    M2E Scale

I disagree with this. The rule for head sizes is 7 heads make up the full height of an average human. This is the case with the Viks, you're comparing them to Vanessa who's head is 1/8th her total height. She has a small head, the Viks don't have big ones.

    M2E Scale

This was about even with the last set of plastics. Put the three torakage together and see what I mean. Same with the Guild pathfinder and guild riflemen.
  3. I've been planning to do this as well. So far I've worked out my guild: Theme: wild west Justice crew: graveyard Perdita: swamp Sonnia: ghost town Lucas: standard desert Hoffman: rusting scrap The things that I'm not so sure about are McMourning and lucius.
  4. I know that artists are meant to be self deprecating, but seriously, you have no right to be. These models are awesome, and I can't wait to see the finished product.
  5. Enough talk! Pictures already!
  6. We were thinking of Red Joker: Hamelin (Fluff has him as ridiculously powerful, able to deal with Nicodem, Justice and Kirai at the same time). Rams: Von schill and the FreiKorps (Schill is pretty much hard as nails) Masks: Viktorias and the hired swords (Mostly cause of sword vik) Tomes: Levi (kind of a cross between Ramos and a resser, was going to be crows until...) Crows: Tara (Dual faction ressers. Choice made itself) Black Joker: Jack Daw. May be overdone, but he is an outcast, and won't be in any of the other decks. What's peoples opinion on this?
  7. @Edonil: I didn't really cost count with the case. It was very much a "This needs to be done, for awesome, so it shall be done". As I said, I'm gonna be building a couple more, so maybe I'll do a tutorial with them. @Guardian: Thanks. It's part one of a long road to making the most awesome Malifaux playing experience possible. @Anfalas: The board is great fun, but no-where near finished. We've played a few games that have showed us what else we need to do with it, and we're also planning on adding little areas of interest in each of the squares. @Vin: Thanks for the compliment. Got a chance last week to sit down and finish painting the other two Wastrels. Here they are: Wastrels by zachos2, on Flickr Not as keen on these two models. Probbaly the weakest of the set IMO. Definitely prefer the Irish looking one. Still miles better than any other company has produced though. C&C welcome. Zac
  8. When my wife and I started dating, I had long hair. It was often unkempt, and a little bit greasy and went precisely 0% of the way towards my aim of making me look like Aragorn. About a week into going out I got my hair cut: I had some job interviews I needed to go to, and frankly I was fed up of being mistaken for a girl from behind. For about the first day my then girlfriend struggled to hold my hand when we went out. It didn't matter that I looked actually objectively better (some men can carry off ponytails and I'm not one), I just wasn't HER Zac anymore. Which is to say: The good thing about going different from the originals is of course that now every master will have multiple models to choose from. I would never have played Raspy if it weren't for the alt sculpt. Wouldn't have picked up Sonnia if not for this remake. Just gonna choose whichever model I like best for each one.
  9. I've been thinking about how to do a pine box without freaking people out. How do you think the average con crowd would react to a guy carrying around a coffin?
  10. Thanks again Viruk. The highlighting doesn't show greatly in these photos, but I was wary of going too green: I didn't want him to look like a leprechaun, just the kind of person that enjoys a guinness and a fight... But I have a bit of a problem. I painted my favourite Wastrel model first, and now I'm struggling to get the motivation to finish the other two. A word to the wise: always have a reward ready for when you've finished the models you struggle with. I normally do this by rewarding myself with the squad leader/HQ/master. I have failed to do this this time around. So here are some little bits that I've been doing while trying to get my head in the right frame of mind: The Irish Wastrel has now been based. I decided to do all three bases before doing the other wastrels. Couldn't cope with having him sitting there on his cork. In the current edition, a pathfinder eats dead people, so corpse counters are needed. And here are some of mine: I'll need to make some more of course, but a few at a time will do me. I'll need a bunch more when I finally pick up McMourning. And now the special leather thing you may remember from page 1: My Custom Carry Case: It's coated in black leather and has weathered brass corners. The inside is lined with red baize (the stuff that covers poker tables), and contains everything I need to play a game of Malifaux. It has a false bottom with the models stored in foam underneath the tray... A second box inside has my fate deck and my laminated model cards. The latter will fit a lot better with the standard size used in M2E. Other things included in the case: A wooden range ruler; A chinograph pencil for making notes on the laminated cards; a normal pencil and notebook for further notes; two test tubes of jelly bean/soulstones; two cheat cards for M1.5 (laminated again) and a wanted poster, with a rare image of a dangerous criminal. And the tray flips over to become a display board. Like so ^ C&C welcome, I'm planning on building some more of these, all slightly different so your thoughts on what else might be needed would be rather useful. All the best. Zac
  11. I've decided I'm gonna start by owning all of the plastic guild models. That will then give me a crew from ressers, ten thunders and neverborn, plus I'll get a Ramos box so they can share the constructs between Ramos and Hoffman.
  12. I'm definitely gonna try adding blues to my skintones now. Can't wait to pick up some death marshalls and give it a whirl.
  13. Sidir face by zachos2, on Flickr Here is a close up on the face of my Sidir. The method I used on his flesh is in my project log here: link
  14. You're probably down on replies because you only asked "wonderful painters". As a breed artists are self-deprecating and will shy away from describing themselves as anything better than "still learning". As for how I paint faces, they're similar to other areas in that you want to get the lighter bits on the higher places and the darker bits on the lower areas. looking at high contrast images of peoples faces will give you a good idea of where to put the right paints, and a simple three colour recipe should work quite well: Dark, light and wash. Hope this helps. Zac
  15. Ok guys I've solved it! If you don't like M2E play 1.5 with your friends. Whew. That was tough.
  16. Just to be clear, this is not necessarily something they will want to do. According to copyright law, it is your responsibility to protect your own IP, and if someone were to post the 1.5 ruleset without Wyrd doing something to stop them, then pretty much all of their patents and IP would be anyone's. Eric doesn't want to sue anyone, but would have to in order to protect his entire company, or they would lose everything. That is the danger Malifaux Classic is to Malifaux 2.0: If it's posted online for free and Wyrd does nothing about it, then the company loses all of its IP.
  17. New photo means double posting is Legit, right? Wastrel1 by zachos2, on Flickr Finished the first of my wastrels. This guy got more green on him than anyone else in this crew is likely to get, as he looked quite irish from the sculpt, so I decided to go the whole way and give him a green suit and hat, with ginger hair. I love how the models have so much character that I sometimes get inspired enough to do something different with them. The green wasn't too far off the beaten track of course. With Red being the accent colour of my guild models green shades and washes have found their way into a lot of my browns and greys, what with it being complementary to red and all. I think I'll probably base all three wastrels together once they're done, so for now this guy will be waiting while I get back to painting... C&C welcome, as always Zac
  18. This is where it gets interesting. Scenery is great, but seeing how people make boards makes me most excited. Will you be using some kind of water effect on the recessed areas?
  19. Hooray for pictures and progress! Of course if you don't come through with it then no ice cream for you. As for the procrastinating, I know I could've painted my whole crew by now if these forums didn't exist.
  20. I've started listening to this, and am having to listen in small amounts. Firstly thanks for putting your thoughts down on "paper". I feel that a few of your "counter arguments" are a bit straw man, but I wasn't there for the original arguments. If anything can make arguments like that it's the internet. The podcast does sound a lot like a Therapy session: your title is spot on. It's true that the closer you get to something the more it is able to hurt you. This is true of relationships, game systems and short swords. Your dedication to this game has put you in a very vulnerable position during the change, as you're extremely close to it all. People like me who are learning to play are unlikely to feel as strongly about it all as those of you who have been teaching these past few years. I hope that having aired your thoughts will allow you to enjoy M2E a little bit more, and that maybe you will find some more of what you love in the rpg as well. I would like to draw a parallel here if I may. Mass effect three ending. It was a strange experience for me that the gamers demanded a different ending from published. As a culture we treat our games differently to any other media: we want a tailored experience. Wyrd were very cool about having an open beta. They want to make a game which people like and which isn't immediately broken. At the end of the day though, it is still a Wyrd game. They will be judged by it, and so they will make it the very best they can, in their own opinion. The fact that their very best game is not the same very best game as yours is not their fault, and they should not be hated for it, in the same way that the mass effect 3 writers should not have been hated for publishing the game they wanted to publish. As a thought exercise, I would ask Nix: what do you think people would be complaining about if the editions had gone 2, followed by 1.5? All the best, and in hope of a good conversation.
  21. @0777218: Thanks dude. First tutorial I've ever written, I hope it comes across OK. @Durek: Cheers. Like I said, most of the guild will use red to a certain extent. I'm enjoying finding ways of fitting it in in small amounts so that it doesn't overpower the models. I'm keen that my guild should look like they're from a western, and I hope that's coming across. @Viruk: Thanks. I was worried Sidir would look out of place being so white amongst the other members of the crew. I think he ties in well enough with the red though. The larger base helps to bring more brown to the model as well. I'm not sure I made it clear in what I wrote, as I said above it's my first tutorial, but the model shown is not finished at all. The flesh is the first thing I painted after undercoating and the rest is just left the black/white of the undercoat. One of the tasks I've set myself this time around is in fact to use as little black and white as possible beyond the undercoat. Even my riflemen on page one are a mixture of different very dark greys and browns.
  22. The kneeling death marshall looks like he might be on a 40mm base...
  23. Ok, sorry I missed that. What duel faction models do the arcanists have then? Is Mei Feng it?
  24. Quick thought: Is the kneeling death marshall on a bigger base?
  25. Hoffman has the same right to be a dual Arcanist as Marcus has to be a dual Resser. Both are chums with a member of the other faction, both can use some models from the other faction, but absolutely no intererest beyond their own particular sphere. Giving him the ability to take any construct would be the obvious move here. I'd also love to see English Ivan as an official character. The wash house would be a very cool "leage of extraordinary gentlemen" style crew that would give some interesting options to the arcanists as a faction. Dual faction with outcast would be the obvious choice in this case.
