  1. The fact that this response was even needed is sad. The malifauxclassic initiative reeks of unjust entitlement. The lack of civility, the lack of respect, and the overall passive aggressiveness of some 1.5 stalwarts toward wyrd and the community in general is shocking. It has taken a divided community, and in forcing the issue, torn an even deeper gash in a wound that needed time to mend. It all seems to be rooted in this need (be it conscious or subconscious) for one side or the other to prove itself right. Given the chance and proper time frame, Wyrd might have opted to support a classic line or endorse fan based support, the method in which malifauxclassic has been pursued is ill-timed at the very least. Let M2E launch, let gencon pass, find an opportune time to purse such a mission. Do so with open communication and try to actually compromise to find a deal that both sides are amiable toward. Anyway, I say bravo to Eric and Wyrd. Your response to this unfortunate episode is entirely justified.
  2. I wonder if different upgrade cards will be available depending on what faction you announce. So in ressers, he's still all necro/summoning/murder. While in guild, he could be more a support/healing/buffer. I would help enforce that double identify that he is living.
  3. Its not about making loads of cash or covering the entire cost of development - its about offsetting that cost. Making existing customers buy the faction decks for stat/upgrade cards rather than giving them away free does that. Between the rule book, faction decks, and new starters - spread between returning players and the attraction of new customers - wyrd needs to cover its development cost, as well as, cover the cost of post-release support - errata and such - and profit enough to warrant continued and expanded development of their product lines. That's how we start to see new products like Puppet Wars and Malifaux rpg and so on. In general, as a gross simplification, I would say selling the new rulebook covers the development of the core rule set. Selling new starters covers the cost of retooling and resculpting them in plastic. Selling faction decks covers the cost of redesigning stat card and creating upgrade cards for each model. I just find it unreasonable to expect or demand free pdfs for M2E. I've got 7 factions to potentially update. I can do that as quickly or as slowly as I desire. If my budget is so tight that I can't afford updating all 7 at once, I'm probably involved in the wrong hobby, but I can still start with just the core rules and the faction deck of my most numerous faction. Honestly, the cost of potentially updating all 7 is fairly trivial in the grand scheme compared to my existing investment of time and money in Malifaux. For me, retaining the functionality of my full Malifaux collection will be less than the cost (time & money) of jumping to a new game. Free pdfs for everything would be great, but I just don't think its a reasonable expectation.
  4. I think it would be amusing to see even heavier cross factioning. Lady Justice = Pure guild Perdita Ortega = Gremlin Sonnia Criid = Outcast Hoffman = Arcanist Lucius = Neverborn McCabe = Ten Thunders McMourning = Ressers
  5. I imagine they'll continue to provide the rules in pdf form as they do now, unless they decide to include a set of quick start rules in every starter box. I imagine that if and when errata is needed for cards - that subset of cards will again be available for free online. That's basic post-release product support - providing free corrections and fixes. Providing all the stat cards and upgrade cards for old models free does not strike me as a smart business move. That's a lot of development time to revamp the rules and rebalance every existing model. Not a cheap effort. This is no longer post-production errata; its a new release, so I don't find it unreasonable to expect to pay to update all 7 of my factions to 2nd edition. If they do provide free pdf cards, great, but it screams of false entitlement to expect and/or demand such of Wyrd. Seriously?? How about because it costs a great deal of time and money to not only develop a revamped set of rules but to rebalance and modify every model for those new rules. That is not a trivial cost. Providing rules errata to fix and correct what is broken is one thing, to provide free rules for every model is an entirely different situation. The two cases are not equal. Buy a car. If there is a defect in the car that requires a service recall, it will be free. That is post-release support such as card/rules errata or free software patches to fix bugs. If something breaks due to wear and tear, you expect to pay a maintenance fee to replace everything that's broken and keep the car running and usable through the years. This is equivalent to updating to a new edition - you keep your core but freshen it up so it continues to be usable. Alternatively, you don't do any maintenance and grind that car into the ground - ie: continue to use 1.5 rules - it won't be as pretty or polished, but its still functional - just like a junker of a car. Finally, a new model of the same car comes out, you expect to pay for it. This is equatable to the release of new plastic starter kits. They are nice, but probably not necessary.
  6. I'm guessing the faction decks with include stat cards and upgrade cards, in which case I can't imagine them being given away for free. I think too many people feel entitled to free pdfs. The reason pdfs of cards are available are due to errata releases. Far easier than having to reference an errata sheet. Yet not all models have free cards online because they don't have updated rules. Its a limited subset available free for a very specific reason. This does not equates to every second edition card available for free. A free card update for errata is a part of post release development costs (fixing bugs, clarifying wording, etc); its not something you do with a new product release. You're getting a full revamp & a new upgrade system not just some card errata. The reason free rules are available is because the starter sets don't include them, I can see that continuing with second ed. Redeveloping and rebalancing an entire line of miniatures is not cheap, why is it so unreasonable to pay them for their work? Also, speaking as someone who does dabble in every faction, if you've already invested in multiple factions, the investment of buying every faction deck shouldn't be a major concern. Its a nominal fee compared with the previous investment. Think of it as a maintenance fee to continue playing every faction. Alternatively, buy 1 or 2 of your favorites and pick up the rest later if and when desired. The cost is completely relative to the size of investment you've already made and how deeply you desire to continue playing every faction. If you can't spare the funds to buy new faction decks, then you are probably in the wrong hobby to begin with.
  7. This was answered in one of the other podcasts. Red joker = severe + weak damage instead of extra extra flip and opponent can not cheat. With the rule changes, particularly to soulstones, it seems that masters are weaker offensively but more survivable. Do the developers feel the level of lethality and risk remain in tact? Has there been a shift in the balance between the importance of a model's stats and luck of the fate deck? Do (0) actions still exist along with abilities like instinctual? Are totems part of the peon classification? Have totems been revamped at all?
  8. From theWarStore slated for June. Looks like ressers are the focus on the first story encounter pack.
  9. Did not think to grab a pic before assembling. I will say that trying to attach yan lo's beard to his chin sucks. Hopefully that is the last microscopic part i have to deal with
  10. no chi card did get an extra ashigaru card though.
  11. Exact opposite of how i read that section. The action you have the option to take is specified as written to be block. The effect of opting to attempt a block is to make a melee strike. That strike is termed a disengaging strike. Nowhere does it state that the effect of a disengaging strike is a block effect. The effect of a successful disengaging strike is to immediately end the action of the disengaging model. Disengaging strike is basically just a clarification mechanically of how a block attempt is resolved and the various limitation imposed on the strike - no triggers no damage. A disengaging strike isn't being done to cause a block effect; a disengaging strike is the game mechanic of how a block attempt is resolved. Action: attempt to block Resolution: by making one melee strike, called a disengaging strike, targeting that enemy model Limitation to Action: Models being Pushed, Placed, or Switched cannot be blocked Von Schill's ability specifies, just as with push/place/switch, that he cannot be blocked. This trumps the usual float/flight rules which do permit disengaging strikes if starting the movement engaged in melee.
  12. Masamune is actual the name of a famous Japanese swordsmith. Same goes for Muramasa. Many video games, particularly in the rpg genre, have traditionally used these names for swords.
  13. That's the impression I got as well. Chompy roaring to terrify some poor hapless soul who is cowering in fear before him. Kind of like Nightmare model of Cryx from Warmachine. Alternatively, I envision him roaring in triumph standing above some sacrifice to his glory. Poorly shot picture of what I pulled off.
  14. Definitely found it best to use his speed for objective grabbing first - reclaim malifaux or whatever. Take your time, be patient, and strike out when absolutely needed. Its tough to resist an early alpha strike, but it usually doesn't make the most of collodi. It also tends to be pretty easy to out activate your opponent with all the low cost dolls. Activating Collodi and the marionettes late in the turn can help mitigate potential retaliation.
  15. Almost forgot, Tuco is the name of the "Ugly" character from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Seems to fit that western vibe. Avatar Nico resembles Baron Samedi
  16. Graves and Tannen remind me of Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar from Neil Gaimen's Neverwhere. The description of the pair in the graphic novel adaptation seems particularly fitting. The pair of Graves and Tannen also harken back to the Spawn comic and the characters of Sam and Twitch in their physical characteristics.
  17. only part goes over the top starting to curve back toward shang's head. it connects under the main tail, but the left branch of the sub-tail curves up behind and back forward between parts of the main tail. Quick ms paint - sprayed red over main tail to try and show where the sub tail goes
  18. part of it slots over the top of the main tail. It will sit between the 4th and 5th flame curving back toward shang's head.
  19. Good to see a vid on the new minis. Especially nice to see some of them painted up. Some of the gaps are rough. Vertical part joins like on hungry and yamaziko just seem like a poor design choice. Much harder to mask without grabbing some green stuff.
  20. +1 to this. It also helps serve as a bit of a gap filler. I was rather impressed with how effective and quick it made assembling the plastics.
  21. I really love the variety of options 10T is bringing to the table. The diversity in crew selection is really interesting. I think Yin could provide a lot of fun in some 10T crews. Toshiro as well since he opens up ashigaru and punk zombies. Clockwork traps should be a solid 2pt model. Ten Thunders Crew - 35 - Scrap Jakob Lynch -- 4 Pool Hungering Darkness [0ss] Ashigaru [4ss] Ashigaru [4ss] Ashigaru [4ss] Ashigaru [4ss] Ashigaru [4ss] Stitched Together [5ss] Toshiro, the Damiyo [8ss] Another Lynch crew I'm interested in trying out. Lynch provides access to the cards/crows desired by Toshiro and the ashigaru. Stitched provides some mobile cover from ranged attacks. Probably not an optimal list, but it should be good for a laugh.
  22. Yeah definitely looks like it should be a neverborn crew with only Yamaziko being the outlier, but Jackob is always able to hire stitched, any woes, and anything with brilliant if I remember right. Legal in the crew creator :1_Happy_Puppet2: Should be fun to have Yamaziko hang back buffing WP and tossing out a heal flip or two. That +2 WP buff should be pretty slick for the stitched and for Tannen's pitiful. Minor help to one of the beckoner's abilities.
  23. Should be interesting to see all the options and variety 10T provides. Have not gotten any of my gencon goodies on the table, but I want to try Lynch as a 10T crew just to add Yamaziko. Ten Thunders Crew - 35 - Scrap Jakob Lynch -- 5 Pool Hungering Darkness [0ss] Beckoner [5ss] Beckoner [5ss] Mr. Tannen [6ss] Stitched Together [5ss] Stitched Together [5ss] Yamaziko [6ss]
  24. Don't watch any after Bloodlines either. 1, 2, and Bloodlines and you're good.
  25. Its definitely a matter of perception. Loosing control, being unable to take the action you want, is seen as a negative. Players want to play. They want to be in control of their actions. A directed negative/penalty effect is simply perceived as less enjoyable than your opponent getting a positive/beneficial effect even if their severity is actually equal. I loose 1 pt vs my opponent gaining 1 pt. Same effective change on the state of the game, different perceived impact. Its can be fun to give out penalties, but not so much to be on the receiving end.
