  1. Have a trait like: Likes the Sound of His Own Voice: this minion can be hired by any Master and if a Henchman is acting as a Master, they, too, may take that minion. Comes Cheap will keep it the same price for everyone.
  2. That is not true at all. The only time you eyeball it in combat is when you have no other choice. Rangefinding devices and techniques are always used when available and not using them could cost you your life. Also, rangefinders have been around since the 1700's so it would fit the fluff, too. Maybe have it where you can hire a 1 SS merc (so all factions can take him or her) who is a mathematician that allows you to pre-measure that way those who do not pre-measure get a SS advantage out of it. Also, it would be cool to have a mathematician as a minion.
  3. +1 Exactly. The rules of the game are fine, it is the fact you have to buy the latest minions in the new book in order to fix the balance problem of the last book instead of fixing the balance issue of the last book by fixing the minions of the last book. If I get 25-35 SS to pick my crew and I have to spend 15 - 20 SS from Book 2 & 3 just to keep the scrap even, that leaves me little to play with Book 1. That is not balance, that is power creep and it leaves older models collecting dust and it makes responsible consumers question buying other minions because why buy if there is a good chance the minions today will be obsolete by the next book?
  4. It is not the responsibility of the player to balance, it is the designers. Just by looking at the card of a Book 1 Master and then looking at the card of a Book 2 Master you can see a balance issue. I do not think the font could get smaller on Hamlin's card. I also fail to see how playtesters missed the problem with LCB and Hamlin, among other issues. I don't think they did, I think the developers pushed it through as is because like all sequals and sophmore attempts, it has to be bigger and badder than the last. It is about sales and getting you to buy the next bigger, badder thing. They knew some people would get it because it looked cool but there would be more people buying if some thought they would have the advantage in games. The Factions are not balanced if you have to add Von Schill or buy the latest Master or minion to compete with the other latest Masters and minions. The game IS about choices, but the company forces those choices by what they distribute. Do I want a cool looking crew that makes sense to me and fits my ideal fanatsy crew or do I want a decent chance to win against the lastest and greatest? That is a question you should not have to ask. Sometimes we have to tell the companies that sales tatics are getting in the way of the game and they are in this case. Also, I agree with mpangelu on MERCS...... never played Necromunda but I heard great things about it; I am sorry to hear it is retired.
  5. Yes, yes, yes. Scales of Justice and Watcher are great additions. Guild hounds are also great choices. They allow you to keep up with activations and they are great for getting those Interacts done quickly.
  6. I am equally in love with Lady Justice and Sonnia, but after a Wp dual, my vote went to Lady Justice. Guild will always be the best! (Some growing love for Ressers........and evil dolls)
  7. First Blood is a great first choice. Second choice varies. I do like Thwart: you either know what they are doing or you get VP for being in the dark. It is the Insurance Scheme. Extermination and Stake a Claim are also solid choices for the Viks.
  8. Molly, Molly, Molly! Seamus tags along sometimes and that is OK with her.
  9. I agree. That is why I think his cost is a little high. If he could take a wound for an extra Wk or some kind of movement spell that could pair well with Furious Casting, he would be worth 7.
  10. Wow, this was harder to do than I thought. Guild is currently my favorite faction (my girlfriend just bought me an unknown Resser and some blisters so this may change by next month...........and Ten Thunders come thereafter) but I am hard-pressed to pick 10 solid favorites. Here they are........ 1. Watcher - Fast and Significant, not to mention getting that Black Joker out of the game countless times. Card manipulation wins games. 2. Guild Hounds - Dogs just make the game better. We need more dogs in the Guild. We need a Kennel Master who takes different breeds to battle. Can we say Terriers to take care of the Hamelin problem. 3. Witchling Stalkers - Brutal with the Runed Blade and then dies gloriously in a blaze of....... glory? I never play a game without one. 4. Francisco Ortega - Santiago who? 5 SS with a Cb of 5:ranged and 7:melee and a better defense and Wk/Cg than Santiago. Add Duelist and Menace, what is not to love. Dependable every game. 5. Samael - Another guy with no love. True, he has a huge bulls-eye on himself the entire game, but he takes the heat off the Master and with a damage output of 5/6/7 with a Cb of 6 is great. "oh, only weak damage?........ummm, that is 5, thank you." Don't forget Ricochet either. 6. Guild Austringer - Great Range and Cb with ability to ignore cover AND LoS. Really great for 5 SS. 7. Death Marshal - Not much love for him, but for 4 SS, you get a solid soilder. 5 Cb and Critical Strike on both weapons, HTW1, Intractable, STD, and Finish the Job. He is not flashy, but he gets results. Ressers will hate him. 8. Exorcist - Would be higher on the list if it was not for the SS cost and the Wk/Cg. I am thinking he needs some fixing, but still very, very good in a crew vs. Spirits. 9. Lawyer - Cost is an issue (See above) but if you can get him in there, Closing Argument can turn the tide, as can Prosecute.........and Censure. Just getting him in there and alive long enough to cast them is a problem. Big gamble for 7 SS. 10. Brutal Effigy - 4 SS healer that can shoot and stab better than some regular minions.
  11. Pre-measure should be allowed. Who wants to win a game because the opponent wasted AP on failed range tests throughout the game? I want to win because I used my models in the best possible way and I had the best approach to my strategy. I like modular terrain because the 1' x 1' squares give a little pre-measure as do TerraClips. I am all for levelling the playing field in this respect.
  12. Stick to your technique. Practice will give you a more steady brush for the details you wish to add to really "finish" your work, but for your first painted model, you have an awesome dark figure. You captured the mood perfectly. Keep it up and develop your own way.
  13. Cool sculpts but only worth 2 SS as they are. I second the sentiment of Watcher over Latigo. I am all about fluff and the Latigo would have been great for Perdita but I, like many on here, use 3-4 SS minions for grabbing VP. They could have made them Significant when 8 inches from a family member or have them use an AP to be Significant that turn or something. Now, they are just cannon fodder. Again, cool sculpts and a great idea they buld on later with other Perdita-themed minions, but these are a once-in-a-blue-moon choice.
  14. That looks like an awesome purchase list.
  15. I agree that Bad Juju is too expensive for what you get, but the Silurid are too great not to have. they are a little boring, yes, but they are amazing for Interacts: not something I take every time, but an excellent tool to have in the belt. Also, Bad Juju is fun to paint and is a good model to use when you are playing someone new - it gives them a really big target to aim for........ that they can't miss. ---------- Post added at 05:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:06 PM ---------- Also, since Collodi and Zoraida are the bulk of your purchase, why not pass on Lilith and get the four effigies, Spawn Mother, Weaver Widow, or even Pandora's box instead? Swamp, doll, and scary kids fit better with Zoraida. I say the four effigies instead of Lilith. They are great and can be used with Collodi, too. ---------- Post added at 05:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:16 PM ---------- Also, since Collodi and Zoraida are the bulk of your purchase, why not pass on Lilith and get the four effigies, Spawn Mother, Weaver Widow, or even Pandora's box instead? 16. No one person can speak for an entire gender, race, or sexual orientation. Any woman who does not play, play other games, or play casually (like my girlfriend) will not come onto these forums. The people on this forum or any forum are the choir and the preaching that goes on convinces only the convinced. The doubters and the haters are not here or not here for long. I am not saying this is a bad thread, I actually think this is bringing up something that has bothered many people, myself included. I am just wondering if we are asking the right question(s) and I am not sure if anything will come of this other than some saying they take issue and others trying to dismiss it.........but when has that ever stopped me? It seems no one is questioning that the game utilizies stereo-types that permeate this genre so then the question that comes to mind is: just because everyone else has done it and continues to do it, is that acceptable? Some will say yes and others will say no. The other questions that come to mind after reading this thread are: Is it possible to have great characters without resorting to cliches and stereo-types? Will more gamers come to Malifaux with the choice of realistic and/or cake? I say the answer is yes to both of those and is also the ethical thing to do. It has nothing to do with whether or not I am the offended member, it has more to do with seeing something crude and questioning its necessity.
  17. Why not Molly's box? I would say the Sculpt 1 and 2 of the Canines will be enough to start. Crooked Men and The Hanged are solid choices- very, very useful. I have only played Resser a few times but the Crooked Men were just amazing with the Belles and the fact that they are both low-SS minions is even better.
  18. I am on Victoria's wagon for the attraction aspect, but also I keep in mind this not a sex game. Morella is correct with the idea that there should be alternate sculpts ( please, please do new sculpts of the Nurses) that are less cheese/beefcake (or even MORE cheese/beefcake if the first sculpt was tame.\, like Sonnia) on the second go-round. I love, LOVE the alt-sculpt for Rasputina and she is the reason I am even considering Arcanists again, but I know some would buy Sonnia and her crew if she was naked and only covered in explicit areas by licking flames........... hmmmmm....... I might even buy that.
  19. +1 ---------- Post added at 01:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ---------- Two words: Uncontrolled Crying. The Ressers do not have a Female lead (1 Master, 1 Henchwoman) that does not have it. The women that have seen this game's depiction of women, Size D or larger breasts, bikini tops on combat-intensive figures and Nurses (need I continue with that one?), have called it juvenile. The problem with most miniature games is they are stuck in junior high or high school. A woman who is engaged in combat wearing a chain mail bra may be cool and sexy in high school when you are drawing a picture or playing some game and not really thinking....... as an adult, I would hope most people's brains have further developed to stop for a moment and see that there are many things wrong with that situation. Psychologically, why did she choose that outfit? Did someone force her to wear that? Is there a combat advantage to that? Is it a unform? Who designed the uniforms? What kind of person wears that comfortably or efficiently? Would that outfit stay on for long with her swinging and jumping with her size D breasts(or larger)? Why is she still wearing it if it hinders her? I can suspend disbelief if there is a good enough rationale or explanation used but you can't explain away physics or common sense without reverting to some wet fantasy where it all makes sense. Fantasy, good fantasy, still has rules and still has a basis in the natural world. If breasts do not move nor get in the way when pushed up in Malifaux, we need the fluff that says so. Never gets hotter than 80 and never colder than 70? We need the fluff to say that or that skin does not burn in the sun nor frostbitten in the cold. Exposed skin not a problem in knife or sword fight? We need the fluff to explain why in Malifaux this is the case ( because that is not the case on Earth). Cheesecake for the sake of cheesecake is a bit sad, like an old guy at a club.
  20. Death Marshal hits Bad JuJu with HTW2 and gets the Red Joker he will do at least 8 damage and up to 11 damage - AND it is a kill at 12 Dg if the attack flip had a Ram in it. So, yeah, I agree with Orboros that it kinda sucks when it happens, but when doesn't it suck to get hit? Me flipping an ace and them flipping a 13 sucks, but that doesn't mean we eliminate aces and 13. I am with the camp that wants to buffer HTW. I just wanted to clarify what Orboros was saying and show he is correct in that respect without you thinking he meant that a totem could destroy a 10 point model with a Red Joker........... I hope he did not think that.
