  1. The mech rider is pretty scary with Marcus. You can have a crew with four models that have onslaught (+pouncing strike on Marcus and the jsckalope) and the rider can pulse out automatic masks for everyone within 6" giving you a pretty nice offensive turn.

As I understand it, some people are suggesting that Perdita's Gunfighter alters her ability so that she can ignore ranged restrictions, but doesn't actually make it a melee attack?

If this is the case, she cannot attack after charging. She only may take a melee attack action after a charge (not a ranged attack with melee range).

I think treating the attack as anything but a melee attack breaks the game a bit.

I think they are saying she is treating it as a claw for all intents and purposes but Tara for example would still treat it as a gun kind of how the attack is a Sh duel for Perdita but a Df duel for Tara.

  3. I only have some McMourning stuff since last edition but ended up with a couple of random models like Archie and the emissary that I haven't built yet.

Archie doesn't have poison interactions but seems to compare really well to the emissary and rogue necromancy since he has more mobility and flurry. Switching Rafkin or Sebastian to Archie also seems worth it for all the extra oomph. I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what to build first to get into the new McMourning.

  4. @Starrius

Power tokens only do what your card tells you to do with them, they have no inherent effect. Joss' axe will ignore reductions if you discard a power token, that's why the axe allows you to do that when you declare an attack with it. Spiders and stuff with no rules on their card for the tokens only allow Hoff to use the tokens off them.

I guess we can then wrap up this topic by saying that Guild has no hard counters against anything at all. Jury against crews that like to get buried a lot comes close, but even that isn't a hard counter.

I think both the Jury and Sonnia would qualify as hard counters to certain mechanics in the context of Malifaux. I think you're setting a ridiculously high bar but our highjacking of this topic is getting a bit silly so I'll concede to whatever the hell you want. ;)

If my opponent declares the Dreamer I would strongly consider adding the Jury out of keyword.

  6. The topic is hard counter models so we're going to be discussing singular models. If Sonnia ignoring armour doesn't fit the bill of a hard counter to an armored crew that wants to be near each other I don't know what fits that description... 🤔

Hoffman seems to brutally counter Sonnia. Not sure if there are other crews whose survival depends on not getting slammed in the face with 100 tons of steel, but Sonnia is the postergirl for the style.

Seriously, she isn't great at dealing with fast moving, hard hitting melee models, especially if she doesn't bring LLC.

I'm pretty sure multiple keywords aren't fans of metal to the face. Sonnia puts out more ap damage by herself than most of the stuff I've seen so far. My opponent picked the Armour ignore upgrade on his lone marshal and that dude did about half the damage in his entire LJ crew. Sonnia already has the suit for the trigger.

I guess that upgrade is a pretty anti-Hoffman pick she just meshes so well with it.

  8. Since Toss choses a direction and knows all ranges before starting to push I think you should be forced to pick a legal place to end it if it's possible in that direction. As far a I know an incorporeal model isn't allowed to try and stop in the middle of a house for a free push out of it when it pushes voluntarily? Ending before the maximum range because you can't move cleanly past something with a maximum push should qualify as having the push interrupted though. I guess this is more "common sense" than actual rules quotes.

They are one of the best models in the game tying up an enemy. Remember, Wicked allows you to resolve effects as normal. This includes triggers. So, when an enemy Disengages you can declare the Reposition trigger to damage them, then follow them after the push to keep them engaged. If you are in base with an enemy and get the Reposition trigger, they need to be Mv 6 and push directly away to escape.

Sadly they lack Adaptive Evolution, which I think is my singular vote for errata

If you moved into base contact they'll need a move stat of 5 to get away (if you hit the trigger that isn't built in).

  10. It mostly disrupted my game plan a bit making me lose by a single point when terrifying used to be so easy to handle (especially with Perdita making everyone wp 8 and ignoring all duels herself in m2e). I have trouble adapting to all the changes and reading the power of the revised abilities.

With my limited model selection I had crap schemers and had intended to clear out his big threats and win the Strat but I ended up almost tabled despite him allocating 20ss to just scheme run around the edges while I went full power bubble in the center. I thought I would be able to handle half a crew at least. 😅

Also, re alps. They are squishy and likely worth killing first.

But overall, Chompy is a glass cannon once you get past terrifying. Two hits of four and he is dead, which should be doable once you deal with the minus flips (focus and kill alps).

Don't get me wrong. It is a brutal crew. But I think you'll get there.

Yeah, it was probably the alp or hard cover that gave me the minus. I kind of left the alp because I was feeling swamped and I tried going for a kill shot with zero cards in hand which healed chompy but then I forgot it and did it again. 😅

@Scoffer I have the marshal so I could try that once I paint him.

  12. @Maniacal_cackle it was reckoning so I had to take down Chompy and a Teddy before they snacked through my entire crew while also weathering a few stitched togethers. It was mostly Perdita and Francisco who were making horror tests since my go to with terror from m2e would be to have a single model pass the test and churn out attacks. Being the Ortegas meant pretty much every attack had focus but the damn terror duel isn't affected by that and between hard to wound, summoned alps and bleeding cards I had trouble getting decent damage in.

  13. I only have a few games in m3e but so far terrifying is killing me.

Under the old rules the black joker would waste a lot of your ap if you were unlucky but unless that happened you only cheated once and took that model out with a plethora of attacks from the same one or two models. These days I find I'm losing a ton of attacks from failing stupidly low terrifying tests. An example would be Francisco trying to kill Chompalomps in my last game. Franc has flurry and a trigger for more attacks and I spent a few ap from other models obeying him but my hand was depleted super early since I had to cheat terrifying duels for both him and Perdita on every attack I made apart from already wanting to discard for more actions and wanting to cheat for triggers. I think I ended up failing three or four terrifying tests in a single turn when under the old rules most of those attacks would have been declared without terrifying tests.

How am I supposed to adapt to this change (apart from picking ruthless models) and have others noted similar effects of the new terror rules?

  14. If you want to do a crew swap tournament then go ahead, I wouldn't sign up for something like that because games would take forever. I can play my own crews because I've practiced with them, I can't keep track of how I would want to play every last crew in the game.

Fun alt formats for me would be: a master triad, a single master per player and of course a single master for the event that everyone must play in every game. :)

6 pages and noone is offended by magic and witchcraft in Malifaux. No true Christians here?

    There's a reason I played Sonnia for a long time. Purge the non-believers! 😉

@Kharnage I don't really mind the model itself, I procured the metal Nekima for obvious reasons. I just don't need women around me giving me even weirder looks when they come across my hobby stuff for whatever reason. I don't want Kingdom Death to be the first thing that shows up when people Google miniature games either even if I kind of dig many of the minis personally.
