  1. Caedrus, reporting in! So, the next few days are going to be crazily busy, so I'll do my wrap up a couple of days early! First, a couple of proxies! Starting off, the Beast of Caerbannog, also known as 4SS of Jackalope! The skeleton (except the skull) is green stuff, as is the horns on Tim's hood. I'm actually quite pleased with this piece. Second, 4SS of proxied Copycat Killer... The hat, gun, holster, dress and belt are all green-stuff. I think I need to tone down the hat's sheen. Otherwise, I'm happy. This little girl needs a friend. How about this girl? Miss Feasance! The face on this miniature is a bit of a sculpting mess; glad it's hidden beneath hair for the most part. I would have preferred the miniature without the dead-head-hair-pull-integral-base, but these things happen. Here's a photo of the happy girls! The bases don't match, but I'll let that slide. 15SS for this Miss. Time for another couple! Sonnia and Sam! and here they are together! These two were an eBay rescue (notice the gap in Sam's belt and Sonnia's shoulder), but they were fun to paint. I had to ditch the Crotch-Destroyer trap on Sam, and relocate his mallet (after shodding it with brass). Sam's a bit too brown, Sonnia's a bit too red (although it's not quite as saturated as the photo suggests), but overall, happy. 24SS for the couple. My last two? A couple more Guildsmen, in Taggart (8SS) and Stewie (6SS). Taggart Queeg is a very simple, elegant miniature. I wasn't able to get the face quite right, but overall, he'll do. The vest and pants are ScaleColor's Red Leather. Lovely colour. There are some fairly subtle pinstripes in there, too! The base fore both these Guildsmen is a bit plain, but they are no worse off for it, I think. Now, onto Stewie! The Guild Steward, to my eyes, is better without his book, ram's head, and quill. Now, he's even more arrogant, which suits him, I think! So, that's 57SS of Wyrd miniatures (I'm not counting the Jackalope) for September! I'm looking forward to seeing how all your works finish up for the month; I'll update the spreadsheet soon (in about a week), so make sure your final posts have an SS count, and please throw in an "@Caedrus"! See you all in October! Caedrus.
  2. In October, I'm pledging big: I've got a Piratey Toshiro, an Alternate Marcus and Myranda, a Cojo proxy and a Guild Rider, all in my Shelf of Shame! Have a great October! Caedrus.
  3. October is here! This is the thread for the October 2019 Monthly Painting Challenge. I’m Caedrus, and I’ll be your host for 2019. October's birthstone is the tourmaline and the opal. Time to paint something with the opalescent paints! Or, towards the end of the month, something spooky? The link to the painter spreadsheet is here, and I'll continue updating soon! The 2019 Wyrd Monthly Painting Challenge is all about: Having fun painting! Motivating yourself, and encouraging others. Being part of a great, friendly community. Giving and receiving constructive advice. And, finally: Getting some pigment onto plastic! This is not a competition in any way. The pledge categories are the following: Minion: you paint at least 1 soulstone worth of Malifaux miniatures each month Enforcer: you paint at least 6 soulstones worth of Malifaux miniatures each month Henchman: you paint at least 11 soulstones worth of Malifaux miniatures each month Master: you paint at least 16 soulstones worth of Malifaux miniatures each month Tyrant: you paint at least 31 soulstones worth of Malifaux miniatures each month The rules: The challenge started on January 1st, 2019. Models count for the month in which you finish them. You can finish painting a model that you started before the beginning of the month. Everyone may fail to make their monthly goal twice and stay in the challenge. This is using a mulligan. You can choose to go down a pledge level during the year, but you cannot move up. A model is considered painted if it is (1) based (even glued onto a black base counts); (2) tournament legal. That means that if it's a translucent, based model, it counts automatically. If it is any opaque material, then the standard is: Every part of the miniature painted, and three colours minimum. Miniature Values: Malifaux Almost all models count as their Soulstone value; but Masters count for 15 soulstones. Zero cost models count for 5 soulstones. Proxies (constructed from Wyrd models) count for their proxy value. The Other Side Titans count for 25 soulstones. Commanders count for 15 soulstones. Adjunct models count for 5 soulstones. Otherwise: A 30mm base model is worth 5 soulstones. A 40mm base model is worth 7 soulstones. A 50mm base model is worth 10 soulstones. Terrain Terrain is worth 5SS per 50mm base in area. Custom tokens are worth 5SS per 50mm base in area. A terrain board is worth 100 Soulstones. We're now using the Malifaux 3rd Edition values! How to upload images? Go to imgur.com, and create an account. Click on your account, click on 'images', and then 'add images'. Click on your uploaded image. You'll see a whole bunch of link options. Click on the 'copy' button next to 'direct link'. Go to your Wyrd Forum thread. Paste (CTRL-V) at the appropriate spot. The image should appear, resized appropriately to the page. My very best for October! Caedrus.
  4. @PetitDalek: Does 25SS sound fair? Also: Awesome!
  5. Caedrus, reporting in! As requested by @Butch, the month of September has had a Beastman painted in Black and White (with a coloured base so you can be certain of saturation levels). The majority of this was zenithal airbrush work. Some areas of fabric were stippled, and some paintbrush gradient work on the halberd. A quick job, but enjoyable! See you next month for a new challenge. Perhaps it's time to bust out the oil paints? Caedrus.
  6. Hi All, Hmm, I may have been sliiiightly too subtle in my attempt at humour. To be clear: I wasn't offended! Certainly, the Gremlins take much of their background from the Deliverance-esque hillbilly stereotype. I think you could certainly make an Australian Gremlin cohort, though! If McTavish couldn't be converted into a convincing Steve Irwin, I'd be surprised, as @Rathnard suggests. After reading @gertermit's post, I have to agree. The Mysterious Emissary could definitely be Australian 😂. @Myyrä: If I had to give a semi-serious response, in such an alternate history, I'd say that whoever first recognised Australia's natural resources would colonise it, quick-smart. Perhaps the Dutch? Finally, to follow on from Rathnard, my very subjective opinion is that Wyrd has represented a vast range of cultures, and educated me about some mythology that I wasn't aware of. I think that they are moving / have moved into a more culturally aware and safe place. l I think that it's important to recognise that many of their oldest characters are derived from an amalgam of the fictional and the (non-fictional) folklorish (Seamus, to me, is a Mad Hatter / Sweeney Todd / Jack the Ripper amalgam). Finally, and this is just one player's opinion: They're miniatures, that are fun to paint and play with. I love their individuality. I like the obtuse references. If I was offended by any miniature, based on any aspect of their appearance, name, cultural background or reference (and I am not), then I wouldn't buy it, or I'd proxy it, or I'd attack it with Green Stuff ☺️. I'm off to look up Samantha Thrace. I don't know that bit of lore! Caedrus, over and out.
  7. As an Australian, I'm offended by the lack of Australian Culture representation 😡. Wait, Australian Culture is an oxymoron. I'd like an entire faction dedicated to belligerent, aggressive, unwashed alcoholics with a bizarre fixation on alligators/crocodiles*. We could paint 'em in the Australian scheme: Green and a bit of gold. * Why is there no Gremlin Steve Irwin? That's a Nightmare model that would sell like crazy...
  8. Hi All, I've updated the spreadsheet, here. Apologies for the delay, and please do let me know if I have made any errors! Thanks!
  9. Here's what I'll be using as a Proxy!
  10. Caedrus, reporting in with a quick update! So, I've been chipping away, and taking a few moments of inspiration when they come. I've started the Proxy Copycat Killer, and I'm painting her along Miss Feasance for continuity. I powered through my Proxy Jackalope (the Rabbit of Caerbannog). Sonnia and Samael have been a bit slower. So many extra bits on Samael that needed to be removed before I was happy to start painting! Sonnia has dual-OSL that needs constant readjustment. I've nearly finished Queeg, and I was happy with his pinstripes, but his complexion is a bit too pale, I think. Finally, I got rid of the Guild Steward's Book and super-phallic Rams head (once you see it, you can't unsee it - sorry), and I sculpted in some ostentatious chains on his neck. So, that's where I am! I hope you're enjoying your September! Caedrus.
  11. @Purple Mist: I love everything about this miniature. What colour is the base for the back of the cloak? It's wonderful.
  12. @LeperColony: As a Colette main, I'm more than happy to be guided here: What would be your best estimate of need?
