  1. For Wyrd to release plastic copies of the old models would be a missed opportunity IMO. Different people obviously like different things, and I consider change to be the same as choice. Who complained when the alt sculpts came out? I personally prefer a lot of the new art to the old. I would never have bought old McMourning: his feet were too big. Now I will. I will however continue to use my Alt Raspy. It's too nice a model, and fits the christmas theme of my december crew a lot better than the original or plastic sculpts will.
  2. I used to only buy brushes from gaming stores, but really you'd be better to shop around. My current brushes are Pro Arte PROLENE brushes that my wife bought me for christmas from the local art store. They're great, and have held their tips much better than any modelling brushes I've ever owned.
  3. Well here's a better picture of Sidir: Sidir fin by zachos2, on Flickr Flesh Recipe: First a few words on method. I always do one area at a time, and plan out the progression I'm going to make. This keeps everything tidy and easy to pack away, as well as just being good practice generally. I tend to line up my paints I'm going to use from left to right going from dark to light, as that is how I think of the progression: With most colours I only use three different shades, and a wash to help blend the colours together. For my flesh this time I'm using Bugman's glow, Cadian Fleshtone and Dheneb Stone. I try to avoid using white as much as possible in my recipes. If the colour needs a very light high tone I'll mix in some Dheneb Stone if it's a warm colour or Ulthuan Grey if it's a cold colour. For this healthy skin I'm using Reikland fleshshade for my ink. Having undercoated the model in black and given it a light white spray to pick out the features, I then do several thin coats of Bugman's Glow. Really get it into the cracks and don't worry if you go on any other parts. You'll be painting over them later anyway. I then paint the wash into the recesses and leave to dry. A word on palettes. I use MTG promo cards as my palettes as it means I can throw them away after each use and don't have to bother washing them. This image shows how I blend. First put a blob of water onto the palette and mix in your darkest colour. Now about an inch away add another blob and mix in your second darkest (Bugman's Glow and Cadian Fleshtone in this case). Now take your brush and drag the lighter into the darker and begin swirling it around. This will give you a range of mid tones at your fingertips and will allow you to blend quickly and easily without having to dip back into the pots. Having leyered in two midtones and pure Cadian Fleshtone, taking care to only attack areas where light would hit, I then gave all of the flesh areas a watered down Reikland Fleshade to better tie the colours together. Apply it all over, but use your brush to move most of the pigment to the areas where shadows would naturally be. After the wash has dried, two final very sparing highlights of Cadian Fleshshade and Cadian Fleshshade mixed with a dot of Dheneb stone are added to extreme places such as the cheekbones, chin, nose and knuckles. Finally Reikland fleshshade is added sparingly to the recesses and the flesh is finished. Hope this is helpful to someone. I use the painting concepts here across the board for all of my colours: Very rarely will I use more than three colours and a wash when painting. C&C welcome. All the best. Zac
  4. Sorry about that Wings, completely missed your reply. Thanks for the complement, I've just finished him, and he was great fun. A quick late night photo in bad light: Sidir fin by zachos2, on Flickr Expect better pictures tomorrow, and at some point my supersimpleskin technique.
  5. There is an Arcanist deck in the pipeline, and the black joker will have a certain Raspuntina-ness to it for when you are playing with Decembers Pawn...
  6. When buying your brushes, it's better to get three good quality brushes that will hold their point than to get all of the different sizes of brush under the sun. Most of my painting is done with just two sizes of brush, and a third for very very fine detail. That one only comes out for the eyes and mouths etc. For everything else, just use the point of your thicker brushes.
  7. I started with Raputina as my master, mostly because it was the cheapest starter set. Then I was commissioned to paint two arcanist, a gremlin and a ten thunders crew, which means I'm in the mood for something different, hence my second crew being guild. I'd quite like a Ramos crew once the new models are released, but will be painting a few more cowboys before then. Generally I think that as a breed gamers are butterflies. We flit from one place to the next, but will often return to the place we once were. I'll definitely back here when plastic showgirls come out.
  8. How about the upgrade that gives them Terrifying (undead)? Maybe it's like that one?
  9. The hint from eric was that the flaming heads are an option that comes on the sprue.
  10. That will be mine for sure...
  11. Does that mean the second attack vould also generate a movement trigger, allowing 8" of movement?
  12. That is a very good question, and I'm afraid I'm not sure. Eric or Nathan will have to talk us through the implications of it all, as this is really something we've fallen into. Still waiting to hear back from them at the moment. I assume they've got something important happening. Can't imagine what... Other news is that today we placed an order for our first pack. We've found a place that allows us to have high quality plasticated cards, so we've ordered one to test the water. Legion will very soon own the very first Rams Ascendant deck... Thanks for the interest guys. Knowing people would buy these is great for us. A good incentive to do the best we can.
  13. The £1 price tag is spot on by the way. Makes me feel happy about supporting an awesome magazine (and contributors), while not making me feel done over by the adverts. Having said that, many of the adverts make for good reading as well. I like how they seem to come from an interested but mostly neutral standpoint.

    4M Wrap Up

Sounds like you all had great fun. Definitely an event I'd consider going to. For the dead masters, how about this: If a unique model is dead at the end of the game, flip a card: Weak: That model has been captured by the opposing crew and must be ransomed back before being used again by your faction. Moderate: That model is badly hurt, but will survive. They will start the next game they are used in with half wounds. You may spend 2 SS to gain full wounds during the "hire crews" step. Severe: That model has healed fully and can be used as normal Black joker: That model is captured by the opposing team. If they are ransomed back they will enter the next game on half wounds. Red joker: That model has healed well, and the carnage around them has re-charged one of the dead soulstones they had on their person. The next time this model is used, their controller gains to extra soulstones in the "hire crew" step.
  15. Do you always paint skin tones first? What is your reasoning behind the order you've chosen to paint the models in? Great work by the way...
  16. Been waiting for this. Was not disappointed!
  17. Might this be Nightmare Tara?
  18. @Webmonkey: Thanks chap. I'm really enjoying these models. So much awesome in tiny bits of plastic. @Viruk: That means a lot mate. Thanks for the encouragement. @Emperors Chump: Thanks for the complement. I'm already looking back at my first board and thinking it needs to be updated. I always find once I've done something I need to redo the stuff I did first. So you've noticed it's changed have you? I was trying something new with Sidir, as I wasn't 100% on my previous recipe. I'll do a step by step on one of the wastrels when I paint them up.
  19. Really like these. They're great little models (I painted the starter set as a commision a while ago). How did you find them? I enjoyed all of the characters, but found the kobolds pretty boring by the end.
  20. The white was good enough (hooray). Now onto the red: Wip2 by zachos2, on Flickr Sorry about the quality of photos. I'm taking these as I go along, so the phone is the easiest way to do that. C&C welcome as always. Zac
  21. WIP by zachos2, on Flickr Is the next stage of the crew. Coming along OK, although painting light grey is just as tough as painting white, especially on cloth. I'll see what he looks like tomorrow in better light. C&C welcome. Don't forget to visit the custom fate deck to see more finished artwork.
  22. Well guys, thanks for all the interest so far. Here's the finished cardback to whet your appetites a bit more: Cover by zachos2, on Flickr The entire deck is sitting ready to go to the printers: Legion is in contact with them, and I've messaged Eric and Nathan about the possibility of selling, so we're waiting to hear back from them before moving any further with this deck. While we're waiting Legion is project managing the outcast deck (Most Wanted), and I'm beginning planning a resser deck (The diary of Phillip Tomburs, Deceased, as dictated to Ms Molly Squidpiddge, Deceased). Our intention is to do all factions, although each one will be quite different in style. We've already learned a lot in making this first deck (don't add any effects before porting into photoshop), and I'd really love to develop my artistic skills with each deck. I can already see a difference between the first sketches I did on this project and the last. Anyway, thanks for the support so far. Any suggestions for the upcoming decks, now is the time to mention it: We tend to do hobby weekends so will go from concept to product in a couple of days. All the best. Zac
  23. I'd be tempted to replace the "third floor" with "back rooms", like the corridor mentioned in some of the fiction in book four. That way you can have a progression through the board, something like: Sewers -> Basement -> Back Rooms -> Salloon bar This gives you the bar and sewers as the two deployment zones (They are also the obvious points of entry for two gangs), and the Basement and Back rooms as "middle of the table". You could also add points of travel such as Salloon bar -> Basement through a trap door behind the bar, and Back Rooms -> Sewers through a broken toilet/some other plumbing. That's how I'd do it anyway. Sounds like a fun project.
  24. Well, thanks to a combination of inaction and RL problems I haven't finished. I'll post up how far I got later today, and will join in next competition with the aim of getting further.
  25. The main reason we aren't selling these is the legal issues, in that we'd need to get permission etc. If there were enough demand we might be tempted to do a short run with wyrd's permission. As for having a go yourself, I was at how easy everything was to do. There are loads of websites that will allow you to make your own decks.
