  1. This month is still "the season of the oni" and I'll go for 3 x Yokai for 18ss The April Challenge 1. Use something to hold the mini. A cork, a paint pot, a pro mini holder (I use a plastic cylinder with some blue tag at the top). 2. Wet pallete, if you are not familiar with it, go investigate right now (again, there's pro ones, but i use just some sponge in a flat plastic container with some oven paper on top) 3. (First 2 are facts, this one is just an opinion) Paint the mini that you WANT to paint, not the one you HAVE TO. Motivation is key to make an extra effort and push your skills a bit further, which will make you improve
  2. Not just a great paint job, but i really love the consistency in colors among the minis with the reds, blues & purples, they look amazing all togheter πŸ‘ Would love to see some close ups of somer.
  3. That rooster's colors are insane, the chest and the feathers are top notch, you nailed it 🎩also, the base is not painted right? is just the sand & pebbles? looks great too @Stranglelove thanks for those kind words ^^. And yeah, the katashiros are great bombs, the game i played (i was very unlucky with their flips though...) but almost always 3 attacks? yes plese But the best part of the game was my opponent's face when i summoned a jorogumo right next to his master 😈
  4. @Caedrus those are really kind words! thanks! 😊 I really like your scion, this is a brave and spot on color combiantion, it really looks like some void magical stuff is going on there. Also i really appreciate those "red" experiments you did there. I did some "post archeaology" and found the one where i shared the photo setup: in this occasion (just bc i was lazy) the setup was simpler, just one lamp instead of 2, and no handkerchiefs for light softening - which in this case might have helped bc the light hit ama's lamp straight away and made it look even brighter πŸ€” @Wintergloom go ahead! glow always makes the minis pop a lot, and OSL is also great to practice regular lightning
  5. Nice setup! I have in mind doing a scenic base for my plague crew too, those days i have plenty of time, but... i lack the materials πŸ˜“
  6. Got myself 2 of them one intense (deep purple) and one regular (hull red). And i was super happy with the coverage. I did use them for "washes" and worked fine πŸ‘Œ True that one is in the intense range and the other is quite dark, i'd like to see results for lighter colors, I might try a lighter color in the future. On my experience so far, I'd recomend them.
  7. I might play it, mostly because I'm a really bad strategist, so since I'm gonna lose any way, I'd rather to lose in style playing with nice painted minis 😬 @Pastori the light source itself is always a PITA for myself specially whe is round, I was kinda lucky with this one, and definitely a good picture makes a good paintjob look even better. THe dark background and really low exposure in this one is key πŸ‘Œ I think i shared my "minis photocall" in some occasion, is pretty simple (black tshirt, same lamp i use for painting and phone camera) and the results make the minis look great.
  8. Hello there! Last paintjob for march, Ama No Zako with some OSL for 10ss
  9. @Caedrus @Nikodemus another way to get a super bright red is the other way around, make the base with fluo magenta, and use diluted red ink over it (the diluted part is just to have more control on the shade of red you ll end up having) how was the experiment btw? 😁
  10. It’s vallejo MC vermillion, plus several thin layers of vallejo MC magenta fluo (or neon?) the fluor colors have a weird texture and behavior and don t cover as good as the others, so at the end even the 3 to 5 layers i gave, it doesn t look magenta, but gives a lot of intensity to the red, which is already pretty intense by itself
  11. Amanjaku made it into march! Must be the season of the ONI... i spent quite a lot with OSL on his face, and is hard to apreciate in the regular pics, so i took a close up And a March group bonus pic so far
  12. Here’s my march pledge done! 2 x katashiro And since I have an unusual amount time bc of the quarantine I began with Amanjaku, and Ama No Zako is primed and ready, so i might begin her too 😬
  13. Going with 2 x Katashiro this month for 10ss! Had my 1st game with asami last week, fun crew, I ll try to go for a creepy/dark look for the whole ONI keyword, but with some shine somewhere, I like shiny minis 😁
  14. Looks great! how to you highlight the hair and thing hat? one by one or drybrush? I always have lots of troubles with thin details and can't seem to figure out the best way to work on them πŸ˜•
  15. Here's the finished Marlena Webster for 8ss @Barbercat where are those terrain buildings from?
  16. My pledge for February is Marlena Webster for 8ss and as a stretch goal maybe the hodgepodge effigy if i have time... 🀞
  17. Looks super cool, this choice of colors is bold and spectacular. Congrats. πŸ™Œ I have mine half assembled, i didn't assemble the rider bc i saw that his face would be too close to the ride head, and didn't assemble the wings bc i'm nbot sure i can assemble them before the raider, and after reading your advice i'm glad i haven't.
  18. @Nikodemus did you manage to finish the yasunori? i have one assembled myself, but it's such a nice mini that's kinda intimidating to paint, and your color approach was great, i'd really like to se more of it
  19. thanks! ^^ no close ups of the face though... πŸ™„ thank god, the hat and the cigar make this area pretty forgiving
  20. Benny Wolcomb done for 8ss With this guy, I've painted the whole "Plague" keyword πŸ™Œ painting the rats in the coat 1 by one was a PITA, glad is finally done ^^
  21. In January I'll paint my last Plague model, Benny Wolcomb (can you spot the cigarrette? >_< ) And once this guy is done I'm planning on doing an scenic base to fit all my Plague minis (26 of them if i've counted right 😬) But this will be for the february challenge, i hope an scenic base counts as terrain even if it's not playable
  22. @Caedrus i’m in too, cowardly sticking to Enforcer level, i’d rather paint more SS than fall behind ^^ thanks for keeping this up, looking forward o see what everyone brings to the challenge this year!
  23. Hello, i mistakenly posted this in the November thread... i’ll repost it here where it belongs 😬 β€” Hi there! Here's my last painted mini for the year, Barbaros was the chosen one this month, for 9ss: Looking forward to join the 2020 painting challenge, i'll most likely focus on TTs next year ^^
  24. Damn, you re right, that s what happens when you have too many tabs open in the browser XD. I ll repost it in the proper thread.
