with Perverse Metabolism. In a McM Crew this makes them rather suvivalbe; they can have their place as scheme runners as they can take a hit from most other models about 1-2 stones above their weight and they can be summonend. I still would prefer them to come with the usual +1 Wounds, of course but tbh if a Min3 beater spends an activation to get rid of my Canine I usually am quite happy about that.
For the DrM crew the Canines are a good way to force the opponent to spread his damage which helps the crew a lot (if you mainly stay in keyword).

The Canines are in fact the only Hounds I ever use and even hire (outside a totally relaxed friendly game). The Carrion Away ability can really be useful for the occasional summons the DocM crew offers. If you ever successfully drag the 3rd Corpse towards the good Doctor you will most likely be in a very good spot.

  7. *cough. Tyrants. *cough.

No matter what those human and Neverborn (un)living are up to with their struggles for power they will certainly find a few more ways to increase the influence - and thus threat - the Old On... the tyrants are. Burning Man comes to mind and I am pretty sure a lot of individuals are plotting huge without much real knowledge and bad things are gonna happen.

They major threats aren't the factions in my book as it wouldn't change much (on a global level) if the Ressers suddenly unite and become the new leaders of Malifaux. It would just mean a change in administration (and a likely few ten thousand deaths) but that's not this important compared to the huge things going on which could actually destroy human and Neverborn reality/dimension and do other things.

Besides that "just a bunch of spree-killers without a goal?" is a rather good description for most factions. All "factions" are more or less a loosely tied bunch of mighty individuals -each with her own agenda - working together for a (more or less) limited time. The Guild could be seen as a more tightly run organisation but even that is far from a smoothly run business coordinated by a central management.

Paint a single Malifaux miniature in a single day, from sprue to varnish!

Whut?!?! 😱 How should this even be possible? I most likely will fail, here, when I look at my average 7-8 hours per model 😭 Especially so, as everything on my painting schedule for the month which is still on sprue are two Dead Dandies and those models are so grogeously detailed. So, see me announcing to fail on this month's challenge.
But beware! This will not keep me from painting.

Thanks for everybody participating, those almost daily updates in a shared painting process really give me the all needed motivational bump.

Would have to nerf something else, though.

Not sure if this was even needed if Lampads got Flaming Body as Burning on them already is a ressource. Outside of Draugr there is no exchanging Burning inbetween the crew.
With Burning Body the opponent would get an option of tactically draining Bruning from them (by dealing damage) and thus interfere with Reva's plan. I really like the idea as it would help removing some of the hand pressure from Reva's crew and shift it towards Burning as a ressource .

Also, compare the Draugr: they got something (a bit) similar with Blaze Of Glory (it's Def Tech as much a Off Tech) and even though they come with superior Df Stat and higher mobility they are considered more or less useless by a lot of competitive players.

Lampads as 8 Stones models with Flaming Body with no more changes still are mediocre in my book with Df4 and Attack Stats of 5. (For comparison: Fire Golem is a meager 2 points more than a Lampad)

  10. Why should it be a problem for competitive play when some models or play don't see as much play time as others (or none at all)? Isn't it part of what competitive gaming is about? Finding the one (per situation) perfect solution (for your play style)?

It's imho just natural that some models and even crews are kinda left behind in a competitive environment.

And I am no fan of two different cards for a model. Just feel uncomfortable with it.

  11. I imagine the Lampads not as your typical zombie-ish undead but more like a poor soul trapped in Reva's funeral flames. So, them not having H2W is fitting to my picture of them; have a look at the artwork/models, their Demise, the Hovering Flame action, and their fluff (them being sentient flames) (even though it mentions them "riding" dead bodies).
But some defensive tech is direly needed. It could be something similar to Incorporeal. Maybe Flaming Body would be fitting. Combined with a Stat bump, of course (c'mon, Wyrd, 8 Stones for a model with Df4 and Stat5 attacks? Really?).

I wish elemental transference was it's own ability, but expanded to affect all conditions. Basically remove a condition to gain a condition.  Or maybe even to remove a marker to place a marker. This would give them a pretty unique role if balanced properly

Something similar to the Transmutation Trigger of the Spelleaters? Would be cool.

Hi there, a bit late for the feedback, but i hope is welcome nevertheless.

I just want to add a couple of points to what has been already said, all of it very good advice.

First point is that the key to paint a mini is contrast (NOT THE PAINTS, but the concept! 😆 )

There's a lot of theory around better explained than what i'll mention here, but 101 is that you want to differenciate a lot the areas where the light hits from the areas that stay in the shadow.

And the more obvious is this difference the more the mini (or some details in the mini) will pop.  You can do that by going from dark to light, or form 1 color to another, and sometimes by combining both.

Check @Harlekin sybelle, in the top left picture is where is easier to see it, look at the pants, the corset or the feathers, they look great, and in all cases the color form the shadows is far from the colors in the illuminated areas. It goes from super dark to super light.

Another good example is on @Vessien Fuhatsu's face, zoom on it and see the cheekbones and the space right under the cheekbones.  Same with the nose & eyebrows vs the bit under the eyes.  the contrast in those areas is huge, that's why you can see the face perfectly form far away.

@Woody71 in your teddy you did it in the cotton that comes from his belly.  My eyes went straight away to the cotton when I looked at the mini, there's a gray at the bottom and goes to white or almost white on the light areas.  Nailed it! (also, killer job on his eyes too 👌 )

But then the color on the top of teddy's face is the same that the color on his underbelly, this makes the mini quite flat.  Since is quite a big surface it will be hard to work on it, but even some good ol' drybrushing will create an easy light effect (for those large areas get yourself a cheap big make up brush, and do very very light drybrushing as many times as you need until you are happy with the result) then add final touches in the most illuminated areas with a regular brush.

@Maogrim i really like the color scheme for the illuminated, is not easy to paint a mini with similar colors (browns in this case) and still separate the parts.  I like specially the rightmost illuminated.
The glow in the eyes as it has been said doesn't look right, when i have to do something like this I go to the internet and look for references, every single time, because is super hard to get it right, and the way the light behaves is sometimes counterintuitive, so better have a reference form a pro.  Doesn't need to be a mini, could be from any artwork, or picture.

Another very important point is keeping in mind what do you want to achieve with the paintjob.

Do you want to reach a super neat paintjob? or just want your minis to look great in the table?

Because if it's the first case yes, it makes total sense to spend a lot of time glazing and trying to get a transition between areas as neat as possible, but there's absolutely no need for perfect transitions on a great paintjob (see again vessien's fuhatsu armor, if you zoom in you can see the transitions perfectly, but is a super cool paintjob, it has the right brushtrokes in the right place with the right color, and it works 👌 )

I wasn't very hyped about the Kamaitachi, but then I tried to paint it adding the texture myself, with tiny brushstrokes fro the hair, and just trying this i've never done before (bc i'm too lazy) made the whole process more interesting and enjoyable

Very nice work on both models. I especially like the top-to-bottom gradient on the whole model (something I am still struggling a bit).
Really awesome fur/texture on the Kamaitachi. I can see the effort which went in. It definitely was worth it.
